nbo10 - 2006-01-24 5:07 PM Why do you think your right to run around is more important than the home owners right to peace and quite? The home owners are paying property tax to live there, I highly doubt that any fee by the park could compare to the tax rates. I highly doubt the bill is being passed beacuse they don't want people to exercise. No, the correct analogy would be to buy a house on the beach and then everytime a beachgoer would walk by they would take a shovel of sand and throw it into you living room. The athletic sport isn't the problem it's the crowds and behavior of the crowds. |

Giver ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Yeah I don't think so. Beachgoers throwing sand on your property is mallicious. A soccer game with parents cheering for thier kids isn't.

I highly doubt the bill is being passed beacuse they don't want people to exercise. What about muzzling the pelicans? Are you saying that crowds are running into peoples living rooms and muddying up there carpets? Really, the issue is potential noise pollution, key on potential. I grew up a soccer kid and practices, conducted primarily during the week, are generally minimally invasive from a reasonable noise pollution standpoint. And why exactly would Sundays be taboo? Adult softball doesnt generally have a bunch of dudes doing cheers for each other. Are there problems? Sure, but deal with them as they come up instead of painting broad strokes at all facilities in the area. Parks are a key component to a communities quality of life. I am sorry but it pisses me off when folks try and take a fire hose to a matchstick. Common courtesy and common sense really seem to be taking a vacation in this day in age where folks want to roll out their lawyer everytime something irritates them. In the situation with our kickball league/field issue here, they were going to pull the plug on us completely at a park in the central city where houses are directly adjacent to the park due to noise based on complaints from one homeowner. It went as far as the aldermanic level where our participants in the district, who pay taxes for the field, showed the benefits of having people in the area being able to use the park, previously a ghost town at night and haven for bums/underage drinkers. In the end, we compromised and cut an hour off our time at the field. That is all it take. If they arent going to use the parks, then raze em, sell em for homes right next to these folks where others are looking in their windows and their kids are playing outside anyway. Right now most parks are public property. Roads are public property, etc, etc. The noise pollution that comes with it should be mitigated under reasonable terms that dont override the publics use of the amenity just so someone can drink a lemonade on their porch at 6:05 to watch a large, quiet parcel of unused land. |

This could easily spill over into the neighbors koi pond, or something like that. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I have a soccer field that they have concerts in on the weekends, a college football stadium, and a drive in all with in walking distance. I don't bother driving when the football game lets out. I must watch for drunks when the saturday concert starts. I can sit on my deck and listen to movies all summer but I can't see the screen. Some of the neighboors tried to get the drive in closed but I make sure I go to support it and buy lots of junk food when I am thier. I think those people are nuts. I love the drive in and its been there since the sixties long before the cry babies in the condo's. The stadium is loud, bright, up late and traffic gets nuts. But on the bright side the communist dog police can't give you a ticket for walking your dog off a leash around the stadium but they hide in all the city parks. The soccer field also has a 1/4 mile track that I use alot. In conclusion one would have to say that fat lazy people that do nothing would only look at the down side. That maybe why they are depressed and complain about every thing. They should join BT and we could watch their spirit blossum. Edited by blessteve 2006-01-25 5:59 PM |
