YAY!!!  That's so great!  I'm happy for you.

You will ease right in before you know it.  The progress will really start coming fast.

 Congrats and good luck!

Congrats on a good first outing!

The pay as you go thing is great to start, but don't do it for more than a month at most. For one, it is likely much cheaper to pay monthly/quarterly/whateverly, but also there is a HUGE mental difference between having to scrounge around for change to pay for your swim and you really just don't feel like swimming today and it is all such a hassle and I'll just scrap it this once...and you've already plunked down a BIG chunk of change and dammit you are going to get every penny's worth, even if you don't much feel like going right this minute you know it is the best in the end.

your going to love it...once the coach gets to know you and watch your stroke for awhile they will then start to work with you on making it better...I have swam with three different masters groups and never once felt out of place...they all greeted me like I had been swimming with them for years...

As for the hard core...yep...some of them are...but if you watch close all the lanes will do a seperate workout based on how fast that group is...if lane 1 is the fastest and 10 is the slowest the yardage will probably be something like 3500 for lane 1 down to like 1200 for lane 10...they would never make you try to swim 3500 yards in an hour like lane 1 is doing...

you will have a blast...oh and I was a total newbie and a guest of a member...actually swam at his club out in California twice while on vacation...instructor had me swimming with an 80 year old woman who blew my socks off...but the instructor also spent alot of time with me once her other lanes were swimming their long sets...

as for the person above that mentioned that the coach was never there...well you need to report them to USMS...the USMS regs specify that a certified masters group MUST have a coach on deck at all times when there are masters swimmers in the water at a scheduled masters swim...

My experience is different. I swam with a masters team years ago and we were all in awe of people who were in their 40's and 50's who literally had never swam before. They were so motivated and many went on to excel in their age group. If you take your swimming seriously, people will take you seriously regardless of your ability.
