 Assuming Grape = 0, Orange = 1 and Apple = 2 then:

 Arithmetic mean is an orange and a half which gets rounded up to an apple.

It seems to me that the average of orange and apple = OSAGE. How do I figure? It's used interchangably in the Wikipeda article:

The Osage orange (sometimes hyphenated) or Osage apple is an ornamental plant in the mulberry family Moraceae. It is also locally known as mock orange, "wild orange", hedge-apple, horse-apple, hedge ball, bois d'arc, bodark (or bowdark mainly in Oklahoma and Texas), bodart (in northwest Louisiana), bodock (mainly in Tennessee and Alabama), and bow wood.
