It's clicking! And I don't just mean the sound of the shoes.  Very not punny.  But it seems I can get unclipped on the upstroke.  I am doing it with one foot and a sneaker on the other.  I'm gonna switch, so I can be ambipedal. Then I actually have to put both on at the same time.  I'm off for a ride now...with sneakers.  I have done enough falling in the streets on NYC.  My legs are polka dotted with bruises.

It's just practice.  As you brake you'll learn when you're about to come to a full stop and it's time to lean to the side and put your foot on the ground.

You can unclip your foot whenever you'd like up.  Wether it's at 12 or 6 o'clock.  It's all what you're comfortable with.  And if you want to unclip one foot and keep pedaling with the other, do it.

you'll probably fall down a few times like I have too those are fun. Especially in the public so becareful at stop signs and red lights prepare mentally and physically to come out of the pedals early.

So if you unclip on the bottom, how do you get off the saddle?  Thats what I can't coordinate.

Anyway, I seem to have gotten the knack for unclipping at the top.  I took to the streets today with just 1 shoe.  I'm sure I looked freakish, but who cares. I rode uptown on the bike path to my bike shop.  There were lots of pedestrians crossing todya, so many opportunities to unclip.  Then this afternoon I even biked crosstownon the streets of Manhattan to my yoga class, then to a date ;-)

Next...2 shoes. eeek. back to the hallway first.

So you still end up with the unclipped foot at the top.  I have seen people unclip the low foot and put it directly on the ground, so the up foot is already in position to restart. huh?

If you mean you have the Speedplay Light Actions it is a ton easier to clip out of those at the bottom.  For those of you who haven't had them they have 15 degrees of float which puts a lot of stress on the knees when you try to clip out in the up position.  I had them last year.

If you don't have a lot of hills to climb the Light Actions are good pedals.  Myself I've switched to the Look KEO

I agree that unclipping at the bottom is easiest.  I guess I can try unclipping at the bottom and then rotating my foot around.  I am hoping to ride today, but may get sabotaged by rain.  Is it unsafe to ride in rain? I don't mind getting wet.

Actually, the stupidest question ever is, "How do you replace the cup holder on the computer?"

Riding in the rain is quite a bit more hazardous than in the dry.  Visibility is down so you are more vulnerable not to be seen by drivers.  Things like painted stripes and metal plates can be very slick.   If you slide even a little bit sideways, you will go down.  Road bikes are just like that.  If you don't have fenders, you get this interesting brown stripe down your back from the spray off the rear wheel.  I tend to avoid riding in the rain but if the rain starts while I'm out I just back it down to a low speed and try to be really careful.

Riding in the rain is no big deal... if there are no cars.

I'm amazed how many people unclip at the top. I unclip at the bottom way too early, complete the pedal rotation and pedal one legged if needed.

I wonder how many times I'll fall after reading this.
