Hey I want to change my answer. I said fuel before but just realise dit's also desire. I desire good fuel.

Might sound a bit screwy but someone asked me what may favourite foods are. I answerd things like yoghurt pear dates and almonds (a common breakfast), cottage cheese and grapefruit on fruit toast, salmon orzo salad, stirfry, lamb and couscous, fruit and veges and lots of other things like that. I've been esting these kinds of things every day for a long time now but only just realised they are also my favourites!

So I've found a whole bunch of foods that I absolutely love AND they are the right kind of fuel my body needs.

Ok so I got a bit of self back slapping going on here, but damn it feels good to realise that!

I eat for Desire..but that's my careeer...as a chef, I couldn't imagine not enjoying food and onmly eatig to fuel.  I do follow a good diet and eat as healthy as possible, but sometimes I want my shimp etoufee..I only eat once a week a meal that is not going ot aid my training, ut when I plan/make meals  I try and balance taste and fuel so I get the best of both worlds

Being a compulsive over eater, I try to eat for fuel, but if I slip it is for desire and emotional satisfaction.

Both.

I forget to eat, so have to eat for fuel or I crash.  But...I have a rule:

If it doesn't taste great, it doesn't go in my mouth!

I'll say both.  I'm pretty habitual about my eating during the week while training; I stick to the same staples that I know I like and that do the job in the fuel department.  But I also train so that if I want ice cream after dinner, I'm having some daggum ice cream!  I think I have a pretty even balance of both fueling and enjoyment.

Food is fuel and nothing else. If you don't view it that way it will hurt you.

x2

Tom, good to have your knowledge base on BT as well now.

But remember fuel can taste great too. Find the types of fuel that you love to eat rather than just the things you think you should eat. Add some herbs to that plain Tuna, choose fresh in season local organic fruits and veges, find a really good baker who makes stunning wholegrain bread, go to a cooking class, get cook books from the library, share recipies here on BT!

Well...coming from an obese family background, I tend to lean towards eating to fuel my workouts. But I will occasionally allow myself some "desire" eating, at times. But I'm a fairly regimented person...my breakfast has pretty much stayed the same for the past 3 years - 8oz Weight Watchers Yogurt w/tsp of ground flaxseed and 2 tsp of Kashi Nuggets cereal, 1 slice of whole grain toast w/natural PB, and 12 (yes I actually count them) frosted bite-size mini-wheats. Lunch varies, depending on what I'm in the mood for and how much time I have. Normally it's either a 1/2 turkey sandwich, a bowl of oatmeal, a salad, a baked potato w/cottage cheese, or some scrambled eggs. My morning snack is usually 12 almonds, a small handful of walnuts, and a small handful of dried cranberries...or some pretzels and another yogurt. I work evenings, so dinner/evening snack is a packed meal...usually a frozen Lean Cuisine or Healthy Choice meal, an Activia yogurt, an apple or banana, and a low-fat cheese stick. Sometimes I'll substitute a salad or a bowl of cold cereal, if I'm in the mood for something lighter. Not much variety, I know...but it works for me. On the weekends, I tend to be a little less strict...plus I actually have to cook a meal or two for my hubby, so that changes things up a bit.

I have a strong desire to desire food purely for fuel and sustenance, but in reality, I eat for pleasure and I don't seem to find healthy food to be pleasurable!  But I am working on it!

I enjoy eating too much. Pleasure first then fuel.

I used to eat what I wanted as much as I wanted when I wanted...that is what made me into a lazy 298lb couch potato.

These days I am more deliberate when I eat. I eat had been eating with a keen eye on my caloric intake...especially when I was training heavy days. For the last few weeks I haven't been training as hard (no races) so I have been experimenting with Ori Hofmekler's plan (the Warrior Diet) Easy eating all day with the bulk of your intake later in the day.

The plan makes good sense...assuming you're eating a healthy diet to begin with. I found I had to read the entire book to really get it.

BTW I've lost 70lbs...by becoming active and eating healthy.
