  • Obsidian Stout from Deschutes Brewery (has to be on tap, not bottled)

Nitro Obsidian Stout
Smooth as glass and black as the volcanic rock for which it was named. Rich, roasted and balanced.  Obsidian Stout is very approachable.

If you've never had it, I'd recomend trying Thai Iced Tea.   Most Thai restaurants have it, but fair warning, it's very filling.

Oh, sooooooo good. There was a take-out Thai place around the corner from my college and apartment in Boston where I first discovered this delicious substance. It is loaded with sugar and cream, but oh so tasty...

-Absinthe (the real stuff made from wormwood, not this fake stuff they have now)

As a bartender, I have always wondered what the heck people were talking about when they said that certain absinthe isn't real. Anything that is labeled absinthe IS absinthe, unless you're getting it from your cousin Boris who met a guy, who knew this other guy who swears it's real. The levels of thujone in absinthe have always been and will always be very low and anyone claiming to get any psychedelic effects from it is either has drank enough of it to potentially kill themselves or they are very drunk.

Anyway, my wish list...:

1. 1955 Penfold's Grange (being a hair more realistic, the 2001 vintage would be just dandy)
2. More of the absurdly decadent hot chocolate from...erm...Hot Chocolate in Chicago (if you live nearby, GO!)
3. A flight of Dogfish Head's crazy stuff...World Wide Stout, 120 Minute IPA, Raison D'extra, etc.
4. Just one freaking sip of a Macallan 25 year. Please?!
5. Bundaberg ginger beer...had it once and now I can't find it anywhere.
