Subject: RE: Anyone else get a nice compliment today?Unfortunately, mainly what I got today was a lot of insincere flattery from a guy who was trying to sell me on his cycling class.
"Wow, I'm really proud of you for getting up and doing this!" (Three times he said this. Yes, and I got up to ride with you on Friday morning too, when you didn't show up. Did you hear that part? )
"How are you doing? FINE? Wow, I'm really glad you're fine! If you're doing 'fine' that's great!" (We had been riding for maybe 15 minutes. Um, I've been training for a year. )
Note that this was all before he dropped me, but not before he explained that he wasn't REALLY dropping me because that wouldn't be nice when he had invited me on the ride, that what he was actually doing was pointing me back toward the park so I could practice more on my own. (Thanks, but I live in this neighborhood. In fact, I actually bike here. I know where the park is already. )
Compliments are great. But insincere compliments, patronizing hooey, that's worse than nothing at all. Sorry for venting.
