The mosh pit style start was the only reason I was signed up for this race (practicing the mass swim start.

I think there will still be plenty of thrashing, the Olympic has only three waves:

Olympic Tri Wave Chart - 8:50am Start

Wave 1 - Elites, all juniors (19 and under), men and women 20-34, men 60+, women 55+ Red
Wave 2
- Men 35-49, all swim bike Royal Blue
Wave 3 - Men 50-59, women 35-54, all relays Green

Im in for the Olympic Du on Sunday, rode the course yesterday...roads are pretty rough for the first 6-8km, then smooths out for the middle, and vibrates the hell out of you just in time for the 2nd run

Good luck all!

I took a ride up to the lake to check out the sprint course. As the site says Sideroad 20 isn't in good shape. Chunks of pavement are missing where road meets gravel along the edges in both directions and on the way out heading east there's half a dozen small potholes in the middle of the lane.

The rest of the course is as enjoyable as ever

I am in for the olympic distance on sunday(first tri of the year). I was hoping that they would have done something with the roads since last year but what can you do? Undecided  I'm glad i atleast have a new bike seat from last year.

I'm coming from Georgetown.  Anyone know if it's easier to get there via backroads, or 401 to 6 north?  I've only been through Guelph a few times and I'm not familiar with the streets or the conservation area.  Thanks.

Follow hwy 7 right into guelph then head north on Victoria. Follow that to Conservation Rd ( I think that's what it's called) , turn right and that goes to the park. I think that's the easiest way there.

Or Google maps.

I was surprised about the amount of congestion on the bike course for the Sprint.  3-4 wide on some parts of the bike course, made more difficult but edge road surface in some places.

And of course the fact that some people were blatantly drafting.

the actual roads were not as bad as people said (or I was just really prepared for th worst) but I agree the congestion on the bike was terrible! it took my 2-3km to get up to pace because I kept running into groups.  I was in wave 2, so I"m sure it just got worse!  OVerall a great race though

I was in the third wave of the Sprint and also found the congestion quite bad.

Not sure why they had the Sprint Du run virtually at the same time - it might have helped traffic if the Du started 10 minutes before the Tri and not 10 mintues after.

But overall the course was in better condition that I was expecting.  Not great, but I only noticed a few potholes.

Overall I thought it was a great race.

This being my first (Sprint) Tri, I thought the bike was OK. I didn't think of it as congestion, just lots of people to pass. Maybe now that I accustomed to this much congestion, my next tri will seem wide-open.(lol). Overall, it was a great experience. Very well organized. Everyone was very friendly. Great to be with 600 other people who have been training for the same thing.

The roads were as i remember. I forgot about the pot holes in the intersection though and ended having to ride in the gravel because i took the corner too wide with too much speed. oops. But whichever it still ended up being my best race ever in the swim, bike and run.

There was little to no congestion in the olympic distance bike ride. I liked how they made the swim one lap with 3 waves. It seemed to work nicer then last year.
