Event Horizon.

Too soon?

Prly... I was thinking 80's or early 90's at the latest.A more book accurate version of Running Man? Lost Boys?

I think it's been established with Spiderman now that you only have to wait 10 years. I vote Robocop. I loved that movie as a kid.

It's coming...filming starts in September.  How I know?  I local company that supplies cars for movies had an article in the paper today indicating so.  they also supplied the cars for the latest Total Recall.

Plus there's this: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1234721/

Trading Places.

Easy Rider.

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.

The Shining (and DO NOT kill off Mr Holleran!).

I was about to post these two!  Agreed.

ummm, a labyrinth remake would be amazing.

Who could play David Bowie's role though?

Lady Gaga - she is essentially the female version of a glam-rock style. Looks, at any rate.

I wonder if she can act?  Madonna could play an older creepy person as well as act and sing but I think Gaga would be a better fit.

She seemed remarkably comfortable on a couple sketches she did for SNL.  Very natural.

There is already a remake of The Shining, not as creepy as the first but not exactly horrible either.

Nope, there isn't.  This is movie remakes into movies (big screen) - not crappy made for tv stuff.

Oh well, thanks for clearing that up, I was under the impression that most remakes were crappy, so to put them into two categories is important.

The thing is, if there is a movie that was so memorable to us that we can name it, it probably doesn't need to be remade.

Can anyone name a remake that truly improved on the original (I'm not talking about movies like "Star Trek" or "Casino Royale", which really weren't remakes but complete reboots)?

Is there a movie that basically stuck to the same basic plot as the original but did it better? I'm sure there must be one or two but I can't think of any.

I am probably going to get banned from the site for this but now that I think about it,  the remake of Willi Wonka and the Chocolate factory was brilliant. I didn't care for the original but I actually really like the remake with Johnny Depp who is a wonderfully talented character actor.

Yeah, we're gonna have to go ahead and strenuously disagree on this one.

I like Johnny Depp. I like Tim Burton. I LOVE "Ed Wood" (one of my Top 50 movies of all time). But together those guys have created two of the worst remakes of all time in "Planet of the Apes" and "Willy Wonka". So bad I wish I could un-see them because both movies were so bad they even tarnished my memories of the originals.

IMO, of course.

How about Weird Science? Or License to Drive? Silent Running (I know, before the 80's)?

No NO NOOOO, do NOT mess with Weird Science. This is Sacrilege, I sob for the very fear of them touching that fantastic wonderful awesomeness called Weird Science.

I would like to see a remake of Titanic, you know one with accurate dress, social status and perhaps something that actually resembled what happened that night...

Weird Science is one of my favorite 80's movies.

Back when Bill Paxton could act.

Kido - 2012-08-01 7:35 PM I figured to try to start the least controversial thread I could think of (even though I'm sure someone will find a way to twist it). With all the remakes going on, is there one you would like to see? For some odd reason, I thought a new and maybe darker version of Gremlins? Couldn't be worse than a Dirty Dancing, Fright Night, or Total Recall remake.

Don't forget Footloose.  Worst remake I've ever seen.  Still blame the wife for making me see that one.

I agree Footloose was really bad.  The dancing was good but the acting was terrible and it was scene for scene the original.  I expected them to take the concept and make a new movie not Hangover 2.
