Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Boulder (formerly 5430) : Official ThreadThanks for the info, extreme veteran! I guess I'll use my trail shoes for the run....and bring my wetsuit for the swim! I have been doing some heat training here in vegas, but I doubt it'll be 105 degrees by noon there in boulder! Just some tips for anyone interested - do a small portion of your workouts in heat/high altitude, just to get your body somewhat conditioned. But those 2 factors - heat and altittude - put alot of stress on a body that is already stressed from training volume. the majority of your workouts should be at cooler temps/lower elevations so you can get the most out of your workouts (in regards to speed/wattages/etc )...case in point - I did a brick run yesterday in 103 degrees, at noon, and could not keep my HR down in my aerobic zone AND maintain my normal, usual pace for that zone...my pace was about 2 minutes slower just to keep my HR below my anerobic threshold...just my 2 cents worth! |
