I am looking for a decent beginner training plan a "just to finish plan" I can do the distances individually.  Does anyone know of something I can look at? I have seen the one here.

I am signed up and doing it one way or the other but I need a plan....   SOON!!Tongue out

Anyone two need a third person to sign up for the 3 for the price of 2 deal? Or two people who still need to register?

I did my first using this plan http://www.trifuel.com/triathlon/ironman-workouts/),   I could also do the distances individually, it worked for me.  For my next IM's  I really didn't have a plan.

I'm primarily a marathoner/ultramarathoner so I simply do my ultra training and swim a few times a week. Once it gets warmer out I will start biking once or twice a week.

Last month I had some ITBS issues from too many counterclockwise laps around our Wellness Center's track so had to take a few weeks off from cycling and running. I started over at 12 mile weeks and am progressing at about 10% from there. Its tough but better that then get hurt again. If you are interested you can check my progress in my link below.

I'm in this year.  Race director took pity on me from my crash last year and generously offered me an entry this year.  Only tricky thing for me is that this race is a week after IMLP, so I guess I'm just doing this one for fun.

Well, I am still on the fence for this one.  Ever since IMAZ I feel sore feet/ankles when I wake in the morning.  It goes away once I start running or riding but, I feel it is a sign that something is just not right.  I am going to take it easy for a couple of weeks and see how I am doing.  Vineman's price for admission goes up April 1, so I better make up my mind by then.

Hope you all are doing well on this early training.

I am dragging the family over from Sydney (Aus) for a vacation with an Ironman thrown in. We are hiring a RV and plan on camping out near the race for a few days before and after. Has anyone got any tips of which van park to stay in that is close to the race.

How tough is the ride and run courses. I have heard the heat can wipe you out.

Thanks fro down under.

can't help you with the TV question.

Check the past race reports to get a good feel for the course.  I'll repost the pictures of the course I put in last year's race thread.

Relative to most IM distance races, I think the bike course is easier than most.  There are only 2 climbs, but there are rolling hills.  2 loops.  The run course has some hills (3 loops if I recall correctly), but the heat will likely be in the 90s, so yes, you'll likely want to be comfortable with running when it's hot.

Course overview from when I rode it a couple years ago (that's poweredbyfear (in blue) and DW in the pictures).  I believe the course has changed slightly around the high school, but otherwise the same.

We didn't do the tail section at the start from Guerneville (T1) to Westside, so here's a picture of what you'll see on Westside

These are along Dry Creek

The small climb up Canyon

After the downhill, the turn into Geyserville

Along 128

On Chalk Hill Rd.

Faught or Shiloh Rd.

Old Redwood Highway

At the end of the course, you'll roll up to Windsor High School.   You'll enter on the south end so you won't pass the school as shown below, but you will if you do the full vineman.

And on the full vineman course, you'll also go through this section to reconnect the loop

Yeah for sure, I could ride on those roads for 112 miles

I have my first race coming up in 7 weeks. My local marathon which I hope to BQ at. My mileage has been VERY low and slow this year since in Jan my IT band started acting up and I have taken about a month nearly completely off, and have yet to even reach 200 miles this year. Needless to say I'm a bit worried about the race. Granted I was doing 90 minute 13.1 mile runs up on the track in Jan (which is why my IT band hurts, too much counterclockwise running on the track) and my McMillian calculator puts me at the right speed from a 5k test I did last week. I am only concerned I do not have the miles under my legs lately to pull it off.

I was told to look into vacation rentals compared to hotels. However i have never seen these before so am not really sure what to look for. My group may get a hotel room for two nights and maybe camp for one night.

So I will admit I did not read all the posts in this forum....but I love the photos....from what I can tell its a "flat" course... right? My first IM was B2B and the course is as flat as flat can be! but a lot of headwind on the way in...

My hubby and I are looking to do Vineman this year...I am in if its relatively flat

I'd say it's an easy bike course.  There only 2 climbs per loop.  Elevation profile below is deceiving because you can't read the scale.  I think it's maybe a 300-400ft. climb.  There are some mild rollers throughout the course (so it's not pancake flat), but overall, i'd call it an easy IM distance bike course.

I'm sure you'll find some takers.  You can try asking at some of our local tri clubs since there are usually many other locals registering that way.

I did Vineman as my first IM and it's a good one to do as your first.  Just be prepared for heat!

I'm assuming I'll be slow enough that most of the direct sun/heat will be while I'm on the bike. I'm training in CO and we get some pretty hot days, but not usually until later in the summer. I'll try to fit in some long rides/runs mid-day to get prepped for it. Thanks for the heads up.

Any thoughts on where to stay? I was thinking in Windsor to make it easier for my family to be near the T-2 and run course. But that leaves the morning jitters of making it over to Guerneville on time for the start. Do most people stay in Windsor though?

Thanks!

Can anyone tell me if wetsuits ever been banned in the past and how does the bike ride compare to other IM courses (I have done Canada once) in time and effort. I can borrow a disc is it worth using on this course.

Thanks

As far as I know wetsuits have usually been legal at the event. I have been told the bike course is not terribly demanding as well.

A question from me. Where is the best place for my "crew" to hand me a bit of nutrition (couple bottles, few lara bars) for the second lap of the bike since I would rather not take the stuff offered at aid stations.

I'm not doing Vineman, but in general you cannot be handed anything from spectators...you either carry it with you, have it in special needs bags, or take from the course. Not sure if vineman follows USAT rules so make sure you know in advance!
