Wyndam I believe. Not sure if they are taking reservations yet but that would be a good alternate. |

I would not typically wear a wetsuit at IMTX. If it's a typical IMTX (upper 80s/low 90s) you will sweat in the neoprene. It's going to be a long, hot day. There is zero need to start sweating your a$$ off in the water. |

There is zero need to start sweating your a$$ off in the water. Everybody's different. I've done 4 of the 5 IM-TX races and worn the wet suit every time. The year I missed the race was the "cold water" year (2014). I can make the swim okay without the suit, but I'm much more relaxed and confident with the wet suit on. I probably do sweat a little more than I would without it, but I also swim faster with less effort, and my anxiety level is much lower. I'm a slow swimmer, so I don't swim hard enough to generate crazy amounts of heat. My swims have all been in the 1:20 - 1:35 range, and my goal is to always stay smooth and relaxed. My recommendation for slow swimmers (say 1:15 or slower) is to wear the suit. I look at this in the same way as I look at bike technology; I don't need to wear an aero helmet or ride a tri bike, but I'm faster if I do. As far as training goes, train to swim without the suit. Don't count on it, or you may be in for a nasty surprise. |

So today to get going I completed a 15.25 mile run, a short 16 miles on the KK, and a measly mile swim. Felt go good to get the old bod moving. Tomorrow I'll go for three hours on the KK. Biking is my weakest leg. |

Extreme Veteran 479 The Woodlands, TX | Subject: RE: Ironman Texas 2016 - North American Championship : Official Thread Generally it's a slight tailwind going out, headwind coming back (sometimes it can be strong like last year); mostly flat but there ARE a fair amount of rollers (it's deceptive) and coming back the rollers are a bit more challenging and can wear you out; chip seal roads mostly on the second half - this will drive you crazy if you're not used to it; oh and then there's the heat and humidity!! The key is proper pacing and being diligent on your nutrition. Don't go out too fast or you will pay the price coming back. |

Not something I can train for in the Seattle area, lol. Just have to stick to the plan like you say. How about the distance from T1 to the swim start. Do most people walk over or get a ride? |

Do most people stop at special needs on the bike? I was thinking about having my 2nd 3hr bottle of infinit there instead of having to carry it the whole way, and I expect that I'll need to go to the bathroom by then as well. I don't seem to be able to go while riding. LOL What can be expected about sunscreen also? I'm fair complected and will have to reapply. Do they have plenty or do I need to have my own in the bag? Thanks for any input, as I'm sure more questions will come. Stephan |

I have stopped at special needs on both the bike and run during both of my fulls. It helps me to regroup mentally and restock my bike. As far as sunscreen, I don't remember my experience at IMAZ, but at IMFL they have volunteers that are "sunscreens" in the transition areas. I can't remember if they are at SN or not. That said, I'm super fair so I keep some on my bike. |

The preferred "option 3" (Grand Parkway) route was not approved last night. Links for those interested.

The most current speculation seems to be Option #2 which goes all over the place with about 100 intersections, turns, etc. There's a thread on Slowtwitch if you care to follow the amusement there. Also, no update as to whether it will be wetsuit legal ;-) Train on! |
