Expert 1135 Delano, MN | Subject: RE: Dec. Swim Challenge: CAPTAINS ONLY please My missing swimmer has turned up! She was off line for a couple of weeks due to computer problems. What I will do is log her total for the month in for this week so as to not mess up the previous spreadsheets if you guys are willing to agree to that (and are aware that her totals are for several weeks all wrapped into one and there isn't any funny business going on there). Thanks |

Master 2287 Calgary, Alberta | Subject: RE: Dec. Swim Challenge: CAPTAINS ONLY please Sounds fine with me. Being as this is the middle of the month - how's each team doing? Any concerns? We have 1 swimmer who has not logged any workouts at all this month (normally does). I PM'd him yesterday and heard back from him today. He started the month sick and injured from overtraining. Any rule on dropping members? |

Expert 1135 Delano, MN | Subject: RE: Dec. Swim Challenge: CAPTAINS ONLY please My personal take would be it is OK to drop them as long as they quit before they log anything. Illness and injury happens and I'm feeling compassionate today (even though i know there might be soem on my team that wouldn't take that view). |

Stuff happens, a cold and injury are some of the things I mentioned in the beginning and its up to a consensus of the team captains. So far you have 2/5! |

Expert 1135 Delano, MN | Subject: RE: Dec. Swim Challenge: CAPTAINS ONLY please I have a couple of swimmers who have become injured. There is a desire amongst some of the teammates to "donate" overage yardages to them. It would be an incentive to keep those swimming who make thier goal early. What do all you Captians think? |

There is a desire amongst some of the teammates to "donate" overage yardages to them. It would be an incentive to keep those swimming who make thier goal early. What do all you Captians think? I do not have a problem with the team making up the yardage but here is the catch. If the yardage is made up by others in the group then it would be put in a separate category which would not allow them to be at 100%. By that I mean, say everyone is 100% except one person on the team and the yardage was made up by the others on the team. You have a (% of goal + % complete + % of overall yardage)/3. What does that do? That would still let the teams that are at 100% across the board win the challenge b/c even if the yardage is made up by the others, the team still cannot be at 100%. They could however move up a place or two. Thoughts? |

Champion 5345 Carlsbad, California | Subject: RE: Dec. Swim Challenge: CAPTAINS ONLY please I also have a swimmer who has requested to be dropped from the challenge. The Pool that he normally works out at has been closed since the beginning of December and the outlook for a fix looks pretty bleak. He has not logged any yardage so the whatever the ruling is above would not apply here. He would just be a straight drop. I hate to see someone go, but things happen. I do not support this. Sure this is a team game but in the end it is about individuals achieving their own goals regardless of the circumstances. All past challenges I have been a part of, this has not been allowed. If someone has achieved their goals already then they totally underestimated the goal. I got injured in last Feb run challenge, then when I was running again I got the flu. People wanted to give me their extra miles but it was nixed as that is not the game. So to keep the favor of past challenges I really have to say no, injury & illness happens in life. I'd like to see more dicussion on this though...

Right now the spreadsheet is not logging "ready" or "NaN" into the averages so dropping the person will not change the results. I still have an issue with the MIA swimmer. Still has not reviewed my PM and no logs so I think it is time to also dump them.

Expert 1135 Delano, MN | Subject: RE: Dec. Swim Challenge: CAPTAINS ONLY please I threw the idea out of "donating" yards mainly since it was brought up by one of my less achomplished swimmers who was very motivated and energized by the challenge and reached thier goal early. They swam more and farther than they thought possible and yes probably underestimated thier goal but they had no idea what was possible. It would be a form of encouragment to them to beable to help some one else out. I am perfectly OK with not doing this as in the other challenges I have been in this hasn't been allowed. I would say that we can drop swimmers if they have no logs for the month (running biking strength included). This might sound a little hard core and I am only proposing a possible line in the sand. I am certianly up for discussion as to how to draw that line. You guys are all doing a great job. Achallenge like this wouldn't work without this kind of record keeping. Job well done! |
