I did manage to get a spot in the resort to stay, I booked in January and got three spots, all taken though. |

Also, how are people's training going?....my 18 week plan turned into a 10 week plan!!!....I have been fairly consistent with fitness and running and in the last month more on the bike and running (did a 40km interval session on the bike on Saturday and a 10 mile run on Sunday), but need to knuckle down and get some good sessions in. My wetsuit (Xterra Vortex 3) arrived last week, so I will get some OWS's in soon, Whonnock Lake is my local lake, but if anyone else can suggest a place close to Maple Ridge that would be appreciated. Is anyone else doing the BMO 1/2 marathon on 1st May?....I'm just about to sign up this week. Enough of my rambling! Cheers Steve

This spring has been cool so hopefully it'll warm up soon. The race is great - I think Outback does a super job of all their races.... I think the lake was around 18-19C at that time. |

| Extreme Veteran 361 Kelowna, BC | Subject: RE: Oliver Half Ironman... Please don't let it be windy on race day. I rode from Penticton to Oliver plus one loop of the bike course and my time sucked. Headwind for 50 km, and I was so bagged by the time we turned around, that I couldn't take full advantage of the tailwind back to Penticton. But the sun has finally arrived in the Okanagan - yay! 18C by the time I got back. |

With the crappy weather, I've not managed an OWS yet, hoping to this weekend (whonnock lake) and will probably ride from Mission to Harrison Mills (90-100km) and back to get my last long ride in. I've never done a HIM before, to the people that have, what is your drink/food strategy for the night before/breakfast/during the race?.......are there bottle exchanges on the bike course? Hope everyone's training is going well and we are all fit and ready in 2 weeks time. Cheers Steve

| 39 | Subject: RE: Oliver Half Ironman... You will go through 4 bottle exchanges stations on the bike course. Last year they had water bottles, gatorade bottles and banana halves. They have one before the hill on black sage which you go through twice and then one on road #7 which you also go through twice. The first one is around 10km into your ride I believe. They also have porta potties at both aid stations plus one as you come off of Black Sage Road and turn onto the main road. Hope this helps!! |

I have a question about the swim - I assume that they will let us off in waves (as there will be 1000+ people doing the event) - How many waves will there be and how do they get the timing right for this? I assume that we already have pre-assigned wave starts and they will start "our clocks" at these times that they let the waves go? I really do need to book some accomodation, yeah I know I have left it a tad late, but its been crazy busy lately.........any suggestions for a single room, as I'm travelling up by myself? Although I think I'm finally over the back and sciatic issues, two years of sporadic training has taken it's toll on my conditioning. Might try for a race at the end of the season....we'll see. |
