I've had quite the spectacular explosion of Mexican Hat flowers this year. Can't eat them, but they're still nice to look at.

I don't think I've ever seen those before......that's pretty cool.

Except, don't you think it's a bit racist to refer to a hat as "Mexican"?   Unfortunately, I find the entire patch of flowers to be offensive.

We had a windfall of morels this year.  Stopped counting after 500 and had several friends over and they picked huge bags full.

Other than that, we've been busy planting bees. Started three new hives.

We had a hen go broody on us so we let do her thing. We marked some eggs and let her sit. I could nt find the eggs tonight and she'd moved to another nesting box. Then I saw this little one pop up.

Hows the bee business treating you? I had two hives, but lost one this winter. It was so cold and so wet. I put my hives in a spot that retained too much water and I think that pushed them to their demise. Lesson learned. I planned to move them this week, but again we had so much rain it wasn't feasible to move them to the new spot I picked for them. So far they're really thriving and I need to inspect the hive in the next two days as I suspect it's time for another hive body.

We're only a couple weeks into it so most everything is going good.  We have one hive we're a little worried about because the queen is falling behind the other two.  No capped brood at all and the other two have quite a bit.  We did spot the queen and she seemed healthy, so who knows.  We're doing another hive inspection tomorrow so hopefully she's kicked it in gear.

This is the first time we've ever done anything with bees, so we're really excited.

congratulations grandpa!

We have 7 chickens in a coop at our city house.  Those buggers lay eggs like crazy.  Fortunately we don't have a rooster.

Nice!  It'll be a few weeks for mine yet.  I'll likely have jalapenos and banana peppers soon though.....and the cucumbers are out of control!

All this rain hasn't been good for farming around here.....but man are we going to have a bumper garden crop this year.

The garden is starting to yield some goodies - 3 Hungarian Hot peppers last night and some garlic scapes.  Potatoes and beans are looking great, squash and tomatoes are looking pretty good, too.

Excellent!  I will have jalapeno, banana, and hungarian peppers at the end of the week......just letting them go a bit longer.  I have some cucumbers that are about 6 inches now, and 1347 green tomatoes.

I remain jealous of the garlic.

You almost had me say, "You win", because, well, BACON, but then I decided fresh, clean (no insecticides or chemicals) veggies, especially tomatoes, are tough to beat. And fresh herbs, I grow them on my porch.  Need basil, oregano, cilantro, dill or parsley?  Thai basil for summer rolls?  Just walk out the door, snip, and bam, done.

Now if we could pair your bacon with my tomatoes, that would be a treat!  Mmmmm, BLTs...

I have basil and rosemary.  Once the tomatoes come in my daughters live on caprese salads.  I use a touch of rosemary anytime I grill or smoke pork. I think it adds a nice flavor.

Tomatoes

Well NM. Video won’t load. Anyway my tomatoes are coming in by the bushel. Blueberries are about to overtake us.

On another note, I bought a sawmill and have been ‘harvesting’ trees. If you have logs you need turned into lumber give me a yell.
