Subject: RE: Hy-Vee Triathlontri-dg - 2008-06-09 8:51 PM what dose every one know abotu the transition... is it bike set up on saterday or just sunday morning 4:40 to 5:45 and is the bike set up designate locations? or free for all OK - I went on a long ride tonight with a friend that works at Hy-Vee corporate. They are currently planning a second route in contingency for the flooding (it's a real mess here, folks). He says that Wednesday is the "first test" and the only decision we will hear on Wednesday is a negative one (that Gray's cannot be used). There is one day of rain called for between now and Saturday (Thursday, I believe), but even if the waters recede, they still have a huge issue with the bacteria in the water. We talked about other swimming venues - but truth be told, there are not a lot of bodies of water that are not affected by this flooding. Easter Lake is very small, and the transition there would be a nightmare - and thy might have to do something about wave sizes (the race is booked solid). Copper creek lake is available, but we got so much rain this weekend, that it might have issues as well. If they use Copper Creek, they would have to chang the course imensely, and they would have to have two seperate transition areas (Copper Creek is on the far Eastern side of town, out by the fairgrounds) Copper Creek is also small, and would probably require two swimming laps (swim once, get out run back to the start and swim again). This guys says that a Du is the worst case scenario, but is still a scenario. I asked him if people would get their money back if it got changed to a Du and he just looked at me. Sorry I don't have better news than that. That being said - nobody in transition until morning of. The last I heard, the bike set-up was by wave. That obviouly may change if the location changes. |
