Alrighty...now that we have all the initial weights let's focus on getting the job done. SOMEONE needs to come up with a good name for us. How about:

Losing to WIN
Winning the fight
Weight Loss Warriors

  • ..okay, I suck at getting a team name. But hopefully that will help you creative folks push a little harder to get us a good name!

  • So, what are you doing today to reach your goals? I'm going to focus on getting enough water - 8 glasses - and counting calories. I'm going to track them using my account on www.sparkpeople.com . There is another great program on www.fitday.com - this one really focuses on the nutrition aspect of what you are eating. I LOVE using fitday but right now I need to focus on something simple - just tracking the calories.

OK ...confession, I ate myself into oblivion last nite. Friends at work had a B-day party for me and I ate EVERYTHING!!!!! I typically have a great diet, but I eat junk at work. I can eat 3 meals and a few healthy snacks on days I dont work....but then I go to work and go wild! I am a nurse and patients/families will always bring candy cookies and assorted BAD foods as "gifts". I cannot seem to control myself. I am hoping that being accountable to TEAM A will make me have more self control. Any suggestions to help are welcome and needed.

I'm the same way on weekends! I'm a stay at home mom so I can pretty much be a good girl (except when it's that time of the month and chocolate becomes my best friend!) but the weekends always mess things up for me.

BTW, I don't know if you have this company where you are but we have this wonderful business called "Edible Arrangements" near us. I just found out about it last week when I received a gift from a friend. It was a whole basket of FRUIT arranged very nicely. Here is a picture of it:

Maybe you should have brochures of this place (or others like it) laying around the office!

I like weight loss warriors!  My eating has been really good lately.  I am the kind of person that once it becomes a habit, I find it easier to stick to.  Since my plan is cutting back on the refined carbs, I have made it a habit to have 2 scrambled eggs for breakfast.  For lunch, Instead of going out for pizza or a fast food sandwich, I make extra dinner and bring leftovers.  Dinners are usually easy, lean meat and a veggie.  Occasionally some brown rice.

It's been almost a week now so it is becomming my normal routine.  Plus, when I weigh in the mornings (I know, I am not supposed to weigh every day, but I do) and see the numbers going down, it motivates me more!

Yeah, I need that motivation, too. I was doing really well weighing myself once/week but I'm starting to see benefits to weighing every day - MOTIVATION!

mav: you celebrated your birthday (happy birthday!) now you can behave. My birthday is on Wednesday, and I told my husband, no cake.

I also have an eat-at-work problem. (and a snack-after-dinner problem too). I am trying to bring healthy snacks and only eat what I bring. if i don't have healthy snacks, i am tempted by the vending machines. boo. except i have trouble figuring out what healthy snacks are that I will want to eat. my current kick is a kashi cereal- a little sweet, but whole grain.

dodgersmom: do you find you're getting enough carbs for your workouts on that diet? sounds healthy to me, but i find i need (or think i need?) more carbs when training hard. actually, training hard seems to make me really hungry, especially swimming, and so it's my excuse for eating a lot. But not this month!

    Go weight loss warriors!

I really don't find it to be a problem since I am not restricting all carbs, just trying to not have any refined ones.  I still get carbs from fruits and veggies.  I have substitited white rice for brown. On short workouts, there is not an issue.  On longer ones, I still supplement with gels and bars.  For example, today wa have an hour zone 1-2 ride.  I will probably have a bananna before leaving.  Over the weekend, on my 2 hr ride I stick with my HIM nutrition plan of a gel every 30 minutes.  Hope that helps

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Do not skip it.  Try making a protien shake if you prefer not to have solid food. I like mixing some vanilla protien powder, frozen fruit ans skim milk in the blender.  Sometimes I add quaker oats and a spoon on peanut butter...very yummy

Thanks, those are good tips. I am trying really hard to eat it even if it is just a piece of fruit. I love eggs but don't always have time to make them.

One of the hardest things for me is eating enough throughout the day, it seems like I get so busy at work and then I get busy at home and by the time I realize it I am starving and havent eaten in 6 hours. I need to start eating 6 small meals a day, so I dont ever get hungry. Isn's it sad, too busy to eat, lol. Thanks for listening Cool

i have found three things that help me get my eggs in the morning that you may like...

    1. frozen omelets with ham and cheese or sausage and cheese.  they take 3 minutes in the microwave and don't taste that bad

    2. a microwavable poached egg device.  takes 1 minute to poach 2 eggs

    3. microwavable frozen egg pattys like they use at mcdonalds.

see a trend??? i like to micro everything, LOL

I get the omelets and frozen egg pattys at my local walmart.  if you like eggs, one of the three may help and they are quick to make

dcrunning diva, i loved your pic. We do get these arrangements, but more often chocalates and junk. I think I will resort to posting a sign that says"please don't feed the nurses"LOL

Happy Bday to you too miche033. My B day is the 28th but my co-workers wanted to surprise me. It was fun, but full of calories.

dogersmom, thanks for the post about breakfast. I try but I'm not always that great. Today I have a long OWS planned , 40 mins. I will eat a good breakfast.

I am doing my first oly this weekend. I have trained hard and I need to eat healthy and hydrate well all week. Temps are expected to be 90 for the race. UUUGGGHHH

Why is it " not a good idea" to weigh yourself daily? I do this. I feel like it prevents me from overeating. Any thoughts on this?

I was good yesterday, I ate three meals and only had one snack. I was tempted, but thought about this challenge.... cant let the team down!!!

i've heard people say that it's too obsessive, and also that the daily variation is such that it doesn't necessarily tell you anything. i find myself that if i weigh everyday, and the numbers go up, which might be water or something, then i get depressed and give up. that said, i am weighing most days during the challenge!

Yeah, I believe the every day weigh in's are discouraged for the same reasons as stated above.

Yesterday was a really good day as far as my food intake goes. Something I would like to add into my routine is not eating after 8:30 p.m. I tend to do really well during the day when I have other activities going on but after 8:00 p.m. the kids are in bed and I have my "chill out" time. I tend to plop down in front of the TV and watch some stupid show and then I start thinking how good food would be at that moment and then I start browsing through the pantry. Browsing then turns into eating and eating turns into too many calories for the day.

Anyway, I feel really good this morning. I think my head cold (left over from flu-like symptoms from last week) is finally going away. The chlorine did wonders for it this morning! I can actually breathe again!

Food choices are the most important thing for me....my meals yesterday:

Breakfast-Protein shake (Strawberry, pineapple and coconut---sounds gross but actually pretty tasty)

    Lunch-3 bottles of water.

Supper-3 bites of peas, 3 bites of lean steak and 12 tortilla chips.

Over the course of the day 12 bottles (16.9 oz) of delious water.

Happy Tuesday all!  I am a daily weigher and my weight does vary.  Mostly I think it is a hydration issue.  I know that if I did not drink enough the day before, my weight will be up.  I usually know that if I did not get up in the middle of night to go to the bathroom, I did not drink enough.

About the late night snacking, I treat myself to a sugar free popsicle every night,  Satisfys my craving for something sweet and keeps me from going to the closet for stuff I should not be eating.

I think it is easier for me since we have no kids, we do not keep much junk in the house.

    Have a good day all!
