I know! And notice how none of them had a bucket (Sorry, couldn't resist). Seriously, though, they're freaking FAST

I think they set it up this way to make it spectator-friendly.

Good size pack, it looks like it will come down to a 10-K running race as usual.

they have to go up the hill 6 times, I doubt it will be a big pack at the end...

I should put my last name real big on my tri top for my race on sunday. And, I agree, the course looks like fun (except going around 6 times). I hate loops, I get bored.

LOL...unless you spend the whole ride as a wheel sucker, not taking any pulls and saving energy!  You wonder if there is any yelling like in the TdF when riders don't take their share at the front?

I would

The lead pack is down to 20 (from 50+) lets see how many are dropped on this loop!

Mens race work more as teams... will be interesting to see if those tactics come into play up the hill to get a win for the country! (riding like a tdf team)

It's interesting to see how differently the men races goes compared to the womens.

Also of note, I love loop courses. I don't notice much while racing anyway and loops make it easier to pace for me.

That hill doesn't look long enough or hard enough for a big attack, say on the next to last lap, for a small group to get away.  Not like the one in Athens four years ago, now that was a killer hill.

It seems to be enough to eliminate some of the field... no ones really having a go off the front either.. maybe they all think hey have the legs for hte run?

I would assumed team USA or Australia would have done that for the women as well. Been a hilly course I think what the men teams will do is to make sure the best runner makes it to the 10K with the lead pack but that is just my guess.

Ohata [currently on the break] came back from a huge deficit in the 2007 Hy-Vee triathlon during the run portion and chewed through several competitors en route to a second or third place finish. It was amazing to watch.
