My old man stopped by last night and said that he was out at Gazelle's yeasterday and they were telling him that they still don't have a route for this race. The roads that they have always rode/run are all under construction.

I forgot all about that, ran out there a week ago and they were a mess. This should be interesting.

I shot the race director a note yesterday after reading this post asking if there were any construction issues that will affect the bike/run route and haven't heard back. Not too surprising a couple days before a big race but on the other hand she's known for promptly answering questions so I'm a little curious now...

If I hear anything I'll post an update.

I did the same and her reply was to give her a call and she would tell me the new route. I never called but this morning I see that she sent out an email with maps showing the route.
The hope the roads are up and going but if not then the different route will be used thus adding a mile to the ride. That's fine with me, just don't add another mile to the run. lol

I just looked at the revised map and it's no big deal whatsoever. They are only adding .15 of a mile to the bike distance IF they even have to adjust the route. Sounds like they'll make a decision today and go with it.

I agree with the prior post about adding the extra distance to the bike NOT the run.

Good luck to everyone doing this race. It's well run and a blast, just don't swallow a lot of Reeds Lake water!!!

I thought it was great.

The times are not posted yet but my watch says this.
Swim 17:41
T1 2:49
Bike 56:49
T2 1:48
Run 46:19
Total was 2:05:something (I hit "lap" not stop)

I have been doing a 28 to 30 minutes for a mile swim and this swim I felt great. Only had a few times where my stride got broke because of another swimmer so I was shocked when I came out in 17 mintes not 13 or 14 mintues. Do you think the swim was long?

The Bike was great, I still really need to work on my spinning and even more so on climbing. Had two hills that I dropped to the creaper gear and maxed at 9mph. I hit a max of 37mph though.. My average was a little over 19mph. I'm happy with that.

The run was ok. You would think that someone that for the last two years have been running half and full marathons would be better on the run. I walked 3 short walks but other then that it was ok. 9:15 per mile.

Good to meet you Mike for the short time you were passing me.

I'm still analyzing my numbers compared to last year. My 2008 time was slower by 3 minutes but with at least an extra mile on the bike and I swear the run was longer than last year I'm somewhat satisifed.

It was good to talk with you Troy, you cruised on the swim too!

On another note, any transition problems for you? On my rack some 20-something year old punk showed up around 7:15am and had the balls to move a guys bike from the end so he could squeeze his in. None of us that arrived at 6:00am were there when he did it and when he came back the guy who's bike got moved asked the kid if it was his and the kid acted like he was the one put out because he had to squueze in.

We ended up with 9 bikes on our rack which was too many. Reeds Lake race organizers need to spend a bit more time planning the transition side of the event. They should assign our transition spots at a minimum...

I thought the swim seemed a little long too --not sure about the run (because my run times suck). But the mile markers between 3 and 4 seemed way off --seemed to take a long time to get to 3, and then a very short time to get to 4.

Perfect day for racing though.

And I think the race is getting too large --the transition area was a little out of control in my opinion.

Still, a fun race and my last for the season (thank God!). It has been a fun, but long season of 5 races --2 OLYS, 3 sprints. I made some noticeable gains on the bike and the swim. Off season focus: run, run, run and, um, yeah, more running.

I really had no problems in transition. They had in the rule book clearly stated as no more then 8 bikes per rack. If I had come back to find my gear moved so some punk could get in there at 9 bikes he would have come back to find his stuff in a pile in the grass. I would not have put up with that. I was racked in the last rack on the right side by the bike mount sign and the only "problem" I had was in T2 I had to move a bike over to get mine back on the rack in my spot. No big deal, people are in a rush and don't rack it right.

WOW looking at the race numbers I really need to get faster on the bike and run. I beat like 700 people in the swim times but only like 300 overall. There was a bunch of guys in my AG that I beat out of the water by over 5 minutes but they still kicked my butt by over 10 minutes by the end. I know what I'll be working on this winter.

After reviewing my 07 and 08 Reeds Lake results I'm convinced the swim and run were longer than advertised.

For the swim I was five seconds slower in 08 yet I put in TONS of swimming over the winter, spring and summer including four tris.

For the run I was over two minutes slower in 08 yet I lost over 30 pounds (mainly muscle, stopped lifting weights in January and tightened up the diet and did a lot of swim, bike, run ) and on top of that I ran a lot harder during the race in 08....

It's disappointing that there isn't the precision at Reeds Lake like there seems to be at USTA sanctioned events. I think in order for me to do this event anymore I'll need to decide ahead of time that my times are irrelevant since there's no way to rely on the distances...

Just an FYI, I had my Garmin on for the run and I came across the line at 4.89 miles.

I do agree that the swim seemed painfully long.  I did so poorly that I promptly came home and ordered the Tri Swim Coach DVD.

Gmapping the route puts it at 4.88 and when I run with my garmin 305 it's damn close to the same.

I'll just chalk it up to a bad day then. Based on my level of fitness and being lighter etc., I'm surprised by my splits compared to last year.

It was still a beautiful day to race and I had a good time so I'll go with that!
