There is a LOT of misinformation about triathlon ... on BT ...  So take everything you read with a grain of salt . ... The key is consistent training, work hard on your hard days and go easy on your easy days.  Everything else is a lot of noise.

Go to a running store. There is a 99 percent chance that, on your own and being a beginner, you will choose the wrong sneakers. No one here can recommend anything for you because we have no idea wether you pronate or suppinate, whether you have high arches or flat feet, whether you have good form or bad form... etc.

You know, another suggestion just came to mind: Instead of worrying about all the gear and such, do some workouts--or a least log the workouts you've been doing so some Preach D1ck like myself doesn't come in here and bust your stones!

Just sayin'...

This from the guy who has been sinking serious coin into upgrades for his bike and is looking at new custom cycling shoes.

i still don't really understand how you go from biking to running do you take your suit off and change into running shorts or leave it on if you change where do you go i know it is prolly a no brainer to everyone here but i am kinda confused about it so give me a bit of slack...

I recommend going to watch a triathlon and checking out the transition area in order to see what everyone does - it will make a lot more sense once you see it firsthand.  Alternatively, you can check out this video on BT here.

Also recommend training for some other events, like a 5K.  You know, just to see if you like the whole racing thing, and also to have something to focus on since your goal race is over a year away.

 Have fun!

This is really good advice.  My first exposure to a triathlon was doing the bike leg as part of a team/relay.  Gave me a taste of the triathlon experience and the opportunity to see individual competitors in action, how they handled T1 and T2.  Other recommendation is keep doing what your doing with asking lots of questions.  For every question you ask though your going to get multiple, varied answers as there's more than one way, more than one opinion on everything.  Getting lots of opinions will allow you to figure out what may work best for you.  A lot of the folks here have experience in a variety of races (distances) in a variety of situations.  All of us have done things right and have also made a lot of mistakes along the way that we've learned from and can share.

As you get going just try to keep it fun.

Don't listen to all these sissies or your own intelligence.  Do what I did.  Jump into a tri under trained and having never done any OWS or mt bike (for an mt bike race)  There is nothing like pure fear to drive you through a race.  I say this in complete jest, you are asking all the right questions, but as one poster said go run, bike and swim and it will fall into place.

But at least I have a sprint or two in the books so I know what I like/want/need.

Looking forward to seeing your workouts starting on Monday, Alex.

BTW: I agree w/ Danielle and Aaron: Going to watch a Tri is an excellent idea!
