Well, is it worth discussing all this with your current family? Or do you feel that it would be better just to apply for this position? Wow Dee you basically said the same thing as me.. only much more succinctly... That's me. Few words. Many posts. |

Or to yourself? kaqphin - 2008-10-16 6:24 PM mchally - 2008-10-17 12:20 PM continuing my rant.... I wrote out the schedule she gave me-which suddenly has 4 more hours than we discussed-and have calculated how many hours of work that is each month-into how much that would be at the pay level I would expect from a job-starting out. Subtract a reasonable amount for 'room and board' and most months I come out short a couple of hundred bucks-that includes no paid vacation or anything. Plus, I have a ton of experience and should be earning more than the pay level I calculated -I have been here nearly 3 years and usually you get raises... I could go on and on...but you don't need to hear it and I will just get more frustrated.
Basically you need to sit down with them and explain it to them... its the only way you are going to feel better about it. Anyway finding out what other people are earning? And mentioning the extra 4 hours... negotiating some sort of over time arrangement so you feel like they cannot take advantage of your good nature... Its the same in any working environment.. if you dont speak up then you will never get anywhere... I know-I just want to make sure I can 'present my case' and not just melt down. I really have issues with any sort of confrontation. I have been doing mental drafts, collecting 'evidence'-I prefer research papers over creative writing. |

So is the issue you want the current place to match that offer... Or... is it more a matter of you need a push to apply for this other job? more of the first-I just started browsing other people's offers to get an idea of what is the norm. the other place does sound really nice though. I could use a change. I am closer to school if I stay here(15-20 minutes, maybe more). It would also be lame of me to just up and ditch. sc Well maybe just talk to them then... tell them how much you love working there and ask them if there is anything they can do to evolve the current situation. Im sure they dont want to go to the bother of finding someone else... right? |

Champion 26509 Sydney | Subject: RE: Nibbs XXVI Id sound them out first - dont launch straight into - they are offering this and I want you to match it. But mention you wanted to look into the 'industry' and find out what was reasonable so they know you are not out to take advantage of them - so you did the research first... Makes it sound like you really like them and prefer to stay but have to think of your own financial situation as well... and it was a matter of trying to find out what your current position is worth... Youll be all good! |
