Hi it's been hard to chat when traveling... i was very lonely!

Back in beantown now and hit the pool and did 2 quick miles on the treadmill.

I'm not looking forward to the cold outdoor running...this will be the first winter i attempt it!! Here it starts cold and ends cold so i can't help with gear questions

Happy Thursday everyone!

Morning, Apples -

Got another 5 & change in yesterday...I love trail running, but the leaves are starting to cover the trails, so I stayed mostly on the paved/gravel trails (instead of the really cool dirt ones) so I wouldn't worry so much about footing...

Its getting cool in California, everyone else must be getting real cold weather!

Good morning,I went to my first run club meeting after bieng a member for just under a year and was very suprised by the medley of talent and the overwhelming love for running. Running has been my limiter since the first day I started training, however, because of BT info and knowledge I have gained, I felt as though I fit right in .

I continue to struggle with running, but with challenges like these I renew my goals and continue to get stronger and add milage. Every run workout for me is uncomfortable, because of consistent efforts I am at that threshold of going from jogging to actual running. I am actually looking forward to my next run, keep us in the lead Apple Team!

good evening Apples.  I just did a comfortable 5 miles - not too far but I am feeling stronger all the time.  Running is my weakest point so I am doing a 1/2 marathon in March to help focus my run training.  Sorry to hear about all the cold weather everyone is having. We are having an unusual warm spell in North Carolina - 77degrees.  I hate running in the cold so this is FANTASTIC!  Have a great weekend everyone. I'm going to the local farmer's market and I'll be sure to buy lots of APPLES in honor of us!!

Morning Apples.   I have a 6 mile trail run but I am hoping to turn that into at least 7 or 8 with a nice warm up   Very mild here in Seattle at the moment but of course it's damp.

16.19 miles so far  this November -- quads are killing me from switching to forefoot running with only racing flats.  Can barely go down the stairs

Apples-

I've got good news and bad news... the bad news is yes, my time running thus far this month is REALLY poor.  The good news is the past two days have been pretty pain free... so I'm hopeful I'll get a real run tonight!  Hopefully all the rest has done me well and I can get back on the horse!

I had a tough 2.5m jog yesterday the asthma gremlin came along and knocked me out!  the change of season may be to blame.. .only myself to blame for not carrying the inhaler!

Joe - tell me about this forefoot running! i've had tips on bike position and i'm taking swim lessons... but i haven't worked on run technique.   Any info would be very appreciated.

Hey Apples-

Looks like were off to a good start on this challenge!  Unfortunately you have ME on your team... but I'm hopeful I'll be back to real running this week to be able to stay on the team and challenge!

I PM'd our two team members who have not posted miles. Remember each member needs to be at 30% by next weekend to stay with the team.

Best of luck earning our pie!

Running technique: The Footstrike

Heel vs. Midfoot vs. Forefoot: How do elite runners land?

I found it interesting...

"your expectation might be that they found:

  • The majority of runners land on the forefoot
  • Those that DO NOT land on the forefoot are the runners who finish towards the back of the field

Well, if that's what you thought, you'd be completely incorrect...! Because the finding is the following:

  • The vast majority (75%) of the elite runners land on the heel
  • About 1 in four (24%) runners landed on the mid-foot
  • Only 4 out of 283 runners landed on the forefoot"

Hello apples!

Finally back to running!  Having some issues (long story) but things seem to be on the up (I hope)  Didn't make my trail run as my ride fell through and felt so bummed all weekend I didn't do anything! Took my dog on a 5 mile run tonight however. Felt great. Nice and slow

Tomorrow I'll know for SURE if this wee fella is going  fella is going to be mine   I'm excited! My husband and I ordered one for our 10th wedding anniversary in May and it's not due till next Spring but Smart have an orphan for us if we want it

I believe forefoot is not anyfaster but it reduces injuries.  In 3 years of Highschool running I have two years of shin splints, 1 of stree factures, and 1 of knee inflamation.  So anything that reduces injury I'm am gonig to try.  I already have the store holding the newtons for me.

Arrrgggggh!!! I am really far behind!  If I'd know my November was going to be so stressful I wouldn't have joined another challenge! I'll do my best though! I mean I still have a half marathon this run!! So I should be near my goal!!  I hope.

Find out today about the car! It's sitting waiting, my name on it! I just have to feel secure in buying it.  Urgh.

I'm running a 5K up and over Heartbreak Hill next weekend (has anyone heard of that? it's part of the Boston Marathon ) I really want to see 30:** on the clock.  (that's a CRAZY GOAL given the terrain- but why not set my sights high??)

GO APPLES!!!

If you check one of the routes I made -- the short hill one -- we have to run that in the middle of a 5 mile race.  Its a little before 4 miles.  Even though I can run a 18:40 5k I walk the hill so I have energy for the rest of race.

Hi, Apples!

I'm at 32.2/70 right now and I'll add another 13.1 with my half-mary race tomorrow! Whoo whoo! (Yes, my month is a little front loaded...I'll probably be a little bit of a sloth next week.)

K - good luck with the 13.1 tomorrow!!!

(damn - i'm going to have to put some serious miles in this weekend to keep pace with your %s!!)

Hello! I asked to join this challenge at the beginning of the month but didn't know I was a part of this team until today!

I had set an OUTDOOR running goal of 70 miles for the month. And so far, it's looking good.

Go Team Apples!
