DrPete - 2009-06-22 1:40 PM Just wanted to throw an update out there...

I used my earplugs and popped a Meclizine (brand name: Bonine)1 hour before the swim, and all was well. Not sure which of the two it was, but since I usually use my earplugs and this is the first swim - pool OR OWS - that I've had zero dizziness and felt really good, I have to give the meclizine some credit.

I'll chime in too.  If the water was cold then you may have had a vestibular trouble and standing may have given you chance to feel it.  The cold water gets in the canal so earplugs do help.  The cold water on the horizonal semi circular canal cause a decreaseing the firing rate of the hair cells nerves.  This causes confusion in brain thus dizziness and nausea.   If it is real bad dry the ear and cover it with you hand.  To help warm it back up. Marmadaddy and I looked like idiots standing on one foot seeing how dizzy we were.
