newbz - 2009-07-19 5:59 PM hey now, we are not always hungover, or that doesnt always mean we will be slow........

Haha.  Sometimes when I wake up at 4am to get ready for a race I think to myself "My friends are probably just leaving the bars/parties or just waking up in jail".  Why I chose this lifestyle now I have no clue

Haha.  Luckily I haven't had that problem since I don't party much anymore (did too much of that from 14-24).  What is real tough was working a physically demanding job (moving pool tables) and spending an entire night up drinking and well sometimes other stuff to leave for work with 0.00 hours of sleep knowing I won't be off for another 12+ hours.

If I was at a bicycle race and Lance Armstrong showed up for funsies and I had to race him, then that'd be sweet.  My only chance of beating him would be to literally beat him as he doubles back for the finish (or mace him) but I'd love to say I did a race with Lance Armstrong.
Lance did the Leadville Mtn 100 race last year... and got beaten by our local hero Dave Wiens! Lance is supposed to come back this year to try again... my money might be on Dave though. The guy has won it for 6 years straight (or is it 7... can't remember.) Oh, an Floyd Landis did the race in 2007, Dave beat him too.

If you show up and are qualified for the division, then you get to race in it. End of story in my book. Everyone else should just train harder.

ATLsbr - 2009-07-19 5:58 PM What if a Kenyan showed up to a local 5k?

I say no problem, but the wife of a friend of mine said some ran a half marathon she had trained for.  It was demoralizing to her to be hitting the loop section of the course and seeing them coming back in.  Either way I have no problem with whoever shows up at an event.

It has the opposite affect on me. I get pumped up when a course doubles back and I see the leaders way out in front.
