I swam in grade school, and did fly. I sucked then, and I would imagine I suck now. However, if I could pull off a 50 fly, I would do it. Mostly becuase I want to try the yelling thing out. Seriously, it is a great workout. Like doing clapping pushups. Plus, there is a certain cool factor if you can pull it off.
MNGopher - 2009-08-11 5:01 PM I have often wondered this while at the local pool. I normally just swim front crawl like the rest of them, but sometimes I remember the good old times from my swim team days and like to rip off a 50 of fly. Is this bad? It was one of my strokes at the time and I can actually still do it and I do enjoy it, but I worry it will upset others. I won't do it if I'm sharing a lane.
If you are in your own lane... who cares what you do? You aren't hurting anyone by doing it. Why would it upset others? *Confused look*
I think it's pretty common for some fly swimmers to yell loudly when their head is out of the water. It can be be intimidating to an 80 yr old noodler to see and hear that coming at you at 6am.
Now I'm confused. Did you actually mean: "I think it's pretty common for some fly swimmers to yell loudly when their head is out of the water."?
LOL I thought red was just for sarcasm. I was just being a smartazz. ;-) I got that vision in my head and went with it. I'm actually thinking of trying it out. If I do, I'll video tape it but I have to be sure there is an 80yr old noodler in my lane so I can get their reaction.
Hrm. considering that you should be breathing IN while your face is out of the water, that should be pretty amusing. :D
