I love holiday weight challenges,I would like to get in, I need to tear down some weight for cycling season starting in January. I need to loose some 20 pounds by way of cycling and weightlifting. I will be starting at 195 and hope to get to 175 or better. This is perfect timing!

Count me in!  I have already lost 112 pounds with 3 to go to hit my original goal.  I think I need to drop about 18 more total though now that I have perspective of what 175 looks like on me.  Having said that, I will go with a goal weight of 160 on Christmas Day!

Current Weight:  178
Goal Weight:  160

I'd definitely be up for this - the holidays are so challenging, having a support group would be wonderful!

I'd love to join if I can! I'm starting at 140 lbs after a crazy crazy summer of stress and lots of eating. I started out this summer at 135 and would like to get to 130 by the end of the year if possible. I spent most of last year trying to listen to my body: eating when I'm hungry, stopping when I'm full, eating what I want. I actually lost weight, but I'd like to start eating cleaner if I can.

My goals right now are to log my calories on The Daily Plate
3 days of cycling on the trainer
3 days of strength
8 cups of water

Hmm, I'm sure I'll come up with more eventually.

Great challenge! Thanks!

Deja Vu ~ another Erin!   and of course you may join.  Is The Daily Plate pretty user friendly?  I would really like to log my food somewhere that makes it easy to see exactly how much I am taking in but it has to be user friendly as I don't like to sit in front of my computer for hours on end trying to do it.  Needless to say, right now I am using good old fashion pen and paper and guesstimating!

Haha, I noticed that, too. I've been running into a lot of Erin lately.

Actually I'm on the fence about The Daily Plate. It's pretty easy to use and I like that they have brand names so you can pick your exact bread, peanut butter, etc. I also like that it breaks down how much fiber, fat, cals, protein, etc and their percentages. That's nice. On the other hand, does feel pretty tedious, although it keeps a list of foods you eat and you can make "meals" so you don't have to search everything. But it takes time to add meals in and I'm kind of lazy about it. I'd say give it a try for a day or two since it's free. I'm going to try the good old fashioned way, too and see which sticks.

What a wonderful idea!  I am very new to BT, and am so excited to embark on my journey into triathlon!  I've been a runner for years, and am excited for the new challenge of triathlon training!

Last year, I ran the Chicago Marathon (almost one year ago exactly).  Well, some women gain baby weight, and instead I gained marathon-training weight!  While marathon training I ate healthfully, but I ate a ton!  I decreased calories after, but certainly never went back to where I used to be.  The bottom line is about 15-16 extra lbs on my 5'9" frame that I did not have prior to starting marathon training.

I'll post again on Thursday, but as of right now my current weight is 158, and I'm looking to get down to 142-145.

Thanks for starting this!  What a fabulous way to start the holidays.

I would love to chime in when I can.  The fall is always a stressful time for me at work, but this year I have got to keep a focus on eating clean and healthy, while trying to finally drop some weight.  I want to be at my pre-season weight by January 1, so this is a great time frame for me.  I'm starting at about 165 and want to get to around 145 (anything under 150 would be excellent).

I'm planning on doing IMCDA next June, and I really don't want to lug around an extra 20 lbs around the bike course!  I picked up two of my dumbbells yesterday that equal 20 lbs and thought, "This is what I'm carrying around, and no wonder it's making me slower!".

I log on Fitday.com.  I used Training Peaks as well, but I like how Fitday lets you set weight loss goals and tracks the progress.  I've tried not logging, and it totally doesn't work (for me, anyway).  I need the accountability.

My strategy is Paleo-esque; lots of lean proteins, fruits and veggies.  I also need to be consistent with eating small meals throughout the day.  I tend to cave around 3-4 p.m. and run to grab something quick because I'm starving.  Usually, that means Poptarts or something equally as nutritionally void.

It looks like a great group.  I'm looking forward to seeing everyone's progress.

this sounds great.

my wife had our second baby in the summer and on 7/24 i weighed in at 242.2lbs, this is the heaviest i've ever been and the most unfit. anyway, came across this site and thought, i can do that. so i am aiming for a my first tri in the spring. i've started running, need to dust off the bike and googles yet. (i really don't want to turn into a Dad who sits on the sidelines because he can't take part)

anyway i would like to be down to 200lbs by christmas. by my calculations that works out at 2.16lbs a week, since i have already got down to 226lbs as of this morning. (i'm using my own dieting technique, eating less, drinking less (no) beer and actually doing something other than watching TV.)

i also found a cool website, not sure if you guys have seen it before hundredpushups.com, i started this as well this week. don't know if you are interested in the challange....

thanks

Mike

Tedious is a good word for it but I seriously need to do something so I think I'll go check it out and like you said, at least give it a try.  Maybe after the initial logging of foods you regularly eat it will be easier!

Welcome to both the challenge and to BT, Christina!!!  This is a great time to get started on your new journey as it gives you plenty of time to get an overall base before doing your first tri ~ of course, that is assuming your waiting until next year to do your first tri?!

Fitday....hmmm!  I'll have to check that one out also.  I too need the accountability which is why I'm hoping once I start actually logging my food it'll help with these last 10(ish) lbs!
What is it about that time frame?  That seems to be the problem for a lot of us!!

CONGRATS to you and your wife, Mike!!!  Is this your first child?  I always find it funny how guys put on weight with us ~ my hubby did the same thing!
As for the pushups, there is a forum for it in the challenge me thread called "100 pushups in 6 weeks."  It has been ongoing for a while and people just come and go, start and re start all the time so you might want to check it out!!

I weighed myself at the gym today and I was 166.  I would lovelovelove to lose 10 lbs by Christmas.  Mind you this is the 10 lbs I have been trying to lose for the last year and change.  Let's get it started!

I'll get in on this one.  I started at around 350 at the beginning of the year and had some good progress going, but the doc put me on injured reserve with serious shin splints...  Instead of pushing through and potentially ending up with stress fractures, I took my PCP, orthopedist, and physical therapists advice and shut down the running for six months.  Then my company decided it would be a good idea to go down the IPO path in the middle of the worst recession in history, which required me to work 10-14 hour days and weekends.  Needless to say, the lost pounds crept back on so, this challenge should help jump start the pre-season to my first tri season in 2010.

I was 360 on the scale at the gym, but not sure how far it's off since it wasn't properly balanced.  I'll go with it, but I'm scheduling a body composition test for Saturday, so I'll have a more accurate number then.  Goal for the challenge is 24 pounds less by Christmas (2 lbs/week).
