Member 12 | Subject: RE: tripletmom01 mentor group - CLOSEDAbout myself: NickNAME: Zim STORY: I am 26 years old living in between Toronto/Montreal, Canada. Have been a sports enthusiast most of my life... In high school I was on the Track, Soccer, Swimming Teams casually Volleyball, Baseball - you could say i was active. Towards the end of high school I got involved in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu/Wrestling and Muay thai and competed in a number of tournaments finishing however, due to the nature of contact sports injuries tend to be a common occurrence (specifically my Neck/Spine injury).. thought I would move on to something else 2010 would be my first Tri Season.. I am very excited and feel this is the sport for me My motivation would be my past failures mostly due to inconsistency and ironically lack of motivation after injuries... (And my desire for competition of course, who am I kidding~!) I also like the fact that this is a sport in which you tend to get better with age as a lot of people have mentioned and it's an excellent way to keep in shape year round... ULTIMATE GOAL: would be a 3-4 year plan to an Ironman. I also went back to school this Fall for another Degree getting through that would also be a goal. Injury free 2010. FAMILY STATUS: Loving parents and elder Bro... Trying to get them fit as well... It’s hard to motivate them; sometimes I think I'm adopted. CURRENT TRAINING: (Prep-- 9th week) Joined a Masters Swim Club.. 2-3x a week (1 hr/ 1200 - 2400m per session) Spinning 2-3 x a week (min 1 hour - max 2 hour - once a week) Run - ** Ligaments injury in my foot.. physio… Shall be starting deep water running in the New Year… S&C - 2x per week (general) Yoga 1x per week. WEIGHTLOSS: happy where I am 2009 PLANNED RACES: 2 Sprints, 1 Duathlon, 1 Olympic.. couple of 5-10k's depending on foot.. Merry Xmas Thanks tripletmom01 Zim |

Although I don't expect to be challenging for the podium, I'd like a plan that gets me ready to do a good race, not just finish safely. -Matt |

I'm not a bronze member yet, but that is probably the plan I'm leaning towards at this point. I need to get my run time up to the starting levels..... I've been trying to do most of my weekday training in the mornings, and some of the swim/run and swim/bike combos would make that difficult. Hmmmmmmmm. Edited by MLJ 2009-12-16 3:54 PM |

62![]() ![]() | Subject: RE: tripletmom01 mentor group - CLOSEDFirst Race of 2010 - Together We Tri Indoor Triathlon. I've never done an indoor triathlon before but it sounds interesting. Seems like a good way to get an early one in to keep the motivation going during the cold winter months. The format is a 10 minutes swim, 10 minutes T1, 20 minute bike, 5 minute T2 and then a 15 minute run. I believe the standings are based on how far you go during those time intervals. Won't know until I try it. "A" Race of 2010 - Chicago Triathlon - Olympic distance. I did the Sprint this year now looking to add some distance. Besides that I don't have any other tris planned yet though I would like to fit in others. One thing I really need to do is get faster on the bike. That is definitely my weakest sport. Right now I'm just trying to get consistent training time in on the bike trainer in the basement. Considering upgrading to some aero-bars on my road bike and clipless pedals..... |

Ithink it is a girlish name for some reason- oh well- doesnt matter ANd I would definitly invest in clipless pedals.... you will wonder WHY you didnt do that before!!! |

New user 71![]() ![]() Tempe | Subject: RE: tripletmom01 mentor group OPEN!Hello!
I did the half in 2007 and the full this past year. It is a great race, especially in terms of organization and support. The two times I’ve done, there have been drastically different temperatures so I would definitely bring multiple clothing options. (although, being from Wisconsin, I am guessing you will be pretty comfortable)
It’s very flat, as advertised. Although the music is not always “the best” the energy of the people make it awesome. I have a few friends doing it this year so maybe I will spot you out there.
No worries about the leg. Rest and easy running will make the race a lot more enjoyable so good job on being patient enough to take care of yourself! |

Expert 834![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Medina, MN | Subject: RE: tripletmom01 mentor group - CLOSEDMy first race of the season is likely to be my first HIM in June. My schedule is pretty busy with family obligations, so I generally don't have time to do a race unless it's an "A" race, at least in my mind. My current training is trying to build up to a level where I can start a 20-week HIM plan in mid to late January without imploding. The race in June is open, and the registration fee is $90 now, but increases to $100 as of 1/1. On one hand, if I register, the fear will help me get out of bed and be better about training. At the same time, if I get injured and can't do it, then I've possibly lost $90. More likely I'd try to beg the race director to let me do the olympic instead. Any thoughts? |

Member 54![]() ![]() Corpus Christi, TX | Subject: RE: tripletmom01 mentor group - CLOSEDI think my first race will be the Texas State Sprint Tri in April.  I should be ready by then to swim the 500m.  Luckily for me I'm to stubborn and hard headed to fail.  It's funny..........I can ride a bike and run for forever and a day but swimming kicks my you know what haha.  I'll get it done!! There are some other races going on in May and during the summer but I'll focus on the first one and then worry about the rest later. |

Extreme Veteran 334![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Oshawa, Ontario | Subject: RE: tripletmom01 mentor group - CLOSEDMy first race will be the 30K (18 miles) around the Bay in Hamilton, Ontario. I did this race last year in preparation for marathon in May, and I aced it. I kepted my pace and ran straight thru, no walking. So, this year I'm looking at beating my time. I have not decided on my first sprint yet, my first tri, so many races to choose from. Winter started so late this year, I hope it doesn't drag on thru the spring making for extremely cold swims......Well, while writing this I decided to take a second look at the list I created of all 2010 events in my area. I think I'll be signing up for the Ottawa Early bird on May 15 (500m indoor swim). WOW, this mentoring stuff really works, now I've commited myself to get my butt off the couch just by writing about it and sharing it with others. Now, where did I put my running shoes? |

Subject: RE: tripletmom01 mentor group - CLOSEDtexastriman - 2009-12-16 9:03 PM SO.... The college tri club here is putting on a sprint with a pool swim in late April, which I'll probably do just because it's local so my kids can come and I want to support the tri club. I haven't done a tri with a pool swim before - or biked soaking wet in April ! My "A" race will likely be an Oly, still TBD. I have vowed that I will not move up to the HIM distance this year, but don't hold me to that! |
