Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Gregkl - 2010-03-14 8:51 PM Thanks. Was looking for the info on the Monon thing though. I did the swim clinic at the first year of the symposium. It's actually not a "Monon" sponsored thing. I'm actually one of the "authorized coaches" who are allowed to coach/train there, and it is something that I do. I'll PM you the info. If anyone else is interested, just PM me. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Coaching member | ![]() Hi! Can you tell me if Summit Lake State Park would be a good place to camp/stay the night before Muncie Endurathon? Thanks! -Ohioan |
![]() ![]() |
Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Never been there. It is probably pretty close to the reservoir though. There is basically only 1 road into and out of the transition area, so regardless of where you stay, you'll want to leave early. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Anyone know what the on-course support will be? Website only offers that lemon-lime Gatorade & flat Coke will be available on bike course, and LL Gatorade on run. This will be 1st HIM, so just wanting to know what to plan for. |
![]() ![]() |
Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() That is what they had last year and I think the year before if I remember correctly. Keep checking their website. They will start updating it as we get closer....not that that helps in training, but Gatorade would be a safe guess. |
|
![]() ![]() |
Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() if I remember right, they had gatorade and water on the bike, about every 12 miles or so, and on the run they had both and coke about every 1.5 miles plus hammer gels and endurolytes. |

Thanks! -Ohioan It's a pretty nice park (Summit) ....I WOULD NOT Even try and Stay at the main camp ground at Prarie Creek (Race Site)...bunch of Rednecks that would keep you up all night hooping and hollering, no regulation for quiet times....There is another camp ground on the south end of the Reservior at Prarie Creek that maybe better, it's private ran and only 1.5 miles from the Race Headquarters...I'll see if I can get you a phone number.. |

![]() I actually stayed at the Prairie Creek campground last weekend for the Muncie Multisport Oly and know what you're saying about the rowdies, elkboy65. Although, it's a GREAT location for the race and if you have an RV where you can turn on the A/C and fans then you should still be able to get your rest. The electric sites are only 30AMP and water is every few sites. Earplugs are a must if you're tenting it, though. ![]() |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Harris Chapel is the church on Gates road just south of the res and they always open the church (free or cheap) to athletes who want to hit the floor the night before. I think there must be shower facilities too. You could give them a call. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Camped a fair amount around IN over the years & agree noise can be an issue. I've got a hotel reservation in Muncie near BSU campus, but I understand driving to race site takes some time. Would allowing 30min drive be reasonable? Also- Are bottle hand-ups on bike OK? Didn't give it much thought until watching the IM 70.3 Clearwater broadcast where Zeiger (2009 women's champ) went down at bike aid station (breaking collarbone & ribs). |
|
![]() ![]() |
Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Yes, 30 minutes to res from campus is enough, but there's one road in, so get an early start....you could be sitting in traffic. |
![]() ![]() |
Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() There is another camp ground out there just west of harris chaple on the south end we actually run and bike right past it....it's a private campground and I will try to get the number tonight and post it...my neighbor camps there and it has always been very nice and "quiet"....only 5k from the start finish lines.... |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Rode past there today. It is called Rosewood Manor and is on the west side of the reservoir on Burlington road between 300 S and 350 S. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() More info posted on event website http://www.muncieendurathon.com/page/show/6089-home Had my DW practice bottle hand-ups with me this afternoon after 30m ride. Got every bottle at 15+mph with my right hand, but dropped about 1/3rd of attempts with my left at only 13mph. Is this something I need to practice more, or 13-15mph typical hand-up zone speed for Muncie? |

New user ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Sorry, but I'm gonna show off my newby status here. So how do the bike aid stations work? Do they hand you bottles? Do you stop for the aid station? I've never gone long enough on a bike to need aid stations, normally just carry all my fluids with me. I was thinking 2 24oz bottles would be plenty of fluids, but then I started seeing this stuff about bike aid stations, and I'm wondering if I'm just missing something? |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() The bike aid stations are about every 7 miles ....maybe every 9. When you approach, there will be a "DISCARD BOTTLES HERE" sign. This is where you throw your empty bottle (to make room in your bottle cage for a full one). Slow down. Volunteers will have water or gatorade in their hand withtheir arm stuck out like a run aid station. Grab and hold on to it. I usually then ride on out of the vicinity before I try to get it in my bottle cage. Slow down for the bike aid station. You CAN stop, but you don't have to. This is usually also where the port-o-potty is located. If you ARE going to stop, get out of the way before you actually stop. There is a DISCARD BOTTLES HERE sign after the aid station too for people who are going to refill a reservoir, aerodrink bottle, etc. This is worth the time to practice if you have someone who can help you. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Anybody know when they close Prairie Creek beech before the event? I was thinking of getting in a swim on Friday AM, then driving the bike course before registration. |
![]() ![]() |
Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I don't know for sure, but I would be pretty surprised if they closed the beach on Friday. There are usually lots of people / families out there on nice days. You'll probably be fine swimming Friday a.m. (Not for nothin, but the last 2 times I have swam out there, I've had an ear ache for 3 days afterwards....just in one ear though, so maybe it's it's an issue with my ear and not the water.)?? |
![]() ![]() |
Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Actually, I think they have the sports top bottles of gatorade so that it's easy to refill reservoirs (as opposed to the twist cap bottles). |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Looking like no wetsuits. Website posted water temp of 81F on Monday, with 2 days of sunny & low 90's since. Predicted T-storms Thursday night might cool things off a bit though. |

Thanks for the clarificaiton and tips. I did pick up an aero bottle this weekend at Runners Forum in Carmel, but I didn't realize I needed to buy the bracket as well. Oh well, I think I'll just stick with the 2 water bottles in my cages. I don't want to be trying something new on race day. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Grazer - 2010-07-08 9:01 AM Saturday's weather report is calling for a high of 82 and partly cloudy in Muncie. Sounds like pretty good racing weather for July! Somethings wrong...no scorching heat or torrential rains!!! Rain is moving in this afternoon and tonight with 40% chance tomorrow with a high of 79...that water temp could drop enough! But you can't beat mid 80s and sun with little wind forcast for Saturday!!! I'm almost...note almost sorry I'm doing the LC Duathlon and not swimming!!! I just rode out to the reservoir and everything is shaping up...out there! Edited by jmickle11 2010-07-08 12:31 PM |
