Sorry guys.. Oddly enough, when I was browsing the groups... I noticed a co-worker of mine is a mentor/leader.  I'm going to join her group! Thanks so much.

If the above directions didn't work for you, try the following:

1) Highlight the code for the table you want on your blog. Make sure the whole thing is highlighted.
2) Copy the table: CTRL + C
3) At the top of the window, click Settings
4) Click Training Blog Customization
5) Click Dashboard
6) Place the cursor/arrow where you want to place the table.
7) Paste the table: CTRL + V
(Don't worry that it's pasting code.)
8) Click the Update Dashboard button at the bottom of the window.
9) Check to see that the code was converted to the links table.

Here is the BUBBLES table code:

Actually, you can log housecleaning if you wanted to.

You can also log Pole Dancing. Really. (BT was either written by men, or by strippers, I guess. LOL)

But I digress, the point of this is not my cleaning, but the fact that you should listen to your body.  If you just know it's not your day, your feeling sick etc.  It's OK.  There are people that feel "I MUST DO WHAT"S PLANNED TODAY"  Flexibility is important.  Now, if you bailed on the day's workout plan every time you felt the least bit tired, that wouldn't work, but when you just know it's not the day... it's OK, especially in the off season.  Rest is just as important.  Sometimes just starting out slowly can be the key too. There are days when I feel as though I couldn't possibly do that run, swim or bike, but once I get going I start to feel better and I get in the workout.

My problem is figuring out if I'm really too tired, or if I just THINK I'm too tired! I agree though, a lot of times, if I start doing "something," I'll find that I feel better. There are times though, when I try but feel worse, so I figure my body is telling me to stop.... But there are also times when my brain "wins" and convinces me to take it easy. Afterwards, I'll look back at it, and realize that I SHOULD have tried to do at least a short workout.....

Log your workouts
- and get a cleaning service! Smile

LOL, don't I wish? I do log my workouts, at least.

Dee:  Pole Dancing....yep, saw that and went HUH?  And thanks for updating our list.

Thanks for the bio Michelle.  Hip dysplasia,  surgery, yikes!  But sounds like you have a plan right now and have doctors you can work with.  It's so frustrating when you've been active to find your self sidelined or having to reduce the amount of activities you want to do.  I too have some background in martial arts, although not as extensive as you.  I took Shotakan Karate and worked my way to first level of Brown.  That was went medically, things started falling apart.  I've always regretted not being able to get my black belt.  Maybe one day.

So, what's everyone up to for New Year's Eve? I'm off the the grocery store as we are having some friends over tonight.

I've added eveyone from the group to  my friends list.   Maggie - great log - love your goals.   Mindy: are you doing the Chicago Tri in August?  I've done that one so I can tell you all about it.  If you're planning on it and haven't registered, do so soon, because it does sell out early.

I'll check in later!

I don’t know they had mentor groups tell a friend told me he was thinking about being a mentor. I think this is WONDERFUL!!

Name: Mindy

Story: Well let me see… First off I have always been a big goal setter and 9 times out of 10 I usually reach them (even if it take 10 years :P). My three biggest goals as a child were, to do a triathlon become a firefighter and join the military (preferably the Marines). I always wanted to become a Marine I guess because of the motto they used,”The Few, the Proud, the Marines”. Anyway I found out shortly after I graduated high school that I had a blood disorder called ITP which is very similar to hemophilia, I don’t have enough platelets in my blood so the military won’t allow me to join. So I spoke to the Omaha fire department and since they said I would be too high of a liability for them they wouldn’t hire me either. So now I am doing my triathlon goal.
I want to be healthily more than anything. I was kind of a sickling child; I missed most of my fifth grade year because I was so sick with mono they almost had to hospitalize me and well every year since then I always seem to catch something. I have already been sick three times this year and truthfully I am just plan sick of being sick!! I want to be healthy and I know getting in shape and doing it the right way is the best way to that so that’s kind of way I am here.

Family: I have a rather large family. I have 6 older brothers and sister, all of which have children, totaling the niece and nephew count to 15, with one on the way. Thankfully I don’t have any children of my own yet. My husband and I have a dog and 2 cats which are my babies none the less.

Current training: I will be using the 16 week Olympic training program – 3x balanced that the site has put up. I have switched a few things around so it works a little better with my schedule but it is still basically that same program.

Previous races: Well since I just started over the summer I don’t have a lot under my belt as far as races are concurred. I have only competed in two triathlons both of which were sprints.

2010 races: I haven’t officially signed up for any races yet but my race goals this year are to do 3 Sprint and 2 Olympic triathlons this summer. I am also going to be doing a race running up a 40 story building. It’s called the Trek up the Tower.  Anyway it should be fun.

Weight loss: I have decided that weight loss isn’t going to be one of my focuses this year. I have been setting goals to lose weight for years and even though I usually do I always seem to put it back on in the long run, then I just get p*ssed off at myself for it. So I have decided that my goal this year is going to be eating right and sticking to my exercise program. I guess really my main focus is just to be healthy that’s all I really want. And well, if I lose weight GREAT, if not oh well.

Why I'd be a good mentee: I think I would be a good mentee because I still have no clue really what I should or need to be doing in order to train correctly. I need help, plain and simple.

Welcome Mindy and thanks for the bio,

I saw on your log that one of the Oly distance you are considering is Chicago.  I did that one so I could let you know about it if you sign up.  It does fill quickly.

Do to your blood disorder so you have to be very careful about getting cut?  It sounds like you have had a good start with 2 sprint distances last year.  Actually, the first year I did 2 sprints, the second year, 3 sprints, and 2 Olympic, spread over May through the end of August.  It worked quite well for me.  If you are starting the 16 week Olympic now, what do you have planned for after that?

Hi all and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Here is my New Year's Challenge to our group.

Starting next Sunday or Monday, I would like everyone to post your week's training schedule.  If you don't have a training schedule, look over BT's programs and see if you like one.  There are winter maintenance programs that would do nicely for this time of year.  If your not quite ready for that level of commitment, perhaps you just need to get into a schedule of doing something 4 to 5 times a week, but not an actual program.  That's fine too, but plan it out.  Monday - stationary bike for 30 min, or spin class; Tuesday  - treadmill for 30 min...you get it.  The point is to put it in writing for all of us to see.  Make sure you log all you do.  At the end of the week let's see how everyone did.  Did you follow your plan?  How do you feel?  If you missed some workouts, what happened.   Then post the next week's training  and so on and so on.

I know that when I set a plan up, have a schedule, I'm much more likely to follow it.   As a group. we can cheer each other on or perhaps discuss why a week didn't work out so well.

Who's game?

Susie

Hi Susie,I'm keen to post my plan - do you mean this week? I'm happy to begin this week.I hope the cortisone helps with your foot! My hip cortisone shot didn't hurt at all (didn't even know the doc started it!) but I hear feet are a bit ouchie - hope it didn't hurt too much.Your black belt is a great goal to have and I am sure you will be able to get back into it when the time is right. I find I am not really 100% myself when I am not training in taekwondo so I'm keeping my fingers crossed I can get back to it soon.Happy New Year everyone - I just had my first ride for the New Year and am excited about what the rest of the year will bring.Lets make it one to remember

I'd be interested in hearing what your doctor says.... I was taking 50,000 IU per week of Vitamin D. (It was a prescription.) After five months, my blood level was still BELOW the acceptable range.

The pills upset my stomach, so I went back to OTC pills, and take 6,000 IU per day. And I'm STILL below the range. So I figure that something else is going on. But so far, I haven't figured out what. And if my Vit D levels are low, what *else* is low too? Hm....

I agree with you, what else is going on....  My B-12 is now low also...  Lots of minor bone pains, like in my fingers when I make a fist.  Toes been hurting too...

Hi All,
Glad you're on board for the challenge Michelle.  Yep, post this week - it's the new year!

A cortisone shot in the hip - must have been one heck of a big needle.  The foot was a bit "ouchie" especially when he went into the joint.  It was sore yesterday, but is feeling better today.  The big test comes on Sunday.  I have a 10 mile run on the schedule - and it looks like the weather (temps only in the teens)  will necessitate a DREADMILL run.  I'm OK on the treadmill for up to an hour.  Anything longer than that - UG.

Hi Steve.  I had a tone of blood work done in the fall, but I don't know if the vitamin D levels were checked?  I'd be curious about mine since I do take calcium with vitamin D, but obviously not absorbing the calcium, thus the osteoporosis.

Hey Dee, I'm going to be asking you a lot about wheat and diary free diets.  I will be starting on one soon.  Although it makes me very sad to think of what I'm giving up. (I LOVE CHEESE!)   I have a rather limited diet as it is.

I hope to hear from everyone soon!

Susie

Good luck on your run on Sunday - I'll keep my fingers crossed you get outside. I find myself losing the will to live if I have to do anymore than 30 minutes on the dreadmill
Yep that cortisone needle was HUGE - went through the front of my thigh and into the joint but as I said didn't hurt.
The SI joint injections weren't fun - google it (although they all talk about anaesthetic and I didn't get any of that!) and you will see what I mean

Hello!

About wheat and dairy free diet (I am lactose intolerant and gluten allergy) I am struggling with NOT having milk, cheese in the diet.  My energy level is higher when I have consume mainly fruits, veggies, and lean meats.  Lactose does not seem to be an issue with muscle fatiuge as long as I keep the veggie intake up to a good standard.  (about 6 servings a day)  Green leafy, tomatos, and such.  I eat fruit before I work out for enegry and I drink water like its going out of style.

As I learn more about my 'diet' I find it more freeing instead of restricting.  I miss cheese and sneak in goat cheese every once in a while.

Happy New year all!

otter_sh - 2010-01-01 9:38 AM Dr. report...  Vitamin D is still low, even with taking 1600 units....  Need to talk with the Dr about it on Tues.

Since your vitamin D is low.... Have you had a bone density test done?

Hi All,
Glad you're on board for the challenge Michelle.

Cortisone shots... bleh. They offered me one for my shoulder, but so far, I've resisted. Unfortunately, that also means I haven't been swimming lately. *sigh* I asked about seeing a physical therapist, but the doctor said that I'd need a MRI before she'd sign me up for PT, since they need to make sure "PT won't do additional damage." (I'm pretty sure I rolled my eyes at this point.)

Vitamin D... I was really surprised when my levels came back so low. The test was done during the summer when I'm outside a lot, I was eating a ton a dairy, etc. I did some research and found out that some people aren't good at synthesizing vitamin D. (It's a genetic thing.)

Gluten/Wheat/Dairy Free Diets... I love cheese too. I miss it. But I was surprised to find a lot of gluten free foods. My supermarket even has a "gluten free" section. Rice and Corn Chex cereals are gluten free (but they do have a lot of sugar). And there's a ton of info on the internet: do a search on celiac disease, or gluten free foods, etc. Here's one website: http://www.glutenfreeda.com
