Kona_Please - 2010-01-02 6:35 PM Getting great feed back..so far it looks like 15 people have shown interest..I say we do 3 teams of 5 or try and get to 20 and have two teams of 10. were to the spread sheets for challenges get kept on this sight??I think 2 teams of ten would work out good..we can make it happen and work out the kinks for Shoot for the moon 2...Im a math and science guy so i would love to keep all time stats and records and make this a constant challenge...

This could be the beginning of a wonderful relationship....

PM D001, aka master of all that is challenges.  You should get a step by step plan on how to set up the spreadsheet.  I know it's on Google, but that's about it.  AbbieR will know as well.  She does the Peach challenges.

I want in.... Just a thought but, you may want deadlines for min or mile updates.  I know that I am more likely to ensure that I am sending my info to the proper area if I have timelines that I have to meet.

I do not spend a lot of time on the bike but, this may be what I need to help get me more focused.

Ok... As fas as spreadsheets, we usually use google for the challenges.  Seren has already set up a link:

http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0An7ZkKfHG1L1dEdxb2EzUXM4T2RsQklGZzVVSmpkb0E&hl=en

Probably should have interested people drop in a put their name in the spreadsheet.  Then you can decide how compose the teams and how you want to track time, distance, disciplines, etc.

Ooops, one more thing.  You will have to sign in to google to access the spreadsheet.  Here's the username and password:

Hope this helps getting us started!

Here's what Doo1 wrote to me

Take a look at what's in the Google documents. If any is close to what you want, you can COPY it, and use it. (But please don't destroy the original.) Conversely, you can create your own spreadsheet, using EXCEL, and then upload it to Google.

So what I have done is added everyone's name to the spread sheet with run- bike-swim under each name.  Then there are colums for each month in 2010 with our goal of 238857 minutes at the end.   Theres 19 people.  If we could snag one more we could have 4 teams of 5 people.

OK, here are my thoughts, based upon what I've read in your thread so far.... Feel free to ignore any of this, btw.

With 15 people: I suggest having 2 teams. Some people may join, but others may drop out. (It's been my experience that having only 5 people on a team means trouble for the team if someone disappears! But having 10 on the team means the impact is a lot less if someone drops out.)

It looks like you're either going to log distance or time.
If you go with distance: have a column where everyone can log their distance to-date. Then in the next column, divide that amount by 238857 miles. Format the field as %, and you'll get a percentage that they've traveled to the moon.

If you go with time, do the same thing, dividing by 3981 hours, to get the percentage.

However, keep in mind that not everyone will be logging miles or hours. Some people may use kilometers or minutes. So you'll have to decide how to handle this.

I'll be on the road traveling this afternoon, but I'll probably get online late tonight. Let me know if you have any questions. And yes, I can help with a spreadsheet, if you need it....

Spreadsheet update:

OK, I took a look at your spreadsheet. I added some columns to the end:

Total minutes - shows the total minutes to date that you've achieved in each discipline (run, bike, swim).

% of goal (238857 minutes) - shows the % that you've completed to date in each discipline.

Total progress - sums up your running, swimming and biking, and gives you the total % towards the moon that you've accomplished to date.

This way, you can track your % to the moon per discipline, or all together.

Feel free to use the modifications that I added, or delete them as you see fit.

Looks like we are ready to go.  Lets pick teams or should we just divide the list in 1/2?  The spreadsheet can be found at google documents

I logged my run minutes in today but those of you that have the percentages filled in - do you have to figure it out on your own or did D001 put a formula in there to self calculate?

It should do it on its own. I just entered my minutes, saved and closed.
