I would think 100 ounce bladder and two bottles would easily get you through the night. That would allow for roughly 20-24 ounces/hour. What about storage for the food too? You using something like the gas tank bag from epic designs? I wanted to keep the weight off my back but I might bring a small camelback and pack it away until evening. My bike has up to 3 bottle mounts so I might just put the pump in the bag and run 3 bottles with the smaller camelback (70oz) I have a handlebar bag for the majority of my food and then the bento box for my quick access - will just refill this as necessary. I will have my rear rack and can throw a pannier on but I want to go light this year. This is the bag I bought yesterday: http://www.jandd.com/detail.asp?PRODUCT_ID=FDRP Ok, have you consider platypus bladder bottles then. Since you have that sack, these would take less space, especially when empty, and lighter: http://cascadedesigns.com/platypus/handheld-hydration/platy-bottle/product |

It was sort of quiet without you in here! Thanks Bill...as you know from the ghoulies thread its been a rough 2 weeks...but to update everyone else to my absence: Ive had to complete a clinical elective...I chose internal medicine--nephrology. It is a fantastic speciality in my opinion; however, I had to deal with some pretty rough stuff early on in my medical career like being apart of the team telling a patient that they have cancer and that the prognosis was pretty poor. Its a reality that you know exists, but its different actually doing it/being in that situation. So I've probably spent 20-25hrs doing that. Then Ive had some committee stuff for monetary allocation to recreation on campus...so another 9hrs of meetings and deliberations... ya...I have an indoor tri this sat...hopefully my past 3-4months of training pays off and the past 2 weeks have minimal effects! |

I know what I want to do for a living - just wish you could make money riding a bike at 43 I told the guy at my LBS that when I retire I am working for him so he needs to get me an opening in about 30 years or so I think I can one up you on the job. I think I'll just spend my time touring the US on my bike! Maybe something like trail maintenance.... |

Well wife's work schedule changed for the day, so I'll have to adapt. So, it looks like I'm only going to be able to swim. Eventhough I really wanted to ride again today, my legs are a little tired. Looking at the spreadsheet, I'm one bike ride and two swims from 100 percent! It's all gravy from there! Gravy? Maybe Bill can add that to his bike fueling regiment! The best part was when the guy I was riding with came out and saw me with pizza and chicken fingers and he was like you are going to ralph that out in about 1 hour - kept it down the whole ride. Even polished a mini-pizza off at my last stop - yummy! I know it goes against conventional wisdom but I don't think endurance products fit the bill for 28+ hours straight on a bike. The body needs solids at some point! At least mine does Check out Dean Karnazes book Ultramarathon Man. He shows a list of what he ate on one of his 200 mile runs. Mostly high calorie junk food. Its the only way he can consume calories faster then his body burns it off on the long runs. His long run is now 350+ miles. |

Another Dean Karnazes reference. In Ultramarathon Man, he tells of how he found a pizza place that will delivery on the road. He tells them where he will be in 30 minutes and they bring it to him. |

I got a new JetBoil and bike shorts for $5 dollars after my dividend and 20 percent off coupon! Man, I could spend hours and a lot of money in that store. Not me. Its too depressing to see all the things I want that I don't have the money for. |

Plus, I love running during that time of day when you can literally see day breaking!I prefer running when its dark and peaceful. It is nice to watch the sun come up occasionally though. |

Elite 3460 Slackerville, USA | Subject: RE: TWISTER #2 pdbman - 2010-03-24 2:25 PM I may be doing some late night training again. They made some program changes to the existing program that didn't include the changes that I just made so I had to go back and redo my changes. Now I get to test it again. uuuuuh, what? You lost me on that one, Paul!! I made some changes to a program and had tested it but it was waiting for someone to change another program before we could move it into production for everyone to use (both programs work together). Well, the powers that be decided they wanted another change to the program I had worked on and didn't want to wait for my changes to go to production first. So they took the program that was currently in production (that didn't have my changes), made the other changes, and are moving it to production before my changes. That means I have to take the program they just made the changes to (that doesn't have my changes) and make my changes again. Does that make more sense? If not, then think of it this way: Someone screwed things up so I had to go back and redo work that I already did once before. I was able to finish it up last night but it threw off my whole evening. But that's for another post. |

I was looking at adding these to the aresenal: http://www.geomangear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=4_41&products_id=138%3Cp%3ENothing I have a blackburn set but one of the clamps stripped out and I need to return that. I have 2 other smaller blackburns that will work as back up but I am thinking of getting 1 of the above just in case! Will the battery life of 3 hours be enough? Are you going to mount on your helmet or the bars? |

And I think its a sad situation (that doctors will get paid less than programmers). Doctors deserve every penny they get. You couldn't pay me to be a doctor. I don't think most people would be willing to put in the time and take on the responsibility that doctors do. |

I think the 3 hours will work as a backup plan with my Blackburn that should get me through the night. I have a headlamp on the helmet that I can just change batteries so that will work for cue sheet, mileage, and street signs (hopefully!) So that answers my next question. You are going old school with cue sheets instead of GPS. |

Elite 3460 Slackerville, USA | Subject: RE: TWISTER #2 Got my swim in today. Why does the swim always feel so crappy after running? I always feel heavy when I workout in this order. Ironically, despite this feeling, I had one of my best paces during a ten minute and five minute swim (1:35/100). I'm pretty happy with these times. Hopefully, I can transfer my pool work and times to the open water. x2 on that. I did a swim after a run Tuesday and was wondering if I was going to make it. I did finish my workout in the time I wanted, but it was a lot of work and my form was horrible. I was half expecting the lifeguard to jump in or ask if I was OK. This was my first swim after a run workout and I wasn't expecting it to be so hard. |
