Pro 6191 | Subject: RE: Austin 70.3 : Official Thread Just under 16 weeks to go, and I've officially started on my training plan! I was hoping to be fully recovered from ITBS at this point, but it's at least at a manageable level. Just read a bunch of last year's race reports... I'm getting excited! |

I seem to recall someone saying this race is the same weekend as parents weekend at UT so a lot of hotels are getting filled up. |

That was me, I still need to book my hotel and will probably start looking this weekend. If anyone has any specific hotels they would recommend please let us know. |

Extreme Veteran 479 The Woodlands, TX | Subject: RE: Austin 70.3 : Official Thread How is training coming along? The heat and humidity here is becoming brutal. Nevertheless I am ramping up the volume in August. Nagging injuries all seem to be under control at the moment, so everything is looking good. |

Pro 6191 | Subject: RE: Austin 70.3 : Official Thread I was working from my own 16 week plan, but after that getting derailed due to getting sick TWICE, I'm on BT's 12 week Oly to HIM bridge plan. So far, I'm loving it! Also, I mapped the bike course over at mapmyride.com. If anyone wants to check it out - especially the elevation profile - it's here: http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/44210286/

Pro 4360 Baton Rouge area | Subject: RE: Austin 70.3 : Official Thread Hey all! Thanks for the link, doesn't look too bad. I have an Oly in a couple of weeks and we shall see. It's going to be brutally hot so just looking to finish. Biking and swimming are ahead of the curve for Austin as I have been working on speed. Most rides in the 30-45 mile range and longer rides coming up. Running I am a little behind as my longest run (since April) has been 6 miles. |

People are having concerns about some of the races around here with the lack of rain and low levels. Did some searching and found this article: http://www.kxan.com/dpp/news/drought-could-affect-fisheries-reservoirs Looks like Walter E. Long Lake has a "stable" water level, despite the drought. Couldn't find specifics, but it looks promising. |

Expert 1544 Alexandria, MN | Subject: RE: Austin 70.3 : Official Thread Hello everyone, here's your golden opportunity to convince me how Austin 70.3 is a much better choice than Miami! I'm torn between the two right now, and they're both still open for registration. Logistically Austin is a better choice, I'm just not sold yet on it being a nicer course, better location than Miami. I do know that Miami was a disaster last year, but I'm counting on them fixing the stupid mistakes for this year, because there's no way they could fail like that again. Hopefully I'll look forward to racing with you all down in TX this fall! |

I'm traveling to Austin instead of doing Miami, along with a friend that lives in Tampa... She convinved me that Austin is the way to go for my first 70.3. |

Is that evening out of the question? On paper... sure. But what if something goes wrong? I ended up in the hospital for 10 hours after the Galveston 70.3 a couple of years ago. I drove there but I would have been screwed had it been a race I flew to. Hope for the best but plan for the worst as the old saying goes. |

Expert 1544 Alexandria, MN | Subject: RE: Austin 70.3 : Official Thread I'm tentatively booked at the Courtyard Marriott by the airport. They're the only ones around $100/night with an indoor pool and hot tub. Will the outdoor hot tubs be open at the Austin area hotels in October? Having somewhere to soak after the race is important for me. |

Driving in that Saturday morning. 10 mile run yesterday and 1:45 on the bike trainer on Saturday unfortunately TS Lee killed my 3 hr ride and 1:45 was all I could take on the trainer. I already have a several 45 mile rides working on speed so a few 60+ mile rides and I am set. |

Still can't shake that "I'm not training enough" feeling, but I'm following BT's 12 week Olympic to Half Iron bridge plan almost exactly. A few missed swims, but swimming doesn't scare me |

Extreme Veteran 479 The Woodlands, TX | Subject: RE: Austin 70.3 : Official Thread My standard weekday rides are now 40 - 50 miles with 60 - 80 on the weekend. I am still building up run volume coming off nagging achilles problems. I finally got over the 100 mile hump in August and went over 30 for the first time last week. My focus will be on running this month but still expect to have 700+ miles on the bike and around 50K yds in the pool. The weather has cooled down quite a bit this week, so outdoor training should be nice. |

I'm doing 40k in the pool each month, and have been told I'm doing too much. I guess I won't be pacing off of you at the race! |

I really need to get some form feedback to help. My mileage is high because I am also building up a base for IMTX next year. I have a lot of free time right now and want to make good use of it. |

Expert 1544 Alexandria, MN | Subject: RE: Austin 70.3 : Official Thread Hey all, I just realized today that Barton Springs Pool is in Austin. I saw a documentary on that a couple years ago and remember it being a really cool looking place. Would anyone be interested in a quick swim there on Saturday? Nothing too hard or resembling a workout, I just thought it might be nice to hit that while I'm in town. |

Pro 4360 Baton Rouge area | Subject: RE: Austin 70.3 : Official Thread Hey all! Question for all of you who have done Austin, what cassette gearing? I heard the hills were rolling but talking to someone from Baton Rouge who did it a few years ago he recommended either a compact crank or at least a 12/27 for the hills. Currently running a 12/23 but train on fairly flat (but hot) roads. Hoping to head to hill country next weekend for a some hill work. |
