I'm signed up for Oceanside and Honu, but those are both pretty far out from Louisville.  Maybe Vineman 70.3?  It's already going to be a packed season with a couple of early marathons, so maybe some rest and focused IM training would be better.  I love racing, but the taper / travel / recovery always seems to set me back a bit.

I did Louisville this year.  Buffalo Springs (Lubbock) and Kansas are 2 HIM's that I considered as both fit in to the training schedule at a good time.  (I didn't end up doing either but one of those would have been it, had I felt the need.)

Good luck to all that are racing this year!  I've opted for Redman 2011 as my 2nd iron-distance.  I'll follow along though; I had a great time at the race and loved the city!

HELOOOO IRONMAN LOUISVILLE GO-GETTERS!!!

I'm in baby!
I see you have all gotten this party started. Fantastic!
This will be my 3rd IM. My first was in Wisconsin and my second was in LOU. I'm fired up to get back to Louisville and give it another go. I really my enjoyed my experience in Louisville in 2009 (yes, the tame weather year), and if you haven't done it before, I think you will too.
I've been doing triathlon and multisport events since 1995 and I've done distances from sprint to Ironman. My last race was somewhere around my 88th.
My best distance is probably the sprint, but I enjoy the heck out of the Ironman 70.3 and I am very drawn to the Ironman, even though it's not my best distance.
I'm looking forward to spending virtual time with you over the course of this year as we rev up for the main event!
I have posted to links below that you might find interesting. The first one is from Triathlon Mind Training. The gentleman who operates this is very cool and his podcasts are rather entertaining. His name is Jay, also known as Ironman Jay and he completed IMLOU this past year. He took the time to make a video of the IMLOU bike course that you might find interesting.
The next link is to my blog which if you check out, I hope you find interesting. It will have more to come.
OH! I also recently purchased the Spinervals DVD featuring the Ironman Louisville course. I haven't checked it out yet, because I can still ride outside, but I'll let you know how it is later.
Anyway, that was my very long hello.

Peace,
~Sam

I'm in!  This will be my first IM.  Have heard the horror stories from the last race, but I am not going to let it discourage me!

I'm going to do the White Lake Half in May 2011 as one tune up before Louisville.

I am surprised the race is not sold out like the other IMs.  When does it close-out in the past years?

I'm speculating, but I believe IMLOU doesn't fill up as fast because people are concerned about the heat and the water quality of the Ohio River. However, it fills up every year.

Cardinal Harbor is, IMO, the perfect warm up for IMKY. I did it last year, and it was long enough out to be well rested for the main event, plus it gives you very valuable info on course/weather/conditions and lets you practice on the main venue.

I would strongly suggest going out and riding the bike course the day after. Yea, you will be tired, but trust me, the double loop portion of the bike leg (about 70 miles) is well worth riding so you know whats in store come race day (pacing, hills, etc)

Hello-
Is everybody fired up?
Man, we are 10 months out, and not a day goes by without me thinking about Ironman Louisville!
I love it!
I'm not doing much training right now as I recover from last season and start the build for next season. I'm lifting weights every other day, icing lingering injuries, stretching, and being patient.
It's an exciting time. I know what's on the horizon and I'm looking at it with anticipation that seeps out daily. The fact that you have posted already makes me think you are all in the same boat.
Have a great Friday.
Peace,
~Sam

Hey Sam - good to see you on this thread!  And congrats on Timberman - I was bummed when it sold out, but it ended up working out for me afterall as I got my CW spot at Lake Stevens.  Enjoy your off season.  I'll be looking forward to your end of year report.  It will be good to compare training / racing notes in the leadup to Louisville!

Tri Sam....Im in the same boat...just resting (putting on weight..lol), enjoying some things (beers, wine, snacks) I didnt during the season and getting back into the weights. Finding it hard to sit still.
Im Volunteering at Clearwater (bike check-in and finishline medals) so anyone doing it, say hi if you see me.
Looking froward to LOU but know its a must to take some time off this winter and recharge before the LONG build to Aug 2011.
Best to all,

1/2 IronMike- Hey, yeah, you missed a cool race at Timberman. You should do it at some point.

The Cube- Looks like you have an action packed season. Fantastic!

Chris- Welcome and congratulations on your entry. Enjoy the journey.

Everyone- If it makes sense for you as far as your schedule and/or geographically, there is going to be a new race in Grand Rapids, MI on June 5, 2011. The Grand Rapids Triathlon. It will feature a sprint/Olympic/Half Iron distances. More information to come, but the swim is in a river (albeit wide and little-to-no current); the ride with varied terrain, and the run I think is mostly flat, with some mild rolling hills.

Get healthy, get strong, be positive.

Peace,
~Sam

My friend and I are doing our first IM at Louisville 2011. I’m extremely excited but also very anxious about what I just signed up for. I’ve got the Philly marathon in a few weeks and then I’ll shift my focus …. Few months of maintenance and then back to training. I’m a total novice as I’ve just started Tri’s and only have a few sprints and 1 Olympic under my belt … Looking forward to tips and advice from the group!

Signup up about 3-4 weeks ago. My first IM and first Tri. I have done endurance Mtn biking for past 1.5 years, swam competively in High school and consistent through college and running 5-6 miles every other day so figured this would be up my alley. I got a great coach who did IMKY last year and several tri's and he was coached by a great coach up at Northwestern Univ.

Been training 10 hrs a week for about 3.5 weeks so far and keep that pace till Feb. Mostly sprint intervals of swim, running and biking for hour long sets throughout the weeks. Loving the training, the focus and the perseverance. Looking at some sprints this winter, and olympic early in the year and Muncie as HIM.

GET LOOSE AND BRING IT !!

I've got Carlsbad in Jan and then Boston in April.  Considering a 50k trail race somewhere along the way, but haven't quite figured out where or when.  Vineman 70.3 sold out on me so there goes that for a good tuneup for Louisville.  I thought it would sell out fast, but less than a week?  Oh well, I guess I should have expected that.
