Congrats and welcome to the party! It'll be great to see you.

I was actually still on the fence about being able to go; as some of you know, I got hit with dengue and recurring typhoid much of the training time (much of the last 18mos but nevermind!) However, for those of us following one of the Iron Fit plans, today would be the half-iron race ... I did a simulated one here and it went just fine! So Melbourne is a go!!! I am so excited!

It's going to be very, very tight in terms of training and then finishing time, but I'm still going in with no expectations but to have as much fun for as long as possible. Either I'll be done, the race will be done, or the time will be done I'm okay with any of those scenarios. I'm just really happy to be able to go and participate with some chance of finishing, and worst comes to worst I'll be a little disappointed and pumped to go for the next time!

Honestly, after this last year and a half, between my own illnesses and taking care of old, sometimes critically ill parents, I am just so very grateful to be up, well, and moving.

you guys need to post your BIB numbers on here - I'm volunteering at the start in frankston and then will head down to try and see some of the bike but will definitely be along the finishing 1-2km plus I have a pass for the finish chute.  I'd like to cheer some BT'ers on!

Hi all,

I'm kind of involved, been off the radar BT and other forums wise the last few months (started a new job and as a responsible type of management position now can't be seen to be fooling around on the net).

I've spoken a bit with the organisers during the sanctioning of this event and it looks like being a really good race for a first off time.  They seem to have thought of everything and I really wish I had taken a spot when I had a chance.  I'll be there on the day as well, however you won't see me much during the bike course (got a role behind the scenes) until towards the finish line and I'll also be there at least until midnight cheering you all home.

Just so you all know, the tollway is only closed in the north bound direction, so it is just the one tunnel you will use both ways.  I won't give too many other secrets away here, but consider that a BT exclusive hint.

Re the disc wheel, if the wind gets up and it is more of a crosswind and if you're a lightweight, you may want to swap it out for a less aero one.  There will be no hiding from any wind on the bike course.

Yay! Thank you for volunteering!

They said bib #s would be up in 2012 (I guess that could mean anything) but I don't see them up yet. Anyone else?

Also as the date gets closer I'll post what kit I'll be wearing. The rest of you do too; I don't hold numbers well in my head!

Plus I would love to have a pre-race BT get-together, lunch or something.

Hey I'm Alvin. I am from Singapore. Anyone of you guys from Singapore as well?

Any tips for this newbie? This will be my 1st IM ever. Is the water really cold? Singapore has a tropical weather so we don't usually train in wetsuits. And I'm not used to cold waters too Sealed

Completed a long brick today. The temp hit 40C by the time I got around to my post-bike run. This place has become 'Africa Hot'! I sure hope we get some warm temps on race day.

How is your training coming along?

Sending you all happy thoughts!  It's the pointy end of your training and everyone I speak to has niggles BUT you will get there.

It's nearly taper time yay!

I am so excited to be a part of this event even as a volunteer.  I shall be at the carbo night and the awards night too.  You are racing alongside some of the best athletes in the world - what an opportunity.

Here's hoping we have a nice calm ocean that morning - not hot just overcast, no wind on the ride and a cooling breeze on the run!

Good luck guys - train hard this week!

I think I finally have my training dialed in.  i've been nursing achilles tendinitis this year and last weekend I cut my bike ride short since I was feeling a bit under the weather.  I took the whole week off from training.  Resumed training yesterday.  Felt very strong for most of my 120 mile ride yesterday (faded at the end) and ran 21 miles today (slow, but I did it).  Will swim 4500-5000 tomorrow.  If I can do something similar next weekend, I'll be set.

I've had to manage my running also.  A degenerative achilles tendon isn't the best thing in the world to have, but since the New Year I've got it stronger. While it isn't perfect, it hasn't stopped my getting the long runs done, just the number of runs as I've not run on consecutive days.  Did my longest run ever on the weekend of 31.5k and felt (for me) pretty strong at the end.  Followed up with another 5:30 ride and short run off the bike.

But, I've got through it, and my peak period has finished!  I'm now on a 3 week taper..... yay!

It's starting to get real now though, and as a first-timer, this is when I'm going to start to panic more and more.......!

See you all soon!

Glad to hear your runs are coming along. My run is heading in the opposite direction. Pulled my hamstring last week, so PT and no running for a week (a least). Not great timing so close to the race! I guess I will just have to load up on the biking.

Cheers.

*in full blown panic mode now*

1. Have they really not posted bib numbers yet?

2. In purchasing a shuttle ticket St. Kilda - Frankston for Saturday, they do realize that about a thousand and a half athletes will be wanting to do the exact same thing at the exact same time AND bring their bikes along? How is everyone else planning to get their bike to Frankie for bike check-in?

3. Most importantly--WHEN AND WHERE shall the BT get-together be? Somebody, suggest something! (Yes, Melbournites, that would be you).

Where did you buy the Saturday Morning shuttle ticket to go from St. Kilda to Frankston with your bike? Been searching for the link, but can not find it (?!).

Thanks.

It's almost here - for those of you overseas - today's weather has been a joy to behold.  Sunny, no wind really - ocean is flat and blue.  I've got everything crossed that this time in 13 days the weather will be this kind.  It's a bit warm in the sun so plenty of hydratin required.

Saw the finish line at the weekend - I'm not even racing (just volunteering) but I'm soooo excited!

Good luck and have fun!

Here it is: link to buy tickets for both Saturday St Kilda to Frankston and back with your bike, and race morning St. Kilda to Frankston as well. It says Race Day Bus Tickets but it does mean both Saturday and race days.

Bib numbers are up!!  Getting really real now....!

1135 for me.

Keen for a catch up at some point before, and after, the race!  Open to ideas where though.  Maybe the easiest place would be rego area one day?  I've got Wed, Thur & Fri off work to panic and get myself all sorted so pretty flexible on when and where.  Think I've got a massage booked for Thursday morning.

Hope race day has the same weather as we've had this weekend!

Enjoy your taper, folks!!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Okay, just getting a bit of panic out!!!

1427 for me.

If everyone's already in town by Thursday, Thursday afternoon or evening seems like a good idea, or Friday afternoon lunch. Where's everyone staying, St. Kilda mostly? Where is Rego?

Have you guys checked out the PRO LINEUP for this race? It looks like KONA and I'm not kidding. Absolutely amazing. I am a total triathlon pro groupie (um, ho) so expect a lot of drool from me in this area. My boys Lukie (McK) and Freddie (Croneborg) are racing and Luke has an excellent shot at the podium. (Freddie's more of a 70.3 specialist) For the girls, Michelle Mitchell (yup, just about same first and last name) and though she's a newer pro, she's quite a wild card and a hell of a runner so I think she's got a fair shot at podium as well. She's won two of the Challenge races and come in 2nd at an IM.

Luke McKenzie

Freddie Croneborg

Mich-Mich, M&M (uh ... she's the one on the right)

Bib 993.

Staying at the Novotel starting Friday night. BTW, rooms just opened up at the Novotel ($150/night). I am up for an early Thursday dinner or Friday lunch in St. Kilda.

Weather seems to be getting a little cooler. Cheers.

Hey

Am really excited for the race! Bib no is 145

I am touching down on Melb airport on the morning of 23rd March and renting a car to the motel at St Kilda. Any advices on driving? Is it relatively easy to drive from the motel to Frankston (considering road closures)?
