It is so weird here at work right now.  The branch itself is closed, however we are here manning the phones for the Library Help Line because 1/2 the branches are still open till 8pm.  Kind of spooky here at night with only 3 of us in the building.

iowagander - 2011-11-02 4:46 PM Hey Ghouli-os! I hope everyone's having a good Wednesday. No running today, but I'm planning on going tomorrow. Now I just need to figure out what I'm doing for dinner tonight... Suggestions?

Food!

For dinner we had chicken in a campbell's cream of mushroom soup sauce, over some bowtie pasta. Gourmet, huh?

I hope Kim is warm, Kendra is no longer spooked, Ann is...well where IS Ann? I hope Ann is cuddling up with her kiddos with the pooches at her feet. I hope Melissa is feeling as strong as a superhero (all docs on call should, IMO), Neal is thinking warm thoughts, and Tom has a full belly and a running partner ASAP.

My said he wouldn't call me tonight since I wasn't feel so hot. I took some Dramamine at 6ish and was feeling pretty dooooopy. I made it till 745 and then we were having dinner break because there was a lull. Lots of parents bringing kids in with rashes....to emerg....and then a lot of parents bringing there teenagers in because they wernt wearing a helmet while biking, skateboardiNg and had concussions. Wooooop. Haha. Wear helmets kids!!!

Wow, Kim, I hope you get some power and heat soon.  That is crazy, 5 days.  I did not realize the power outages were that bad from the storm.

Afternoon Ghoulies.

long day and today is my "Friday". Though I do have a bit of work to catch up on.

Ann, DC was great. With the exception of not getting to see any Ghoulies. I did meet up with another BTer and Marla, former Ghoulie mentee. She and her family are great! My other buddy was a mentee with me when I first started here. He rocked the marathon at 3.30. Not bad for a boy from Fla who was freezing to death.

Jim and I had an interesting experience. at about mile 4.5 or 5 we came upon a man who had his little daughter on his shoulders and his little boy running behind crying that he couldn't finish (they were about 5 and 6 yrs each). Jim let the little feller ride on his shoulders and I carried all of their coats. This lasted until about a half a mile from the end. Turns out the kids were with mom and she went to the bathroom. The race started and the kids got caught in the surge and were frightened and wanted to stay with Dad. Dad didn't have a cell phone and knew mom would head to the end so the kids went with him. With the option of stopping at any time. They wanted to finish (until mile 4.5 or so ). Turns out the little guy ran until we picked him up. He was really just crying cuz sis got carried and he didn't. We called mom at the end and all was fine. Turns out Dad is chief architecht at the library of Congress. Next day he gave us a tour behind the scenes, with kids in tow with sporting their 10 K medals. It is a VERY cool place that was far down my list of places to visit.

With the exception of the start being bone-azz cold (for a southerner and certified weather wuss), it was a fantastic day to race. Nice Marine eye-candy, too! The DH already wants to do it again next year, making noises about training for the full marathon. How cool is that?

We are thinking about doing the half mary in the spring.  Might do the 10K again in the fall is the kids are still in D.C.  It makes a nice excuse to make a visit to them.

We are being a bit realistic. With all we have to do around here and all the other things we like to do, putting that much time into training is probably not in the cards. A half, maybe. It would have to be in the winter/ fall and I am thinking I like those southern, tropical races better.

Running with the cherry blossoms would be beautiful though.

Hiya ghoulies!  3 days into November and I haven't checked in yet.  Yipes!

Kendra and Robin it sound like you both had an interesting 10k Sunday morning.  My race was pretty uneventful.  I thought it was a beautiful day for a run though.  Got hit with a cold yesterday.  I'm blaming the post-marathon weakened immune system.  Should be recovered for the weekend though.  Going to get out and enjoy the last 60 degree weather we'll probably see this year.

Good morning Ghoulies!

Robin, I'm sure you and your husband made those kids days, at a minimum. The LoC is cool. My sister has a friend who works there, and they had a behind the scenes tour, they really enjoyed it.

If you guys come up to DC next year come hell or high water I will be there. If you want to head a little farther north, there is a half marathon in Gettysburg that same weekend.

Morning Ann.

The kids were indeed proud of their medals the next day. Dad said the little worms weren't worn out at all. Youth!

Spring and summer are both such a hard times for us to get away from here with the cottages and my mom and all. We definitley like coming up there though. We have to look at what is around there and come up with something.

You still thinking of the B2B? There are other cool races in Wilmington, too.
