Champion 19812 MA | Subject: RE: March bike challenge- Big East (North East) team I'll put in for 12 hours. If the weather is good, I'll blow out the number but if it stinks like last March, I'll be on the trainer 3x a week doing my funky workouts! Ah if this was the April challenge...we are going to Greece on a island hopping bike trip...miles everyday...lots of butt time in the saddle.....slight off topic thought here.

Pro 3903 Andover | Subject: RE: March bike challenge- Big East (North East) team Lynne, I’m still not 100% sure how converting my timed training plan to miles is going to work out but I spent some time this morning trying to figure it out and I think I really underestimated my mileage for the month. So, could you please change my commitment from 150 miles to 275? (As I said in my post above, if I’m wrong I'll be doing one he11 of a ride on March 31st! ) Thanks, Rob |

Champion 19812 MA | Subject: RE: March bike challenge- Big East (North East) team This is my dream vacation. We celebrated out 20th anniversary this year and this is our trip. Now keep the Delta pilots from striking we'll be all set. It is less expensive than I thought it would be....we booked it directly with a company in Germany that specializes in bike trip to Greece and Turkey. I'm already planning our next bike trip (atleast in my head)....family trip down the danube with our three daughters. As a kid I did a bike trip around Southern MN with about 20 kids from middle school. It was great...my legs were so muscular afterwards. I have always wanted to ride my bike across the country ...original goal was do to ride after college...didn't do it. Now I have it in my sights sometime. I still need to get my husband on a road bike...so Emily, Kevin and I can ride together. Trainer ride yesterday....EmilyG (my daughter) is riding the trainer tonight while I swim.

Extreme Veteran 466 | Subject: RE: March bike challenge- Big East (North East) team We're getting quite the team together! Not surprisingly considering most of us will be doing most of our time on trainers still for the next month, but many more people have time rather than mile goals. Rob- I increased your goal per your request. I had already done the same to mine because I thought my initial one might be sandbagging a little so we may both end up doing significant rides on Mar 31st. KathyG- so jealous of your vacation but you've really earned it. Please give us a report when you return. Isis54- glad to have you as our official cheerleader and I hope you heal quickly. TypeA Girl Pilot- Welcome to your first challenge. I did my first last month and its a great motivator. I really want to put some miles in outside. I love the Spinervals workouts and I know they are doing great things for my riding but sometimes you just need a nice spin outdoors. Plus I always put up more miles outside than on the trainer. |

Veteran 186 New York City | Subject: RE: March bike challenge- Big East (North East) team Thanks, this is my first challenge as well. All of my miles are outside. My morning and evening workout is a bike to and from work . Hopefully I'll go over 200, but just wanted to play it safe my first time around...how do we win these, is it the most milage, the closest to % of goal?? Thanks for leading the team!! Are the miles tallied out of my training log, or do I need to report them somewhere..sorry for all the questions...first time.. |

Extreme Veteran 466 | Subject: RE: March bike challenge- Big East (North East) team My understanding is that the tallies are based on what gets recorded in each person's training log. The ideal would be for the whole team to get 100% of goal like Team Canada did for the Feb run challenge. Exor- I'm impressed that you are doing all of your miles outside. I probably could do that here in ME since I commute by bike year around but I dress much differently to ride the 1.2 mi to school than to go out for 20+ miles. I'm also lazy about taking care of my bikes and I don't mind so much replacing the chain after the winter on the Kona Smoke commuter but I really prefer to take a little better care of my nicer bikes. I have actually kept lube and even cleaned the chain once this winter on the Smoke though. Did the QR and Trek the same day. QR needs it again but I'll wait til after I ride outside on Sunday. Excuse number 3 besides lack of booties and being lazy about maintenance is the daylight issue. Don't have to worry when riding the trainer. BTW- I don't log my commuting miles. It's a fact of like for me and not a 'workout.' Besides it's only 2.4 to 7.2 miles a day depending on how many trips I make back and forth anyway. It's even kind of lazy in a way- I get the only 'parking space' that's less than 10 ft from the door of the building |

In fact, my 300 mi is my plan for commuting miles (3x a week, 25 mi round trip). I suspended my commuting in November due to the lack of daylight hours and I refuse to ride in the dark. I plan on making Monday my first commute of the year. |

Veteran 186 New York City | Subject: RE: March bike challenge- Big East (North East) team Thanks! My commutes are 8mi each way, I get all geared up and mix up my commutes with some spinning for x number of seconds and take a slightly different route home sometimes to get some hill work in. There is a bike path all the way down the hudson river that I take every AM, so no minimal competition with trafic (even stoplights for the bikepath, the red, green and yellow lights are in the shape of a bycycle) It is a blast...I've got a 20year old Peugot that I use for my sloppy day commutes and cold weather commutes. The weather here has been awful the last couple of days, no commuting too icy...I did, however, just reevaluate my goal, and wanted to challenge myself a little more (and I realized that March has 31 days). Please put me down for 260mi. Thanks! |

If it's not in your training log, it doesn't count so please log your ride time/miles. Also I understand that we are mostly Northerners and that many of our goals are based on higher miles/time as we get closer to the end of the month. So please don't be dissapointed if it seems like we aren't making much progress early on. That being said, mostly because it applies to me, it doesn't hurt to go give inspires to team members. , Texas | Subject: RE: March bike challenge- Big East (North East) team Thanks, Lynne, for tracking the progress. It looks like we are a big group so I'm sure this took some time to put together. I commuted to work today which was the first of this year. It really kicked my butt and I'm back with the problem of going out too hard on the road. Well, at least I gained 1 mph average over my commutes from last year. |

Good to know there are other bike commuter/trainers out there. Also, thanks for the bit of inspiration. Things are looking really good up here this week for riding..50s 60s toward the end of the week. Lets hammer this thing... |
