Anybody else have that problem? See you all there. I will be one of the few without wetsuit or trisuit. Hell I'm not sure if I will even wear anything. Oh yeah, the run is the toughest part IMHO. Big hill at the end of each loop. You are warned. Oh yes, I had that problem with the e-mail too. You're not wearing a wetsuit? Ahh geez, I knew I should have toughed it out. I had to fall for the wetsuit peer pressure! Give in to the peer pressure - I'll be sport'n my new wetsuit. |

Regular 96 | Subject: RE: Cactus Challenge Triathlon - Sprint I spoke with 3Disciplines Racing yesterday and they said that they are moving the transition area to the parking lot this year so that everyone doesn't have to run a 1/4 mile through the stickers after the swim. I have not been to the park (gonna check it out this weekend) so I do not not know how far the parking lot is from the boat ramp, but I think that the transition area is supposed to be alot closer this year. BTW...I got an email today (I'm sure everyone got it too) that said the water temp is 64-65 deg, so it is warming up a little!! |

Veteran 169 San Antonio, TX | Subject: RE: Cactus Challenge Triathlon - Sprint The parking lot basically backs right up to swim area, so you won't have far to travel. And yeah, got my wetsuit in the mail today and cannot get it on... at all. I'm screwed. |

Expert 1103 Plano, TX | Subject: RE: Cactus Challenge Triathlon - Sprint Here's a satellite view of the area. http://maps.google.com/?ll=30.283474,-97.607946&spn=0.004392,0.007231&t=h For Danskin (and probably what Cactus Challenge did last year) the swim started at the dock, but ended on the shore well to the right of the boat slips (pitchfork-looking things). Racers had a long run (it's slightly uphill, too) to the transition area in that large open, square space between Sail Side St. and Blue Bluff Rd. It will be much nicer if they're using the parking lot connected to the boat ramp. |

People do that. Skip the butter flavor though please....you'll make us hungry! |

People do that. Skip the butter flavor though please....you'll make us hungry! Ive heard of people doing it, but it kind of seems gross. Plus this suit is a rental, can I still do that with a rental? Does bodyglide help at all? I can't get past my hips, but I don't know if that has to do with me being new to wetsuits or to the wetsuit being made for men. They had to give me a men's wetsuit as they apparently don't have wetsuits for women who weigh over 155 (I'm at 161, wanted to be in the 150s by race time). So they gave me one for men who weigh up to 175, but of course men don't have the hips that women have. Plus a man at that weight would be taller than me and fitter, therefore smaller all around I'm guessing. If only I wasn't such a fattyboombalatty! Doh! |

Elite 2796 Texas | Subject: RE: Cactus Challenge Triathlon - Sprint Bodyglide wouldn't help more than Pam for donning the suit, but I think it's better for friction spots where rubbing occurs. You're probably right about the cut of the suit. Girly curves aren't taken into account when they cut men's suits. There was ONE girl who didn't have a wetsuit for the Swim at Texas State. The water was below 60 degrees. I went up to her before the start and told her she had exclusive bragging rights over everyone else there, and that she was a total bada$$. She did great. |

Veteran 169 San Antonio, TX | Subject: RE: Cactus Challenge Triathlon - Sprint Well I tried once again to get it on last night after watching a how to video on the wetsuit rental website, and I got it! Granted I didn't get it on perfectly, the crotch was low, but at least I was able to fully put it on and zip it up. I guess it wasn't too small, I'm just inexperienced. But yes, I think the fact that it is made for men makes things harder. At least I won't freeze now! But really, what do the other Athenas out there do about the whole wetsuit thing? I guess they all wear men's suits? Oh well, looking forward to next sunday! |

Extreme Veteran 328 Texas | Subject: RE: Cactus Challenge Triathlon - Sprint I heard Pam spray isn't good for wetsuits but if it's a rental it probably doesn't matter. Body glide will help so the wetsuit doesn't stick to you, also put plastic grocery bags on your feet before you put on the wetsuit. Not sure what the video shows but for me it helps to pull the wetsuit up to my knees then work it up from there. I have long legs so I have to pull the bottoms up to mid calf to make sure it's long enough in the body. Keep practicing until it's easy! |

Regular 76 Round Rock, TX | Subject: RE: Cactus Challenge Triathlon - Sprint Hey - I got the e-mail from 3d this weekend, as I'm sure everyone did. Are they for real with leaving the bikes out there overnight?? I think the Danskin did that last year too. Anybody have any thoughts on all that?? I'm kind of a take-all-my-stuff-the-morning-of kinda guy. |

Elite 3088 Austin, TX | Subject: RE: Cactus Challenge Triathlon - Sprint CapTex does the same thing except it's actually required to check in your bike the day before. They have someone out there all night keeping an eye on the bikes. They're on the hook since they've stated explicitly they're providing security. If you're bike disappears, they'll be buying you a new one. |

Veteran 169 San Antonio, TX | Subject: RE: Cactus Challenge Triathlon - Sprint Ahh, yes, plastic bags over the feet! We learned to do that in nursing school when putting stockings on people, don't know why I never thought about that with the wetsuit! I'm not too worried about leaving my bike there, and this is coming from somebody that has horrible luck with bikes getting stolen. I was reading through all the rules about drafting and I don't know how I'll ever remember them all when I'm actually out there. They seem hard to enforce too when you have alot of athletes out there on the course. Anybody who has done tris before know if it is easy to get penalties? I'm afraid that I'll get them just because I'm not paying attention or something. |

Master 1292 Houston | Subject: RE: Cactus Challenge Triathlon - Sprint We were asked to rack our bikes the night before for the Galveston event this past weekend. Since this was my first tri, I had no complaints. The place was fenced off and they had someone there all night. It was in the state park, the state park folks keep a close eye on things anyway. We met in the am for pre-race meeting and body markings, then rode our bikes to the T1 area, which was across the rode. This race had split transition points so you had to divide your equipment for each area. They tagged our bags in T1 with our bib number and had all our gear waiting for us at the finish area. It seemed to be less hectic to me, but I only have this experience to go on. |

Elite 2796 Texas | Subject: RE: Cactus Challenge Triathlon - Sprint You guys READY? I'm packing my transition bag in the morning.... you can start counting hours now. I have mixed feeling about the start time. Good: I can sleep in, eat a good meal and head to the site. Less Good: It's going to be warmer. At Cactus I started running just before noon and it was pretty toasty. Don't forget your sunblock! See you guys in a few days. |

Veteran 169 San Antonio, TX | Subject: RE: Cactus Challenge Triathlon - Sprint Ugh, don't remind me that it is so close! I'm really stressing about it now. I feel like in the past couple weeks I have let myself go, but I'll get it done, no matter what ! Almost freaked out today, thinking my triathlon dreams were going to be stopped before I even started. I was running on a treadmill at the gym and my foot got caught on something so I totally went down all the way, being pushed of the mill falling on my knees/stomach. Hurt like a b*tch besides being horribly embarassing. My knee is swollen, but I think it will go down by tomorrow. Just my luck. You are packing your bag so early! I'm not going to pack mine until friday night/saturday morning. Is anybody going to that meeting they have Saturday afternoon? I think I will go, since this is all new to me. |

Master 1292 Houston | Subject: RE: Cactus Challenge Triathlon - Sprint Good luck everyone. I looks like it should only be in the 70's Sat/Sun so hopefully not too warm by the time you all start running. Jeanette |

Elite 3088 Austin, TX | Subject: RE: Cactus Challenge Triathlon - Sprint The overnight low is supposed to be in the mid-50's. Sunday is supposed to sunny with a high of 82! Ouch. The water will be a lot warmer than the Texas Tri, at least. I'm not resting up at all for this race. I've got a 90 minute ride and 60 minute run tonight, a 3000-yd swim tomorrow, and I'll probably do 40-50 miles on the bike on Saturday morning. No Oly PR for me! I'll look for that at CapTex. Still, any race is a good race! |

Expert 1103 Plano, TX | Subject: RE: Cactus Challenge Triathlon - Sprint I packed up the bag last night and cleaned the bike. No more workouts scheduled. Now the waiting begins. So. How are we going to meet up at the event? Bring along a marker and add BT to an arm or leg that doesn't get marked with your number/age? Tape a sign to a lightpost and make an impromptu meeting spot? With 800 people in black wetsuits milling around, it's going to be difficult to pick people out of the crowd. (Hint: I'll be in a ProMotion with green accents, and maybe the orange of my javelin top poking out around the edges.) |

Veteran 169 San Antonio, TX | Subject: RE: Cactus Challenge Triathlon - Sprint I'll be in a bright pink zoot trisuit which peaks out of my wetsuit. I will also be wearing matching shoes, which happened completely by accident. Nike makes the ugliest color combinations when they make shoes. |

Elite 3088 Austin, TX | Subject: RE: Cactus Challenge Triathlon - Sprint Sleeveless ProMotion with red accents for me. I don't think I'll both with the sleeves this week-end. Tri suit will be a black and yellow one piece. I can't wait for my BT gear. I'll clean the bike tomorrow since I'm planning on a 50-mile ride in the morning. |
