Member 79 | Subject: RE: THE SLAYER RULES-open Name. silverback25/simon. Family status. live with my partner julie and her 2 sons aged 12 and 7. Have a son of my own aged 12 who comes to stay every weekend. Story. Never been much of an athlete but started running 5 years ago. Started with 10 k's then moved up the distances. completed 4 marathons (2 london, 1 paris & 1 edinburgh) Then decided after seeing a clip on youtube of ironman to move over to triathlon. completed 5 sprints after the 1st i knew i was hooked. In july i travelled to frankfurt to take part in ironman europe. my iron dream came to an end 60 mile in to the bike ride when i missed one of the cut off's by 5 minute. i was proud that i got through the swim as i'd not been able to swim 12 month earlier, but looking back i was very under prepared for the bike. Enjoyed the whole experience but it hurt like hell standing watching other finish and the day after it felt like i was the only person in germany without a finishers t shirt on. 2012. signed up for ironman uk in july. also doing london marathon again in april. other than that nothing else confirmed. Current training. 30 week plan for imuk starts boxing day. i'm following the fink be iron fit intermediate plan. Weight. always struggled with my weight. I'm probably carrying about 40lb to much at moment so will be making more effort with my diet this time around. What i want from the group. hopefully seeing the training numbers others around me are doing will be motivation to get out of the door. looking back did no where near enough training last year. all of my training was done on my own so founfd it easy to wimp out of sessions. hopefully the group will keep me honest. |

Master 2094 | Subject: RE: THE SLAYER RULES-open This weekend is going to be tough. Holidays are always a scheduling hassle. I continued my theme of daily running and was going to hop on my bike but my wife had other plans. I got a short run in but the bike will have to wait. Pools are closed so thats not an option either. |

New user 4 | Subject: RE: THE SLAYER RULES-open Name: Christie Story: I am 25 years young. Out of High school until little over a year ago I went through a rough patch. Decided to incorporate training for a marathon into my exercise regime to have a positive goal which really helped me! An injury from over training with running lead me to cross train on the bike/swimming. This sparked my interest in Tri's which I completed. Now I am addicted. Current Training: I have a marathon on Jan. 15th, so I am currently putting in about 60 running miles a week. Cross Training: Bike 3 days a week, Swim 3 days a week, Strength Train 2 days a week, and Yoga 3 days a week. I like to throw in a long hike about every other week. Tri History good and bad: My race history consists primarily of running. I have completed 1 great Tri, Lake Powell Oly Tri which I finished 3rd in my AG. I am definitely a newbie!! Tri plans for now and future: 2012 is going to be filled with marathons and my first HIM (JULY). I hope in 2013 I can complete a full IM. Weight or other body issues of importance and what you are doing to deal with it: Because of my prior eating habits, looking at food as fuel instead of the enemy has been a challenge. Finding proper nutrition has been a key challenge for me. I come from a small town where I have yet to find another Triathlete. Looking for this group to be a support system that I do not have in 'real' life. |

Member 79 | Subject: RE: THE SLAYER RULES-open Hi Ashley My race is on the 22nd of july. it's usually the start of august but been brought forward due to the olympics. I tried the competative plan last year but after i missed a few sessions early on felt i was constantly chasing and then got dis-heartened by it. so decided to step back a plan this time round. |

Extreme Veteran 603 Glasgow, UK | Subject: RE: THE SLAYER RULES-open This weekend I'm with my family at my parents and a lot of the time will be spent just enjoying their company. Training wise I managed a Parkrun (free, volunteer run, weekly timed 5k) and hope to do the same tomorrow. Will likely not do anything on the 26th then it's an early run and bike on the 27th before travelling home.
If I don't get to post again have a great Christmas, whatever you're all doing! |

62 | Subject: RE: THE SLAYER RULES-open Hi there guys/girls.JamesA newbie to tri's. Come from a running background and have been training using an Olympic training plan. I have aspirations to eventually complete 2013 IMAZ but this year I think the cap will be HIM.I have yet to compete in a tri but my first sprint is February. then I have two Olympics in April and may then a HiM in September. Not really anything in perticular sparks this change but the idea of competing in something new and different. Hope I can make it last. |

Veteran 222 | Subject: RE: THE SLAYER RULES-open Name: Richard Story: I am a mid pack age grouper, in the 50-54 age category. I took up running in early 2005 (no prior history of running) as a way to keep the weight off. I had lost about 60lbs in the prior 6 months thanks to the South Beach Diet. I started with a 10K clinic with a goal of running the company 10K charity race on July 1st. Ran my 1st race (10K) on May 1st, then another 10K on May 29th and had done another two races before my goal race. As you can tell I became hooked pretty quickly. I am also a certified Marathon coach and have couched 3 1/2 Marathon clinics and one Marathon clinic in the last few years. Up until today, I have completed 100+ running races and 17 tri's of various distances up to 1/2IM.
Family Status: Married for 20 years (but together for 29), no kids. Wife is very supportive, but has asked lately "what is missing in your life that you feel you need to do a full IronMan?" Live in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Current Training: Maintenance mode. Bike 2hours a week (indoor), swim 3 times a week, run 5 times a week, maintaining about 20K max distance on Sundays. Will be starting more bike sessions in the new year. This Years Races: Goal race was Steelhead 70.3, had a great race, however the swim was cancelled. Also completed 1/2 Marathon, 30K (around the bay) and a Marathon where everyone in the group I was coaching completed and met their goals. 2012 Races: My goal for 1012 is complete Florida IM (managed to get a spot) with a goal of finishing in about 15hrs or less. And will likely complete a couple of Olympics and maybe a 1/2IM in the run up to November. Weightloss: As mentioned at the begining lost a lot of weight before starting to run. Still maintain about a 185/190 weight. Would like to be 175ish though and am sure that will come this year. What needs work?: The swim is my weakest leg. Have started to get more comfortable in the last 9 months, but still not very fast. Looking forward to being in the group and having a lot of fun over the year.

Thanks Peter for stepping up and to all of you jumping right in posting bios and weekend plans. As to where we cap, we want a mix of about 15+\- of folks with long course aspirations and those that are gonna be active here for three months. So far so great! Anybody got a head count/list?Ashley posts some good IMCDA shots of us. Peter will soon post me kissing our waiter the night before REV3 SC if I don't treat him right. Kate may get one of me in July in the UK doing something dumb. We had and will all have a blast! This thread has great potential. Thanks for your enthusiasm! I really want to win the most posts award so keep up the momentum and we will hit it harder post Xmas. |

Veteran 346 | Subject: RE: THE SLAYER RULES-open Name: Luka Story: 29y from Croatia. Active on BT site for almost 2 years due to various helpful information on endurance training. Currently preparing for first full Marathon race. Ran 4 Half-Marathons in 2011. I like new beginnings because they contribute to forgeting mistakes from the past. Currently running 100+ k on a monthly basis, working on a swimming technique 3 times per week, and counting cents to buy a decent first time road bike next year as soon as possible (January/February).
Tri history: If you think about mixing swim/bike/run in one race, absolutely none. Tri plans for now and future: to race the first race as soon as possible. I feel I can go a long way with this sport. I am dedicated and motivated person, doing sports from my earliest days helps my mental and physical improvement. Weight or other body issues...: I weight around 170 lbs/ 5.77feet (176cm/77kg). I am very well educated on nutrition issues (I am Diabetic T1). I like eating healthy food, complex carbs and high quality proteins. Long term plans in terms of race and similar obligations makes me keep up with the healthy lifestyle. I feel nutrition makes 70+% of everything you (can) do in endurance sports. Questions I would like to have addressed: I plan to buy a decent bike possible for the start...help! I suck in swimming technique...help. I am preparing for the first Marathon distance, it's in March...help! I will have more shouts for help, don't worry! I am active in sports fields from the earliest days. I like to study various cases and experiences and learn from them. I sometimes read too much and find it wasn't helpful because every individual is unique. There are lots of things I didn't mention, but sure will (privately) if I would be accepted in the group. Cheers! |

Master 2094 | Subject: RE: THE SLAYER RULES-open Luka, Your in. I agree that nutrition is the 4th discipline in long course training. I would put the value at closer to 10% but it is also the easiest to control. Slayer has a little different approach. He eats crap that turns my stomach to look at. He is still very fast but may argue that nutrition is over-rated and focus on volume. I will take the middle of the road and say to do both. (or does that make me the leading edge?) |

(or does that make me the leading edge?) It depends on the nutritional habits you nurtured from the early days I guess. I remember my friend (very talented) used to get very drunk, sleep 3 hours, smoked consistently, came to the important soccer game after that night, and scored 2 goals for the win. He smell like an a...hole, but he could do something like that. I can't. I agree on the middle road thought, of course. Edited by Gladiador 2011-12-24 4:50 PM |
