NICE JOB ON 10!  I got home from a 10 day vacation to a house void of all food.  I just had an Almond Joy from Halloween.  Coconut is a fruit, right?  Need to get to the store and buy some fruit and veggies!

10 in one day!  Wow!  How?  All in one or two smoothies?

10 day vaca?  Wonderful and I'm horribly jealous.

Hi!  Ok so the 10 servings was[MOSTLY] consumed mostly by chewing!!  I had 3 pieces of fruuit throughout the day & two heaping bowls of salad at dinner. Salad had everything in it.  So delish. I called the salad 3 servings (about 3-4 cups).   I had a green smoothie mid-day. It had 5 servings of fruit & vegs but I called it 4 because I didnt end up drinking the entire thing...and I forgot the protien powder in it so it was a tad watery.

My husband and like like a drink now and then.  We're mostly social drinkers. I found a GREAT recipe using my vitamix and whole fruit:  We've been having it several times a week!

Peeled orange, peeled lemon, 5 shots bourbon, 1/4 c sugar, & lots of ice.  Blend and you get a Bourbon Slushie!!!!  (I actually called this a serving yesterday..hehehe) :0

Anyone training?  Hows that going for you all??  What the next race for you all?

Mmm I made similar slushies at a Derby party I had. They were good. I'm standing in the corner of my kitchen eating asparagus waiting for the rice to be done for dinner. If I eat much more I'll have to pretend I made sauted mushrooms for the veggie course!I've been trying to decide what races to sign up for next year. I hate the thought of getting up early already though...

And I'm very thankful my daughter is now potty trained as there is nothing quite like changing post asparagus diapers...

lol on the diaper changing.!!! I remember the post-blueberry diapers and it was horribly disturbing; my church nursery workers were trying to figure out how to tell us that something was seriously wrong with my child.  But an post-asparagus diaper - well, there ain't a diaper genie in the world that can handle that.

Eve (Eva?), I love my drinks but I'm not a big  bourbon person.  But I'll have to try that drink - especially when I need a toddy.

Let's do a bonus challenge this weekend.  Who's up for trying to get to 10 in a day?  How about you choose Friday, Saturday or Sunday and try and hit 10 on the day that works best for you.

Cool, I'd love to give it a go.  I will be trying either Sat or Sun.  My 50K is Sat and I may be heading for lots of fruits (I'm an orange slice ho in races) but if I can't do then, I'll work on it Sunday.  This sounds fun.

I tried a fruit today that I never tried before.  A lady at work brought in a ripe, cut, and sliced persimmon and it was very good.  Almost a cross between a canteloupe (texture) and a plum (sweetness).  I enjoyed.  I didn't count as one of my fruits because I only had one piece but I'm going to go get some of them.

Ev, as for your question, I've got a 50K this weekend.  I'll take a couple of weeks off from formal training after this weekend and then pick back up.  I'm signed up for a marathon in early Feb and if my injuries will allow me, I'll do it - otherwise I'll drop down to the half.  Then a sprint tri in March (which will require a whole lot of bike improvement).  That's my schedule thus far.

Moonrocket:  Im in!  Will get that 10 in on one of those days!

PinkSocks:  30k!  Awesome.

Tuesdsay was a Bad day for me.  Terrible nutrition day.  Overall I think I eat prettty well but its the suger that gets me!  ugh.  So yesterday I had a Java Chip Frappachino from Starbucks.  I dont do much starbucks because its a waste of $ & calories. But gave in and (I swear!) drinking that dang drink threw off my clean-eating for the rest of the day. aLL I wanted was sugar sugar sugar!!! Which explains why I ONLY got in 4 servings of F&Veggs!    Hoping for a better day TODAY.

In prep for a big weekend here's a list by letter!

http://www.co.brown.wi.us/i_brown/d/uw_extension/fruits_and_veggies_three_per_page.pdf

50k is amazing- how did you build up to that?  How long have you been running that far?  I've never run more than a 10k and am trying to decide if I should try for an Oly and or a Half Marathon this year.  I just need to make sure I don't over commit as I work full time and have a toddler at home!  I've just never built up my running well without getting injured.

Here is another link on the serving sizes.  http://nutrition.about.com/od/fruitsandvegetables/f/servingfruit.htm  Wow, 3/4 cup of tomato juice is one serving!  That will make my 10 servings easier.   I love tomato juice.

Don't be impressed with the 50K.  I'm just stupid.  I thought it would be a good idea to do a 50K for turning 50.  In Jan and Feb, I did two marathons so my base was up.  I did an 8 hour run in May and got 50K - actually ended up with almost 36 miles.  And oddly, I thought ultras might be fun.  The ultra crowd is nice, laid-back, and accepting of fast and slow people.  (I'm slow.)  So I signed up for one more and it's this weekend.  It will probably be my last ultra.  And I'm not planning to do any more marathons; they aren't as much fun to me.

I think you are brilliant for waiting and deciding where you would like to put your effort.  It takes up a lot of time.  I stupidly drank the kool-aid and went the marathon route and in hindsight, I just think I was doing it to prove I was a runner.  Decide what you like and then choose one of them.  I've never done an oly (only one sprint tri) but I think that an oly and a HM would be comparable - maybe the OLY a little more training.  Once you pick what you'd like to do, find a good training plan and go for it.  The main thing, I think, is to enjoy it.

Oh happy day!  I found something beautiful tonight.  I got 2 f&V at lunch today and then as I was cleaning out the fridge, found that pizza was my dinner.  Yay, I love pizza but shoot, I wouldn't make my 5 today.  So I went to doctor the pizza with spinach but that's only one serving.  I'll have a glass of wine (of course....goes without saying) but what to do.....  Well, the happy part is that olives are fruit and do you know that only 5 olives is considered a serving?  OLIVES!!!!!  I love olives.  I had a least 2 servings but I'll count as only 1 because it's so cool.  Happy day!

On a different note, while cleaning out the fridge, I threw the mushrooms out.  Love mushrooms but will not chance them 2 days before an ultra with a bathroom only at the 10k marks.  More info than you need to know about me but useful info to anyone before a major race.

p.s. I changed the column width on the ss to display only one page.  Hope it's easier to record - esp later.

5 Olives is a serving??? I usually eat 10 while making a pizza, nevermind when I actually eat the pizza! Today I had a big chef salad at lunch. I had them swap out the ham for some broccoli so I think that's three and for dinner we had corn, carrots and green beans plus sauted mushrooms and spinach. So that's at least 5. My big question is do I count pumpkin pie? Oh, and after reading your post I really want a glass of wine.Good luck on your race! I'm so impressed you're doing 50k! I have been thinking of signing up for a 5k sat :-)

Exactly my point.  I love my olives and can very happily down them.  Ate two more single servings last night as a snack.  Now the serving size came from the jar and it was green olives so I don't know serving size for black olives.  But oh, that's not a hardship either.

Go for the 5k!  I know you are in the mile a day challenge too (Hubby DWDreamun is in there too) and a 5K outing with food etc is more fun then solitary mile(s) at home.  Have fun!

Pam- How was your race?

I was slacking on the veggies til I went into the backyard to play with my daughter and found 9 rouge carrots that were ignoring winter.  Boy were they good!  2 oranges and spinach and asparagus with eggs gets me to 5 prior to dinner.  I think I can get to 10!

I ended up running a 5k yesterday at lunch so I would have more free time today.

WTG on gathering from the land!  And for getting so many servings!  And for the 5K at lunch!  I'm going to try to get my 10 f&v today and so far, I had 4 for b'fast (eggs and spinach with my eggs and a double of tomato juice).  Hubby brought back lots of oranges from South Fl so I'll just really concentrate on it today.

The race is done so that is great.  Around TG, I developed what many were diagnosing as PF.  I did the excercises and rested and was feeling better but I still didn't know if I could make it.  It was a 10K course and I cruised thru the first 2 well, the 3rd pretty well, and the 4th was somewhat ok but was going down at the end.  Hubby came to run with me the last lap and I love him dearly for that.  He was so encouraging!  I pretty much stayed on target for about 1:10 for each loop (with about 5 min for bathroom, food, hydration, etc.) although my last loop was slower because I walked more.  Finished at 6:21 so I'll take it.  Thanks for asking.

I got my 10 - or more!  Let me count.  4 for b'fast.  Lunch was a salad of spinach, tomatoes, carrots, as well as feta and chicken tenders so that was 3 more: total 7.  Then 2 clementines for snacks so 9 thus far.  Dinner was cabbage, cooked carrots, wine, and chicken rollups with celery and onions (maybe not full serving tho).  So 3 more for total of 12.  Then a snack of chips and salsa for a total of 13.  Then I'll add it the celery and onions from dinner to the dried apricots snack.  Can I say 14 for the day?

I'll give you 14 if you give me the recipe for the chicken wraps :-)  I didn't make it to 10.  I got to 8 yesterday and today.  Yesterday I was on track til my husband suggested sushi and I just didn't hit it.  Today we were in the car all day and I did pack 3 clementines, and had stir fry for dinner and a few veggies at lunch, but only got to 8 again.

Below is the recipe for Chicken Rollups as I received

1 1/2 - 2 c cooked chicken

1 can Hungry Jack Biscuits (10-ct)

3-4 tsp chopped celery

3-4 tbsp chopped onion

2 tbsp margarine

dash tabasco

sauce: 1 can cr of chick soup, 1/2 c sour cream, 1/2 c milk

3/4 c sharp cheddar, grated

Saute celery and onion in margarine.  Mix with chicken and tabasco.  Roll biscuits flat, top with spoons of mixture.  Roll like a burrito.  Place seam side down in 13x9x2 dish.  Bake at 400 degree for 15 min or til golden.  Sauce: Mix 3 ingredients til smooth and heat til hot.  Pour over rollups and cover with cheese.  Return to oven til cheese melts and sauce is bubbly.

Must use the tabasco - even if you don't like spice because it changes it.  I'll confess that I don't measure at all.  I use LOTS more celery, lots more chicken, and lots more tabasco.  And while I love with the biscuits, it just takes too long.  I have since been substituting whole wheat burritos for the biscuit and it reduces the time dramatically.

Um. I totally forgot about 10+ this weekend. Looks like you all hit it hard!! Great veggie days! I've had 3 days this week with not making our 5 goal! If I start out my mornings right I will make at least 5. If I start the day with sugar, the day will turn out ugly. Its been ugly lately BUT It's 1:00 now and I've had my 5 searvings already )started the day off healthy & good lunch). So today I'll get at least 10 in!!! I will I will!!! My body needs it!

My hubby is off work thru the end of the year so he's cooking.  He made a killer soup with lot and lots of veggies and also smoked turkey and sausage.  Getting my veggies in will be easy for several days with that big ole pot of soup.

Hi everyone. Sorry I've been off the radar. Lots going on in my family right now. A BIG blow came on Wed when my neice's Dr's found a brain tumor. It just been a whirlwind of disbelief & fear. Testing this week will determine treatment. So scary. Long road ahead. I've been on track this week with veggie count and workouts dispite the bad news about my neice. kids get out for winter break on Thursday. That will be either Great or not-so-great for training.. But Thinking the Frt& veggies will stay on track.
