skipg - 2013-01-29 8:58 AM has the bike course stayed the same since 2009? I don't really remember much of it except it having more hills than I thought.

It's still the same course.

Are you racing it, Troy? I'm there!

I'm not sure yet d00d.  IM Canada is 1 month before so I should be fine to have an easy race with no time goal other than having fun out there.  It's just so hard not to do it when it's in my backyard.

I'll be using a modified version of the Be Iron Fit plan by Don Fink.  I'm going to shorten the long ride just a bit but make it more intense and will add in a longer bike mid week.  I'm debating getting a coach but I've got to get my official sponsor (my wife) to buy off on it first.

Im having a hard time figuring out a plan that fits my work schedule and with the days I keep my daughter. I may just do my own thing/plan for this race. I don't need much time in the pool, should be well under 30 min for the swim with very little pool time counting on a little help from the current. Running has been my weakness so I'm gonna put most of my effort into that this go round.

Not to scare you, but you may want to find some hills to train on. I keep hearing that FL is pancake flat!

Yes we are pretty flat here is Florida. I do have some training places that have “hills” (old land fill converted to a park with a bicycle trail) to train at. Also have been doing stationary bike “hill” workouts. Hopefully that will work….

Yes Augusta does sell out.  It will sell out when it gets closer to the race.

Me and a few friends are planning on doing Augusta 70.3, the first at this distance for all of us. As I type this, I'm nervous. The swim portion, even with the river flow has me on pins and needles. I've completed countless 1/2 marathons, 5 in the last 2 months and I bike 30 - 50 miles regularly, done a few sprint tri's, will do a few more during the season here in FL and add a couple of Olympic or Internationals but oh that swim. :-) Either way, I'm going to do it, made the committment last year this time to do it in 2013 so here goes. All advice appreciated!

You will love it! The swim is crazy fast just like the rest of the course.  Best advice I can offer is have fun since you only get 1 first 70.3.  Oh and if you are from a "flat" area don't let the first 14 miles or so fool you because there are a few rolling hills after that.  Enjoy

Don't know if MY swim will be crazy fast but I will do what I can to make it that way before we get there. Definitely looking to have fun, no expectations except to finish. We are from a flat area but bridges all around so we ride them as much as possible. I've done a few century rides over in the Clermont area just to get some hill rides in.

Thanks for the info, looking forward to the race.

Considering this race for my first HIM also. It's close to me so I could drive over the day of with no problem (~45 minutes) Picking out a training plan is proving interesting since I'm cheap and won't pay for a plan. I will probably just modify the free BT plan some to fit my schedule and other fitness commitments I have.

Anyway, I was looking at the course and did my requisite youtube search and came across a full course overview from kayak and car with tips. It's kind of long but he broke it down to several parts. It's nice that it shows you the "hills" everyone talks about. Here's the link to his page. http://www.youtube.com/user/AugustaHIM

Last year the water was barely cold enough to be wetsuit legal.  I think the air temp started out in the low to mid 60s and humid.  After the race it was low 70 and raining.

I'm considering doing this as a 'fun' race after IMTX in May, but I'm trying to decide how much i'm going to want to train after my ironman (im a first timer). Any experience with this? I want to sign up...but dont want to pay the $300 if i'm not going to do it. I've been training since december...that makes for a LONG season.

From personal experience you may not want to get on your bike for a month or so after a ironman

I'm officially registered now. This will be my late season A race. Doing Eagleman in about 6 weeks. Hoping that Augusta holds up to it's crazy fast reputation.

Just signed up yesterday after NOLA 70.3.  Checked the registrants page and it looked like 1750 or so signed up as of 3/25.  So pulled the trigger to assure entry before it sold out like last year.  Looking forward to improving on some NOLA slowness.  On a side note, what is up with the host hotel already being booked out.  That sucks as I remember a couple years ago having the same problem.  Stayed somewheres offsite and commuted to the swim start.  Wasn't a huge deal but sure would have been nice to be close.  Now to pick a plan and start getting ready.

The Marriott basically sells out 330 days out from the race ... pretty sure that's the number of days out you can book a Marriott! We've had our room booked there since October of 2012 ... pretty common for this race
