Plus they had a presentation on it at our Athletes Meeting this year. Shopping...what's that? Nancy keeps saying something about get me something shiny....Zipps are shiny right?! Would that count? I mean if she doesn't want them...I'll take them. Think that will work... |

Expert 928 Kaneohe, Hawaii | Subject: RE: Marvarnett's Group - Full Thanks Dan and everyone else for all of the information regarding your training and individual issues. This thread is going to be LOADED with all sorts of good stuff! For those that don't know, this was my early Christmas present to myself.
Well, I wiped out on my ride last night. I was on a sweeping downhill for the first time on my TT bike and didn't manage it well. I had to much speed (35mph per my Garmin) at the bottom and my momentum carried me across the oncoming lane and I layed down the bike and crashed into the curb. I ended up jumping off, flipping 180 and taking the brunt of the impact on the back of my right shoulder. The bike came through pretty good. The only real issue is that the rear wheel is out of true. And yes, I still have my carbons on the bike. Hopefully the LBS can remedy that today. Other than the wheel there are only some very minor scratches. It could have been much much worse. As I was careening toward doom I had to quickly assess. There was loose gravel which prevented me from braking well. There was a flat curb that would have certainly smashed my carbon front wheel had I chose to try to climb over it. So, I layed the bike down like a motorcycle, allowed the wheels to hit the curb as I launched myself over the bike and sidewalk as best I could. I'm not sure if I landed on the sidewalk or grass but I do know that I hit pretty hard. Some kids on the street kept asking me if I was okay and a guy from the townhouses also came out to check on me. It must have been a pretty cool crash to watch! Swiming is definitely out for probably a week. Not sure about running yet but that may take a day or two. I think I can still bike as long as I don't have to do anything heroic. Bleh, injuries suck. I just hope I'm back to form for the start of my HIM plan on Jan 7. |

Champion 6962 Atlanta, Ga | Subject: RE: Marvarnett's Group - Full That's awesome to hear that your bike made it!! Art forgot to mention that he got up and finished his ride! That's dedication right there. Seriously, Art., I'm glad to hear that you are ok. And I KNOW you were wearing a helmet. Unfortunanetly, I think that rim is toast. I don't think you can really repair carbon. I'm no expert though. Regardless, you're in one piece and that is great to hear. Don't push yourself today or tomorrow! Let your body tell you if it's ready or not. You've got plenty of time and you base is good so if you have to push back the start of the program, no issues. Just pick it up where you would have been. How is your pedal looking? I'm sure it's kinda mangled. Edited by Marvarnett 2006-12-21 12:09 PM |

Thats good to know, even if I don't know how to lay down a bike like a motorcycle as I never rode motorcycles. Methinks, Art needs to wear leather pants and jacket when he rides his bike now. Are tri bikes hard to steer? I notice, when I ride my road bike on the clip on aerobars, its significantly harder to steer. |

Expert 938 Orange County, California | Subject: RE: Marvarnett's Group - Full Do you have any recommendations for swim goggles? I have 2 pair of Tyr. One is awful, constant leaks, the other is pretty decent, but leaks about every 50 meters or so but usually only a small trickle of water. The bad one basically floods a few seconds after your face is in the water. The good one is more of a swim mask. Or are leaks just part of the program with googles? |

Unfortunately the tire needs to be replaced. There is a spot where I slid the bike sideways and the rubber was worn all the way down to the threads. They recommended that I keep peddling when I drift to evenly wear the tire. har har har. The bike came with really nice tires (Continental Force Grand Prix) and I think they cost about $50 each. I saw online that they are available in yellow. That would look totally awesome with my bike colors! Suprisingly the left side of the bike is fine! The peddle is good. There aren't even any scratches on the skewer lever. Oh, some more good news! My Giro LiveStrong Atmos helmet which was on order came in! I'll probably pick it up next week. EDIT: And yes, I was wearing a helmet. I always wear a helmet. I've seen what can happen without one. Edited by Shaved_Wookie 2006-12-22 12:22 AM |

Awesome goggles. And for anti fog... This is what I do. Hit the drugstore or supermarket and get yourself a little travel/trial size bottle of Johnson&Johnson Baby Shampoo. Open the cap and poke a small hole through the foil. Keep it in your swim gear bag. When you're about to head from the locker room to the pool put a dab of shampoo on each DRY lens. The lenses must be DRY. Smear it around with your finger and then rinse them out when you get in the pool. This stuff works great for about an hour or more. Plus, its anti-tear and can be used on your hair if needed. Its even dirt cheap! |

Regina, Saskatchewan | Subject: RE: Marvarnett's Group - Full Funny how it goes, we almost kill ourselves riding a bike and all we worry about is the scratches. And a new ride to boot ..... now that really worries ya. Good to hear you and the ride are ok I use the baby shampoo too. Just poured a some in a small prescription bottle and just take a little out with my finger. Amazing trick, never have fogged glasses. Always carry it in my gym bag. Take care of that shoulder.

Champion 6962 Atlanta, Ga | Subject: RE: Marvarnett's Group - Full Another vote for the Kaiman's here. I went through 3 different brands and they all leaked. Especially the TYR's. Never had a leaking issue with the Kaimans. People say their Seal Masks are good too, but I prefer the goggles. I'm going to have to try that baby shampoo thing. Thanks for the tip!! Glad to hear that you're wheel was salvagable. Awesome stuff. And being a cop, I think Art already has leather pants!! Edited by Marvarnett 2006-12-22 7:29 AM |

All of my crashes have been of the going too slow and forgot to unclip so I fell in slow motion variety. Nice ride btw. I hoping to get me one when Uncle Sam returns some of my money, though it probably won't be that nice. Another vote for the Kaimans. I had some Ironman ones and some other brand, but I always had trouble with them leaking. Switched to the Kaimans after a visit to the local swim shop. Never had a problem since. |

I tried several different kind that always leaked. Then one day I stole my wife's TYR's. You know what..they fit perfect. No leaking, no fogging up and incredibly comfortable. They are TYR Femme T-72 Ellipse Metallized. Yes, I know they are "femme" but they are the smoke grey color, nothing pink, nor anyother girly colors in there. My wife is not getting them back! |

Champion 6962 Atlanta, Ga | Subject: RE: Marvarnett's Group - Full Triathlon fact #1: It's expensive Going along with fact #1 is an opportunity to make it a bit less expensive. If you go here:http://www.active.com/community/activeathletes/ There are 3 different teams to apply for a sponsorship through. Team Aquaphor Active, Team Snickers Marathon and Team Polar. Team Amino Vital will open up a bit later. Now, some of you are thinking...I'm not good enough to get a sponsorship. Well, YOU'RE Wrong!! Dead wrong. Not only are you capable to be sponsored, but you would make great ambassators for these companies. If you want to be on the cynical side, do it because they give your free uniforms that perform well. Or, if you want a 3rd reason, just do it because I asked you to. You'd be amazed how much putting on a matching uniform and knowing that you're sponsored increases your desire to perform well in a race. I was a member of Aquaphor Active and it was fun. The longest one was the Polar one and it took maybe 15 min. You can use the same answers from Snickers for the Aquaphor one. Now get back to me as to when you filled them out. The deadlines are soon. I don't know that we would be eligable to sign up here in Canada but "what the eh" you never know. Had my first workout after 2 days off, it felt great. I think I am going to take it fairly easy this week, it's been a long time since I've had some rest but we will see. Am off from work and if I get bored just might add some extra stuff in there. I have to clean out my office (short word for junk room). Other than that NO WORK till next Monday. There are few things I should get done but they can wait until 07. Maybe I will start a new thread Top 10 ways to avoid cleaning your office ...... Play time.
