francisjade - 2007-04-09 11:37 PM Elly - 2007-04-09 9:19 PM Will I be out of place as an absolute beginner? francisjade, I also second what Bopper said. You'll definitely not feel out of place as a beginner. Multisport, who runs this race, is a first class organization. Their race is smaller and generally have a very friendly atmostphere and always great food. In fact, since racing with them a few years ago, I haven't gone back to the other series. Good luck at Lakeside, I'll also be there, but at the shorter distance sprint on Sat. I'm glad to hear you like this series, I chose a good one I guess. Can't wait to eat all the great food! Good luck with your sprint! I'm getting excited about it and less anxious!! |

Member 15 Bancroft, Ontario | Subject: RE: 2007 Races - BTer's - who's doing what this year?? Hey it's May now........snow is gone......sand is blown off the northern roads......let's get ready to TRI. I really need to get racing. Sick of the training without the ultimate race fix. I'm doing Muskoka, Carleton Place Olympic distance, Brockville Olympic distance and the new one in Owen Sound. Anyone live near there that can shed some light on the course. Hilly? Waves? etc. |

Extreme Veteran 359 Guelph | Subject: RE: 2007 Races - BTer's - who's doing what this year?? I'm considering the Muskoka course too! Just as a confidence builder before the Peterbourogh 1/2 IM. Anyone have any info on the Muskoka course? ..timmy |

Extreme Veteran 434 Orangeville, Ontario | Subject: RE: 2007 Races - BTer's - who's doing what this year?? Muskoka a confidence builder! It's a qualifier for 3 Ironman races offering 80 spots, a very important race for some of the best in Triathlon! Simon Whitfield, Lisa Bentley, Samantha Mc Glone, Jasper Blake, etc It's my favorite race of the year, very high level of competition, great venue and very challenging. Bike is quite hilly and can ruin your rolling run. Swim is cool but comfortable Come on out, I'm doing Perterbough too ( training race ) then it's off to Steelhead 70.3 in Michigan. Geoff |

I'm gonna check out teh London tri just to get a feel for it by watching.thanks I personally love this race and will be there this year too. Its my hometown course, which may be why I like it so much. You can expect a nice swim (conditions vary depending on the weather/wind) with a mass start (by gender and age group) from a sandy beach. Comming out of the water is a (brutal) run up a grass hill to T1. The bike is hilly and an out and back course (watch out for the speed bumps) The run has a few small inclines with one larger towards the end of the course. No traffic to worry about on the run as its the conservation area on a paved path.. Great police on the bike course and its very well run, staffed and food is super. Quite a few people on here have done this race in the past so they may be able to add more than what Ive written. Generally a very popular race. Edited by Elly 2007-05-11 2:42 PM |

I have convinced myself to finish better than last overall - last in age group is OK though... Aaron |

But it is a pretty hilly bike? Its not that bad Not pancake flat, but not climbing mountains either Just try to work on using your gears to your advantage (spinning up hills) and do a few bike-run bricks before race day and you'll be great! If you are still concerned check out the race website, look at the bike course map, go to Guelph and ride the course. You might even be able to get some elevation info by putting the route into G-maps (or something similar) and then you can compare the hills to ones in your area. |

Veteran 222 | Subject: RE: 2007 Races - BTer's - who's doing what this year?? So far only signed up for and completed Victoria's Du. Was my first Du this season and I found it tough. I had a great time though. Great weather and a great event, well run and supported. Finished way back in the pack, had some challenges in the transition and the bike segment was hillier than I expected. Overall a great experience thought. I am thinking about doing the C3 Brampton Sprint at end of June as my first Tri of the season. Have already done a 1/2 Mara, a 10k and 8k and a 5k runs this year, so am now getting ready for the Tri's. |

Veteran 222 | Subject: RE: 2007 Races - BTer's - who's doing what this year?? Thanks. I wrote up a race report that is in the race report section of the forum. Basically I had some issues with having to put on a long sleeved shirt (it was cooler out) and them with cycling gloves in the first transition. The second I had similar problems with the gloves (getting them off) and then having to undo my running shoes so that I could get into them properly. It's all good experience, so if I can help, that's good. |

Extreme Veteran 434 Orangeville, Ontario | Subject: RE: 2007 Races - BTer's - who's doing what this year?? For anyone interested in getting in some open water workouts the C3 quarry is now open. I swam in it yesterday and the water temp was great. I was so nice to get out of the pool. If you would like information for the available times send me an e-mail. Congratulations to everyone who competed at the Duathlon this weekend, hope to see you in Brampton for the sprint. Geoff c3online.ca |

Veteran 222 | Subject: RE: 2007 Races - BTer's - who's doing what this year?? Oh yeah, definitely agree on that one. A question though: I passed a guy on one of the downhills on the bike and then on the uphill he shouted as he passed "sure way to go pass me on the downhill". Am I being overly sensitive or is there and etiquette thing that I violated here? It sounded like he was little peeved with me, so don't know if, due to the drafting rules, it's an etiquette rule that you don't pass on the downhills? Just a thought. Thanks, |

Extreme Veteran 555 | Subject: RE: 2007 Races - BTer's - who's doing what this year?? Ok, yeah i'm gonna start on the bricks next week, I've never heard of anything about not passing on downhills although i don't have much experience racing, but It sounds to me the guy you passed was just making excuses to make himself feel better, |
