lkeith001 - 2007-05-22 11:17 AM Hi-Is there room for one more? I'm new to the tri thing-I've always ran, did spinning classes ect but this year I decided to challenge myself with a sprint triathalon. I've been training for about 5 wks now and the spring is in Aug. I would LOVE to have someone motivate me and offer inspiration/suggestions. I've been lurking on this site for awhile and love all the info and support.

Welcome, welcome, welcome!

Ask away... anything you got!

About the clipless pedals:  I agree with Aaron!  They are a must.  You expend way too much energy on your upward stroke if your feet aren't attached to the pedals.  The upward stroke is wasted.

Toe clips scare the crap out of me.  I wouldn't stand a chance of getting out of them if I needed to stop really quickly.

Really, the only thing you really need to know about weightloss is be consistent.  I don't think I can stress that enough.  Be consistent in your workouts and what you eat.  No fried stuff, lots of fruits and veggies, and don't smother everything in cheese.

Oh and ABSOLUTELY NO LOW CARB DIETS!  If you are going to do a triathlon, carbs are your friend... you just have to choose between the high quality carbs and the sugar carbs.

Excellent. I am in my second year of tri's. I just completed my first Olympic last weekend. Lot's of weird experiences during that...first OW swim, first time running on a trail, first time riding in the rain....

I need to be faster on the bike and in the run. I will have more time to train starting next week (I teach middle school).

I'm sure we'd all like to hear more about your olympic tri, and how it went!  I know I would Smile

A good way to make it easy to encourage each other in the group with the inspires - and keep tabs on us all is to add us all to your friends list in your control panel. (You might have seen that some have already done this).

So far our group is:

triOK

firstriguy

Medusa_Ann

erhoffma

gator22

willie05

lkeith001

Hmm, any room for one more? I see you guys are over the "suggested" 5.
I think it would be great to have a virtual "team" to inspire and communicate throughout the season...

Of course we have room.  Most of the people in the group are from my Jan group.  So there is plenty of room for you!

Hey Robyn, I enjoyed being in your Jan group, but I figured since there's only supposed to be 5 in a group, I'd leave my spot open for someone new.  Is it ok if I still hang around the thread here?

I was going to take more than 5 anyway!  It keeps the thread lively and fun!  Post away!

I haven't had a break all week. So I'm actually taking today off and then I have a long ride Sunday that I'm dreading...I'm really starting to hate riding the stationary bike inside with no windows when its so nice outside. But I'll survive...maybe I'll brave it on a friend's old mountain bike.

I did a brick workout this morning, and will hopefully do a long run tomorrow and a long ride on Monday unless I end up out of town, in which case, I will try some hiking with the toddler in the backpack. I am going to the roller derby tonight, where I will watch others work out! If only I were younger had undamaged joints and knew how to skate, that would definitely be my sport!!!!

Have a great weekend, everyone!

If this group is still open, I'd like to join.

My name is Kristen and I'm 2 weeks away from my first tri. Getting very excited, but also nervous.

I started training as a way to motivate myself to exercise and also as a stress reliever since I'm in the middle of moving from Rhode Island (where I've lived all my life, and where my family is) to Texas because of a new job for my husband. So, I have my first race scheduled here and I'd like to do two more down there.

I'm married with 2 children and a dog, and I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone in the group. This website has been so great for encouragement and motivation so far; I don't think I would have stuck with the training otherwise.

Hope everyone is having a great Memorial Day weekend!

Just got back from stuffing my face at a BBQ. My first race is two weeks away and I am pretty scared that I am not ready. As long as I survive it will be a victory!

You will all do just great at your first one!  Just keep in mind that if it was easy, then everyone would be doing it!  Just enjoy it!

Yes it is true. I beat up 2 girls in the pool, but they asked for it. Kirk is stretching it a little bit. I won 1st place in the BEGINNER group (3 or less races) for my age.
The true test will be in less than 2 weeks. Thanks for the support.
