I shot off an Email to one of the shop mgrs who also does my fits. Let's see what he can tell me....

Eric J

I've also sent an e-mail off to LBS to see when the roadshow is headed in. I want a test ride too.

Meh, we're not getting one this year. Pleh. I'll try a few of the other shops and see if I can go touch.

That is a sweet bike. I saw it in Triathlete magazine a couple of months ago.

I have actually ridden it. The Specialized Demo van was here in Chicago a few weeks ago and let me tell you. AMAZING! I just sold my 2007 BMC TT02 to get this bike. Its initial release is mid-December and my shop at least took a deposit on the frame and fork. I opted to get the Transition Pro Vs. the S-Works model.

Jhouse,
What did you find amazing about your test ride on this bike?

The ride seemed a lot smoother than what I was used to on my BMC. Could have been because it is all carbon and the BMC is carbon and alum. But I did not feel the road as much as I normally do.

It is a very responsive bike.

The real question is, is it worth the 2700 bucks for the frame and fork? Time will tell.

$2,700... I assume that is the S-works, fact 9? Do you know if the regular fact 7 will be available as a frame set? The Transition Comp, complete bike, cost "only" $2,500 so I assume the frame set would be quite a bit less assuming it will be available.

In peace,

QC

Hmmm... That sounds expesive. It has been reported that the Comp will cost $2,500 and that is a complete bike. I would check with shop you ordere the frame from... Just a thought...

We're not getting the roadshow, or even a demo bike it seems. However, they have an '07 sitting out, and had an '05 handy... so they may yet get one.

I did get an answer but with the holidays and peaking for a race this past weekend I haven't posted the response. I'll cut and paste it later today....

I'm not sure that I'm a big fan of the proprietary brakes. How hard will it be to adjust them? When Felt designed the B2 and DA they opted to make regular dual pivot brakes work with them... but still managed to hide the rear brake behind the BB. I think Specialized should have went this route also.

Personally, I think using the proprietary system might have some advantages. If you limit your frame design by using off the shelf brakes, you may not be optimizing the design. Personally, I only have to adjust my brakes about 1x per year anyway, so thats not even a concern.

How much has everyone paid in the non-refundable deposit for an 08' Transition? When were you told you might see your new bike.

I put my deposit down back in October and was told the bike would come in November as well.  The new word is March and I even debated getting my deposit back and finding a new bike.  However, to me, I realized it's worth the wait because it will be the most comfortable bike and I know I won't regret purchasing it.  It's frustrating waiting for it but I just think Specialized got way in over their heads with orders especially after "Macca" won in Kona.

Based on what?  You haven't riden it.

Actually, yes, they had a demo bike and I that's how I made the decision I wanted to purchase the Transition Pro.

Please excuse me for making a statement I didn't clarify when I meant  "comfortable."  I currently ride a bike with an aluminum frame which sometimes feels as if I'm getting beat up on the road versus how comfortable a carbon bike is and how it absorbs a lot of shock.  When comparing the other bikes, I found it to be more stiff and reponsive on the road and I liked how it handled in stiff spots and with climbs.  However, with that said, Specialized has finally invested significant resources into its line of triathlon bikes.  It's new carbon frameset has to be the most unique and I think aesthetics plays a roll as well in choosing this bike.  So, for me it's worth the wait and my investment into this bike.

Waiting for mine to show up... Should be here in early March!

See, I knew torturing myself on a $600 fixed gear bike for a year would pay off somehow. The low cost rig I've been on for a year gives me justification enough to go a little nuts this time around. 1 gear builds big legs too.
