Hello everybody. I am a true beginner. I can't really swim, yet! I've never ridden a bike more than 20km or so. I have run quite a bit, but not much in the past 3 years due to school commitments.

I'm using a coaching service that provides assessments and training plans for all three disciplines. The testing includes blood lactate tests and video analysis. The training includes the Total Immersion swim course, work in the endless pool, bike training on the Computrainer, and a custom running plan.

I'm interested in hearing about the experiences of other people who took this approach from the begining. I feel like this is a sport that involves a lot of strategy and technique that I wouldn't get from simply training on my own, and I live in an area where there aren't so many triathletes (I drive 100 miles each way to the training center!)

Found mine:

Well not yet, officially, but April 30 is the big day. I've already decided to do at least three after that. The first is a sprint, then I might try an Olympic shortly thereafter.

Anyway I've spent a fortune on bikes, shoes, bike shoes, jerseys, suits, pedals, bike racks, locks, shirts, shorts -- the list is endless.

I never thought I'd say this but the running, biking and, yes, even the swimming, are fun.

I hate to say itbut I think the run is going to be the hardest part for me. I used to run the mile in high school -- that was 14 years ago -- but rarely ran more than that. Now I'm up to about five miles sometimes but when it comes to competitions, even 5Ks, I'm slow and usually dying by the end. So I've decided to run more.

So let's see -- I've spent tons of money and time -- where's the fun part again??? Oh yeah, at the finish line. I just hope I make it.

Tony

Running is by FAR the easiest part for me now.

I'm still waiting for someone to say they joined BT because of my stunning wit and intellect...  not to mention my natual beauty...

I actually joined it to meet hot chicks. I've only met hot guys thus far. Oh well. I'll take what I can get.
