Veteran 151 West Allis | Subject: RE: November "You Choice" Challenge Team 7 Hello Winners (we will be, oh yes, we will be) and welcome to the November Challenge. I'm Jason, 27 year old Hotel Manager/Cash Auditor/Official for a Minor League Hockey team in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Was a 14 year hockey player and soccer player, who played a year of both in college before hurting my back pretty bad. Was pretty inactive for a couple years, but just started getting back into a less round shape earlier this summer. Did my first Triathlon at the end of September, and am hoping to do 3-5 sprints next year as well. Maybe moving up to an oly distance the summer or two after that. I was a member of the victorious Poison Apples team last month, and plan to be on the winning team this month as well, even with my much loftier goals. Goals for November are: 5000 yards swimming. (previous months best was 3000) 40 miles walking/jogging (small step down from last month to focus on the other two events) 60 miles biking (biking was forgotten last month, but won't be this month) I got a jump start on swimming and biking before my shift tonight (I work nights, so 8pm to me is 8am of November 1st) Did 7.3 miles on the bike, and 1000 yards swimming. Not a bad start. I will probably do more biking and walking in the morning even. So, thats me |

Veteran 122 Michigan | Subject: RE: November "You Choice" Challenge Team 7 Hi AussieApple7's! I'm so looking forward to this challenge! Thanks to Dee for organizing it and to Cat for being our fearless leader! I'm Jenna-- a mom to two great kids- son is 7 and daughter is 9, and I'm married to a super-supportive guy- also a middle aged recreational athlete. (Hockey-- but he's waaaay better at--and more obsessed with--his sport than I am with mine!) I came to this late in life with zero athletic background (exercise interfered with my smoking and drinking!) When I cleaned up my act, married, had kids-- I put on a few lbs. Then a few more and.... you get the idea. A few years ago, I started jogging and lifting weights via Body for Life, then trained for a half-mary with Team in Training (daughter is a leukemia survivor). Training for the half-mary (I was about 30 lbs heavier) I got injured and my husband suggested I try triathlon as a way to mix it up and save my old and injured joints. Of course my response was "But I haven't been on a bike in 20 years, and I can't swim!" I think he said something like "Uh... you could take a lesson or something." So I did. I've only done 2 sprint tri's (last year), and I"m slower than molasses, but I really enjoy it. Due to some health and family circumstances, I more or less took the summer off this year, and am easing back into it now. These challenges are really helping, and as a former Apple, I'm happy to see so many of my former teammates on this team! My goals are 30 miles running, 8 hours swimming, and 4 hours core workouts this month. I'd also like to shed about 8 lbs (trying for 16 down by New Year's.) But that's just between you and me. Happy November! |

I'm Jason, 27 year old Hotel Manager/Cash Auditor/Official for a Minor League Hockey team in Milwaukee, Wisconsin...
Which Team Jason? I"m not sure how I missed this the first time around but-- anyway-- does your team ever play the K-Wings? Big hockey family here-- Husband plays over 30 with a bunch of retired K-Wings, coaches son's Mite Team, and we get to alot of KWings and CCHA college games. A friend is the equip mgr for UAF Nanooks, and whenever the Nanooks play MSU UofM, Western, Notre Dame down here, we get to go see them. Fun stuff! You played for 14 years! Wow-- I have a feeling my son is headed down that path. We didn't really push him at all, (really!) but he's been on skates since he could walk. He did learn to skate and learn to play for 2 yrs, then a cross-ice 3-on-3 program. This is his first year in Mites-- I think we've taken a pretty relaxed course compared to so many of the over the top hockey parents I see. Any words of wisdom for this hockey mom? Sorry for the long hijack--- will PM my long hijacks next time! Jenna Edited by TRIFOR40 2007-11-01 8:26 AM |

LOL stinky-me for not paying attention. well here it is the first of the month. hooray. i'm not running until this afternoon, because dh got called in early this morning, he should be home by 3pm though, so then i'll go out. i'm scheduled for a long run today too, am hoping i might be at 10% for at least the running part by the end of the day. that's lofty since my last long run was just a little over 5 miles, and i'll need seven and a half to hit 10% but we'll see how i feel when i get out there. now i gotta go look for some legs!! |
