I've been using the elliptical (to work out and not just to hang clothes!) Hope everyone is doing well. Another busy month ahead... lots of paper work to do... oh yeah, and I have to teach the student too! Keeping focus... Melissa |

Expert 819 In the Shadow of the Big House | Subject: RE: Boston Beginner's Mentor Group - CLOSED Well, back from "vacation" now I'm really tired. Got a couple of decent runs in this weekend, but not the distances I wanted. Also not going to count the time I was in the pool toward the challenge as it certainly wasn't any kind of competitive swimming that I have ever seen. I feel as though I have been put through a ringer from climbing a four story tower and riding down a water slide with my four year old about 100 times. I'll be glad to get back to the gym tomorrow for a "real workout". Sounds like everybody needs a big cheer to get back on the wagon, so here goes, "GO GET 'EM TEAM!!" |

Will focus on that this week! Been keeping my carbs up though - thats one thing I do very well. Happy training. Maree |

Master 1619 Hingham, Ma | Subject: RE: Boston Beginner's Mentor Group - CLOSED Good Morning BBMG. I hope everyone had a good weekend. Congrats to Whiskyride for his half marathon yesterday. I hope everything went well. Can't wait to read the race report. Sorry if I haven't done a lot, if any, inspires lately. Trying to get back in the swing of things this week. I am starting the Paleo diet today, which should be interesting. Also starting my training schedule. A little 4 week base building until my HIM training starts at the end of Feb. I am excited to have a set schedule and some structure to my workouts again. Here's hoping that life doesn't get in the way, too much. I hope everyone has a good and productive week. |

I'm jealous (of the beach, not so much of the goat)! What are everyone's plans for the weekend? Mine - Tennis, Tennis, painting, painting, Tennis - and i'm hoping someone at my house is going to take the xmas tree ornaments off so i can get that sucker out of the house (unfortunately i don't think she checks this forum LOL too funny!!! You know you could approach her in a loving manner when you are playing tennis with her and say something about the xmas tree or maybe she will beat you butt in tennis so you might not want that either!!! The tree still stands... |

Veteran 320 Orange, CT | Subject: RE: Boston Beginner's Mentor Group - CLOSED charlotte hobbs - 2010-01-23 6:03 PM i was thinking i was the only slug .. and other self-loathing thoughts because i did not work out after winning my amazing trophy - ha ha. it is good to see that others seem to battle with motivation. my goal is consistency still. i just got back from short 1.75 mile run and need to run 12 miles tomorrow to keep up with training for half marathon march 7th. i logged my run today in challenge. the percentage did not automatically populate field so i entered manually. i am thinking that because data is in all different formats we will always need to populate percentage field manually. is this correct? .... last week an 84 year old female (colleague of mine) completed the 5K and finished before some of the 20 year olds ... now that is truly inspiring!! It's very inspiring that an 84 yr. old woman can complete a 5k with a decent time. It's a little bit sad that there are 20-somethings out there that can't keep up with her. |

FANTASTIC !!! Great job. 55 degrees sounds like perfect weather to run 12 miles. Do you have a hydration belt? I used one last year when i was training for a half. I loved it. The plan to take 3 swigs every 15 minutes worked out great. I was always looking forward to the next 15 minute mark. The bonus is, every 15 minutes the belt gets a little bit lighter :D Awesome run!! |

Was wondering if anyone else has also noticed that when you go off a healthy diet the effects of the stuff we re-vert back to cause various problems. Sleep and generally run down feeling. |

LOL I dont know I haven't gotten off the bad stuff yet! No I do notice a little but my diet needs to really improve. I get so stressed out what to buy and fix for meals, its hard when you are as busy as we are. I am supported by my husband which really helps it is just hard to break a history of eating unhealthy when thats all you know. |

I am supported by my husband which really helps it is just hard to break a history of eating unhealthy when thats all you know. It's so much easier to eat healthy when the weather gets nicer. I'm just not in the mood for a salad when it's 20 deg out. i agree with you tho Melissa - i love to eat healthy, it's the shopping and cooking part that i don't like. Maybe if we logged our hours for shopping and preparing healthy meals we would feel more like that time was as important to training and being healthy as the actual training is. That started out as being sarcastic, but it just might work

Regular 71 Melbourne | Subject: Beach running Hi Dragonflyer, I saw this article today and thought I should post it as an inspiration for your upcoming beach series- its about my favourite footy team and their training- 90 minute sand dune sessions- I love how the guys who are injured and can't run have to do the same workout except they crawl! Meant to build mental toughness as much as physical fitness. http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/88584/defau... Enjoy! |

Extreme Veteran 310 | Subject: RE: Boston Beginner's Mentor Group - CLOSED Ok - this sounds like whining but, if anyone has any ideas.... I've finally come to grips with the fact that in order to train the way I want to I have to do more than one discipline per day. The thing I hate about doing a workout in the AM and the PM isn't really the workouts, its all the before and after. I feel like all I do all day long is change clothes, shower, and get ready. Half the time I just put my hair in a ponytail because why bother fixing it for a few hours?? Same thing with make up. Why bother? The only solutions I can think of is: 1 - harden up. Who cares if half my life is changing clothes? 2 - Do bricks instead. 3 - Stay sweaty and stinky all day and enjoy having some time to myself Any suggestions? (guys have these kinds of things too easy) |
