patience my dear!

Man, the ride felt great and she handled like a champ.  Still downloading from the garmin so not sure my exact times and splits yet, but i just felt faster!  each lap is 3mi and i took the first one easy to warm up and get used to the bike and shifting.  it is a little different having your arms in close like that.  had to get used to balancing the bike a little differently.  but once I got comfortable I did not want to get out of the aero position!

i just have the stock saddle on it and realized I will be changing it soon to match the adamo i have on my road bike.  i just found a used one and snatched it up.  cuz by the end of the ride (12mi) my toes were going numb.  it is something i experienced on the road bike too and once i switched saddles it went away.  so i would've gone longer if it wasn't for that.

but overall a great first ride.  still would like a little more practice with it on a closed course like today (only one place in town to do it) before I take her out on the highways i normally ride on.  weather is supposed to stay in the 60s all week so i want to get in another ride on Fri.

Just got the garmin uploaded and avg'd 19.43mph!  Very good times for me.  I am usually in the 17.8 to 18.5 range on my road bike for this course.  I am gonna love this bike!

PS - Brought the new bike to work today and gonna take her for her first outdoor ride after work!  And I broke the coveted 210 weight mark today with my low mark of the year of 209.5!!

I cannot even begin to tell you how much the orthotics are helping me!  The only thing I don't like is they are really only fitted for my sneaks.  I need to send an email to the doctor who did them to see about getting a second pair.  I have seen such a big difference in my achilles already.  I am really thinking that the Philly marathon in November is possible!!

I am shocked with how much they have helped already.  Even with the right running sneaks, my ankles hurt me ALL the time!!  If I was sitting at my desk for more than an hour, I would limp once I was up and walking.  That is what made us think I was dealing with PF at first.  For whatever reason, the straussburg sock helps my left foot so I wear it every night.  It makes no sense but it works.  I am not pain free quite yet, but I feel so much better.  I cannot wait until April 1st and I can register for the Philly marathon.  I thought I would never be able to do it.

Tonight...hopefully a trainer ride after the little one goes to bed.

Saturday...have to work til 1ish.  My husband is playing poker tomorrow night.  I have a sitter lined up but my plans to go out fell through.  Not sure what I will do.  Also not sure about training.

Sunday...my husband's family is coming over for brunch.  His brother is a cop and works 3-11 shift so it is hard to get together with them.  Will run either Saturday or Sunday.  The other day will be a rest day.

Sun:  Make up for lack of fitness effort for past two days.  Still blown away with work.

Not so sure how this weekend will end up.  I MUST watch my food.

Good morning everyone and happy Monday!

Topic for this week - stretching.  Do you do it? Why?  Why not?  When?  Before workouts?  After workouts?  Separate from workouts?

I have to stretch.  I cannot just walk outside and go for a run.  It is one of those things I have been doing for years (grew up doing it in sports) and now my body just does not react well if I don't.  Most of my stretching is done before (2min of stretching) and after runs (at least 5min).  It is just a routine I have gotten used to and is part of my workout.  I also stretch before and after bikes and swims but not as much as when running.

I don't stretch much in between workouts, and usually only do so when I am really sore.

Well, I had a good workout weekend and kept my weight in check.  We had a crazy nice day of 75 degrees yesterday but a front came through and now we are supposed to get 1-3in of snow tomorrow.  I am taking today off as I am donating blood but will be back at it tomorrow.

Yes to stetching.  I don't stretch before, but I do have a warm-up routine to activate muscle groups, but it is not stretching.  I will do at minimum 5 minutes of stretching at the end of a bootcamp class, and always advise everyone to do some extra stetching when they get home and then often ignore my own advice.  After my runs/bikes, I usually do 10 - 15 minutes of stretching and spend some time on my foam roller to really stretch out that IT band.

I used to take in a yoga class 1-2 times a week, but haven't lately because there just aren't enough hours in the day and something has to give.

Absolutely yes I stretch.  Have to.  But only before weights and after a 10-15 minute jog.  I normally don't stretch cold muscles.

But after all workouts, I have to stretch, or I can feel everything start to seize up.  I've been suffering lately with the muscle group that goes from my side abs down over the front of my hips and into my upper thighs.  BRUTALLY tight after runs and leg strength days and especially in the morning.  Sometimes I have a hard time standing up straight to walk to the coffee pot!  Unacceptable!

I'm finishing off my cold now.  Finishing up these brutal projects at work.  Back to the business of body transformation.

Weighed in at 266 this morning. 19 year low.  Feel like I dodged a bullet food wise over the weekend.

Thanks chi.  Amazing is right.  Never thought I'd ever be running again.  Lot's of "never thought I'ds" attached to this experience.

I just dropped off some parts for a brand new wheel build yesterday...these wheels will be my "light" wheels for my Triathlon/club ride/brevet rig.  When I get the bike together, I'll post pix!!!

For gearheads:

Mavic CXP33 32 hole rims.  On the lighter side and strong.
DT 14g Spokes
Shimano Dura-Ace 7700 9speed hubset.  Great and strong bearings.  Very light.

I have to post a new avatar picture.  That picture is me at 330 pounds on bike tour last summer.

Kudos!  What you have accomplished so far is so awesome.  Anyone can lose weight, but losing weight the right way, slow and steady while building up your fitness level, is showing yourself and others that this is not some fad diet, but a way of life you have chosen.  You have not lost sight of your ultimate goal, while life has been slamming you with all kinds of reasons to stop, rest, take a break....you ARE bringing it!

Keep at it Patrick!!
