crlarner - 2011-01-26 6:02 PM Congrats Alex. I looked into that one, since it is only six hours away, but chose Tawas HIM instead.

Can I make a suggestion about the dreaded run? (I hate it too.) Something I have found to work for me is warming up with a 10 min. ride on the stationary bike before the run. It gets the muscles warmed up and the heart and mind going. I used to walk the first 5 min. then go into jog (for me its running) Since I switched it has helped. Just something to think about if putting time in on treadmill at the gym...

Excellent idea.

On another note, I hit another milestone today. 1500yds. in the pool! I have never done that much at one time before. It wasn't continous, but quality none-the-less.My masters coach must have been in a foul mood. All but one of our laps was at 15. sec intervals and that was a 2-3 min. break for someone to go pee. (No, not in the pool.) He had us swimming 100,150, and 200 yd sets. Its nice to hear when people you don't know observe and make positive comments about your improvement and how hard your working. Does this happen to any of you?

Happy Training!

Congrats.  I truly believe these milestones are the ones that keep us moving.  At least for me they do.  I will never win a race or even come close, so my individual milestones keeps me going.  The great thing about triathlon is that there are almost endless milestones you can hit.

Mike, Josh - The race is on Sept 11 in Muskoka. It's a 2 hours drive north of Toronto in a beautiful area. Lots of tree, lacs and rolling hills... I've already done the bike portion of it by car and, yes, very "rolling hills"...

Dan - Congrats on the 1,500 yards milestones. Keep it up

Thanks all for your support

Today's workout? More snow shoveling!! I've had it! enough! we've had 50 inches of snow in January alone, so said the weather guy just now. Someone send me (and Josh, since he lives the next town over) some warm sunny thoughts, please?

Good morning everyone.  Happy Thursday.
It looks like those of us in the North East will be digging out again.  So far this is the worst group of storms we have had here in NU.  With the mix of snow, sleet, rain and more snow, it is a mess.  All the snow is wet and heavy, bending and breaking trees, causing some power outages. I am lucky enough that I am able to work from home so I dont have to rush to clear the driveway and go out in this mess and I am by no means in any hurry to do so.

I went out on my mountain bike last night.  Did 4.53 miles (7.29 Km).  My little one (11)  joined me for a while in the enclosed area we live in.  There was a wonderful sunset!  It’s a pity there’s people who walk their dogs without a leash.  Biking is going to be very beneficial for my ankle.  I feel it has better mobility already.

Dan N, Mike, Josh, Curt, Chris, Marcus and everyone who is suffering cold weather and snow, I send you warm and sunny thoughts from Cuernavaca.  You are all doing a great job!  Keep it up!  Laughing

Instead of the usual uniform, students are wearing their pyjamas and slippers today.  They look hilarious!  Tongue out

Have an excellent Thursday!  Laughing

I suppose its bad to say that I am totally jealous of you all and the snow. I just keep getting pictures and notes from friends and family back home. I will say that when I go back and visit I am the first one out to shovel snow. So I do not act like a snow bunny when back home. The skiing/skating should be great these days. The biking and running, not so much. but you guys are getting great cardio and strength training shoveling all the snow. We got whispers here in Georgia last night. No accumulation, but freaked out the locals again.

Anyway I am thinking thoughts of trading weather patterns with you guys, so I am trying!  We actually still have piles of snow around town from the storm back on the 10th, so I will be in the gym on the indoor track tonight. Yea.........

Fortunately for Maine we missed the brunt of this storm! We only had a few inches of powder last night, not even enough to delay school this morning. Good luck to all of you digging out this morning. Be Safe!

Itzia- lad to hear that you are on the mend! Here's to a continued speedy recovery!

I woke up to 13 inches of pure white stuff.  And it came down quickly too.  Only in about 5 hours.  I have switched to the snow blower, but the mounds are getting too high.  They are already saying there's another storm for Tuesday.  Time for some Rocky IV training in the snow.

Unbelieveable.  I still need to do much of the driveway when I get home. Then a trainer ride.

Wow!  Amazing…  My children used to pray for snow in winter until I made them realize that thousands of poor people would die if that happened over here.

Some of the worst storms took place in Ireland and England while I was living there.  But they don’t get that much snow anyway.  I don’t recall seeing something like this.

I know it must be a drag, but you can’t deny it’s very beautiful!!  Smile

Here is a view of my street. Turns out with all the rain, we only got about 6-8 inches of snow.

Anyone here have a RoadID? My wife informed me last night she bought me one for my birthday, and it will be delivered next week. Seems like a good thing to have particularly with the longer runs I'm doing, and the manic biker I'll be  once the snow goes away, and the roads are OK

We got 8 inches. It was enough to mess up Washington DC's traffic for hours.

Now, how much triathlon-credit does one get for shoveling driveways? My arms and back hurt. Driveway is 100 yards long. No snow blower. Hope that helps somehow my triathlete stamina?

Don't worry, Dan! If you use the BT training log, under the "sports" section you can select "Snow Shoveling" as an activity, and it will record your 'work out'. I found this out only because Josh told me about it.

Mike,

I do not have a RoadId, but think they are a great idea.  Especially for those either running or biking on high speed rural roads.

Mike, I don't have one yet, but will be getting one soon. I think it is a great idea for us crazies out training in any and all weather! My Tri club pushes them and we usually do a group order with a discount once a year.

I'm lucky -- have a great wife who loves to shovel.  Since the white stuff showed up after I left, won't have to deal with it!

Absolutely the best $19 buck I spent.  I wear it running and biking.
