There is some great riding out there. If you have a spare day, talk to the guys at Wheat Ridge Cyclery about their "shop to the top ride" Beautiful ride to the top of Mt. Evans (Fun fact, it is the highest paved road in North America).

I use a road bike with clip on aero bars. The wife supports my tri lifestyle but with two kids in college she rightfully stopped all thoughts of a new tri bike. Heck, who am I kidding, I'm not that fast any way my goal is always to finish without injury and this year if I can do it under 14 hrs I'll be happy.

I remember in 2010 some people stating that they were baking under their aero helmet due to no air flow and a very hot day.

I am looking at how hot this summer has started and figured its going to be super hot in KY, so just more air and bike course its more hills than flats so staying in aero in ver short period of time. Like I said i might change my mind

I can say in 2010 it was 96 or 97 out there and people were all over the sides of the road. Home owners were great watering people down and helping them.

I rode a Rudy Projrct helmet last year that you can take out these little plastic pieces and increase airflow into the helmet. I love that helmet.

I did the race in 2010.  It was hot and humid!  I get to train in south Mississippi where it is hotter and humider (like that word?).  I did see people cramping and laying out, but it is what it is.  This year I will ride with carbon wheels and a rear wheel cover and an aero helmut, will also wear my Desoto Forza 4 pockets shorts the entire race.   I figure if I want to hit my time goal, every minute might count, even in transition.

Does anyone find that pulling bike shorts over top of a tri suit (or tri shorts) for the 112 bike is too constricting?  I will test it out soon myself, rather than wait for race day, but wanted to hear any opinions on this.  Thanks!

I find that the thicker or heavier the shorts or padding I wear, the rubbing I experience. I'm normally plenty comfortable in tri-shorts for a long ride with the right saddle.

x2.  I use Sugoi tri shorts for everything I do.  OWS, marathon, 5k/10k, sprint/oly/HIM/IM.  Did I leave anything out?

Learnt in my last Ironman that a thicker pad can create chaffing  in places that you never knew could get chaffed. Oh i found that out when i took my shower right after the race. The most unhappyest shower I ever took . Going with a thin fleece this time round

I used the Desoto tri shorts for an Olympic distance a few weeks ago and the seems rubbed me very bad.  Anyone have any suggestions to a different kind of tri shorts.  I used Zoot shorts for a Branson 70.3 last year and had zero problems but the material didn't last long. (See Through).

Thanks

Why not just wear the bike shorts by themselves?

Why not just wear the bike shorts by themselves?

I used to wear bike shorts as my swimsuit but took much too long in T1 trying to pull a tight shirt over a wet back. I have a tendancy to burn and don't want sunburn over my entire back. I bought a trisuit last year and cut my T1 in half.

Although the trisuit has less padding than bike shorts, I combined the trisuit with chamois butt'r and had no chafing issues during EagleMan last week. I did experience, umm, numbness of the sort unique to the male gender. I am looking into getting a different saddle that will decrease numbness and be gentler on my "sit bones."

I was just wondering if adding bike shorts over my trisuit would provide enough padding so that I am not aching in the seat area after 112 miles. Again, a new seat may help with that too. But if adding the bike shorts means restricted movement (requiring more effort) and tighter hamstrings (mine are tight enough), well, I am already a slow biker and don't need to give myself any reason to go slower.
